there's always been whispers that we're interested in him, but it's gone cold the past few months. he'd be perfect off the bench for us, he is a deadset wrecking ball and has a ridiculous amount of pace for a bloke his size.

We're definitely going to need him this year but I won't be totally devastated if we don't have him in 2023 to be honest. He's a B- player in attack and generously a C in defence. That's fine as far as it goes: every team needs serviceable first grade players. But I wouldn't want to be using any sort of significant chunk of the salary cap on him.

We don't have anyone that fits that bill. Only have 4 second rowers in our top 29 players, one is gone the other three are average or unknown. No other candidates from last years NSW Cup side that could get a promotion. And then we have a bunch of 19 year olds who have barely played at any grade in the last couple of years. So yeah we have to sign someone from outside the club, and some with experience or go even harder for the qld boys

Sure he had a handful of games where he did some good things but I can't recall him doing anything much in defence and being a physical minder for the halves.
Plus once Packer and then Kaufusi bounced his head like a squash ball IMO since then he's been badly damaged goods. No thanks.

I have never had reason to doubt Matterson's courage or on-field playing standard. His collision with Packer was normal for the NRL, two big forwards coming together. Matterson did not shirk the contact and took a knock. I wouldn't be the least concerned if we could sign him to boost second row depth.
