Your Favourite All Time Tigers or Magpies Player

I've nominated my favourite but anyone remember Dennis Bendall and Wayne Wigham? They were a strong centre combination for the Tigers in the late 70s....

John Elias, the epitome of integrity and morality, on and off the field.

He can get you a good deal on a bullet proof vest though.

Geoff Foster, one tough SOB, closely followed by John Dorahy, Andrew Leeds and Lord Teddy Goodwin.

Teddy was at the end of his career but as a youngster it was just magical watching him go around in the black and white, still had that aura about him.

Slightly off topic but Lord Ted was fantastic. Still remember the try he scored for st George in a GF when he knocked himself out scoring.....

Wests - Dallas Donnelly, Les Boyd, Ray Brown, Graeme Ogrady, Tommy

Balmain- Junior, Scott Gale, kerry Hensley, Kevin Hardwick, Bruce Maguire, Timmy Brasher, Greg Cox, Neil Pringle

JoeCool ..... surely?

And Dallas of course......... Roy Masters before a Manly game asked Dallas Donnelly how he was going the handle his opponent, "I am going to smash him, run over the top of him, crash tackle him into the goal posts" Terry Lamb when asked the same question " No problem I am giving him to Dallas"

Yep. My era. Great players. It’s a shame Denis’s career was ended early due to an accident. He could have been one of the very best. In the juniors Denis was the year ahead of me and Wayne was the year behind. Both much better than I ever was.

Surely you were as good as them

John Dorahy - man that guy was so evasive! I remember seeing him score a solo try from one end of the field to the other in driving rain at Lidcombe Oval one day, I think it was against Souths. Anyway doesn’t matter who, but he virtually side stepped every single player in the opposition team on his way to scoring - no one could lay a hand on him. As a kid, I thought he was magical! Sure could use a fullback like him in our team right now.

And very unassuming guy. He wasn't called 'Joe Cool' for nothing. Of course, the Silvertails stole him.....

Very much so! Through family connections, I had the fortune of meeting and spending time with most of the Western Suburbs team of that era and I always found Dorahy to be a rather quiet, humble bloke. Some people thought he was aloof, but I reckon he was just shy, especially compared to some of his more gregarious teammates lol.

Robbie "Allah" Farah is mine.
Followed by Benji.

Shout out Wade McKinnon.

Yes, unfortunately, Dennis broke his back in a rope swing accident if I recall. Such a waste at the height of his career. it must have been fun to watch them come through the ranks. A lot of factors come into play when deciding whether or not a player makes it into first grade. I'm sure you're being modest!

Ian 'Chook' Herron. 80% conversion rate. Pretty much the only thing to cheer for in the dark old 96' Sydney Tigers era. Chook kicking for goal. All 2000 people at the ground would go wild when he slotted it over the black dot........id then retreat into a further 12 cans of Tooheys Draught cheering on the way to yet another loss.

According to the Googles it was a diving accident. Damn shame though, plenty of testimonials about how good he was and who knows how great he could have become.

As a kid, Len Killeen, Joe Walsh, Keith Outten and Bob Smithies were my favourites. A bit later, Geoff Starling could have been anything but his career was cut very short by illness.
Loved Pringle, Hemsley, Roach and Pearce and Ellery. For the Wests Tigers, Benji would be my favourite I guess.

As to Dennis Bendall - he was probably the best 'ankle high tackler' I have ever seen. Absolutely scythed them down.
