Very complex illness...

Some people you wouldn't be able to tell and some appear very effected.

Some medications appear to manage it well and some may find it does not help at all.

How do you find, living with it @upthetigers ?
I can assure you, you're not the only one...
I find it very interesting and can only imagine how it feels to live with it, with the voices and whatnot.

As for how I feel about such people... I would hope people think of them without judgement and some kind of understanding. Society needs education around these things. Mental illness is very much real and can effect everyone.

I hope if people are feeling any types of way reach out to whoever they can, a lot of resources available.
I would like to say I am properly managed now but I am still trying to find the right medication. This process can take years and even if you find a medication to work well there is no guarantee it will work as well in the future. As for how I am living with it, I'm doing the best I can and trying to avoid triggers that make it worse. I have finally come to terms with it. You have to play the cards you're dealt in life. I'm just trying to keep busy so I don't get a chance to let negative thoughts creep in. What doesn't kill you makes you stronger, as they say.

Good to hear man, sounds like you're managing it.

Very complex illness but lots of resources out there and I hope it works out for you. Can happen to anyone.

You sound like you’re going to terms with things and how to manage them. Remember everyday is a new day and is a step forward. You’ll have the good and the bad but you have a lot to offer society by being there every day.

I had some bad mental health issues not long before work from home started and now couldn’t go back. It’s the perfect balance for people who don’t need to be around others all the time.
That's it mate you just have to compare yourself to yesterday and keep moving forward. Hope you are doing alright now.

Thanks everyone for the supportive messages it means alot.

Good on you for talking about it. I sometimes wonder what schizophrenia is like. I've undoubtedly met people with it, although I've never been aware of someone who experiences it. Mental illnesses are tricky as those with them often are often undiagnosed. People sometimes take measures to subconsciously disguise them, which can make things worse.

What types of things do you experience?
I experience delusions and hallucinations. After a while you gain some insight and understand that you are being delusional but the voices can take there toll on you and you always question what's real and what's not. Environmental factors play a role, in certain environments my symptoms can be a lot worse. It's tough being around people because I think I am being negatively judged but in saying that nothing is going to stop me from watching footy at the pub or going to the game.

Hey mate,
I must commend you for posting as people talking about their mental health issues is how we start to remove the stigma associated with them, I believe this is an area society has made massive progress with over the last 20 years. I also think talking about our struggles allows us to better accept these diagnosis ourselves and for me at least has been a path to regaining my life.

I myself have a diagnosis of bipolar disorder which has played a large role in my life, I can not imagine how much of an impact that schizophrenia must have as it would have to be incredibly intrusive in all parts of your life. Thank you so much for your post, it probably reached me at a very opportune time, I hope you are able to best manage this moving forward.

Thanks, instead of using the term schizophrenic I should say a person with schizophrenia
Unrelated but I'm not a fan of definitions, 1 person suffering with schizophrenia may have very different symptoms to the next. Symptoms and management matters a lot more than diagnosis IMO

What medications have you tried? I believe patients are usually prescribed pills first, but they often have more success with the injectables, as they reduce the risk of non-compliance i.e. forgetting or deliberately not taking the meds.

Mate, I'm not your mate. You decided to post a medical issue into a football forum. Please respect us all and seek advice from specialists for your condition. It saddens me to think the Mods allowed such a personal and unrelated to football post to be permitted.. I hope you are managing your condition, but I for one don't need to hear about other people's mental issues. What next, Kidney Stones and ingrown toenails? Seriously, if you need attention join facebook.

This is very shit post.
The sub forum.is general discussion.... Instead of you telling peoe what and what not to post how about YOU control what YOU read here?

A big problem I think can be denial in individuals suffering mental health issues too... The stigma can make it hard to accept that it's a health issue. I am having this problem now with someone very close to me who I am sure is suffering some form of.memtal health issue and won't seek help.... He has changed so much the last few years

Just wondering what triggers you and if even just talking about them.can affect you... I was talki g to a friend who's son suffers MI... We were talking about employment for him but she was saying certain smells and sounds/noises can trigger him

Kudos to you for speaking out and seeking help.... The majority here are good people... We're our own community / many are personal friends... Most here will applaud and support yiu and endeavour to help however possible 👍

I got diagnosed a few years ago and I am interested to know how I am perceived by society. Do you think schizophrenics are just people who have lost touch with reality and always speak to themselves?

For what it's worth, I think it's a copout when people do bad shit and blame it on their mental illness you still know what is right or wrong. I am not looking for sympathy or anything like that. Honestly, I rarely talk to anyone about it because I don't expect them to understand.
I consider a mental health diagnosis to be similar to a physical health diagnosis. I hope you have a strong support network around you. Medicine is making significant advances so in the future it is likely there may be a medicine(s) which better assist you. As a member of the WTs' family, you have my strong support (as well as on a human basis). Best wishes from the Shire!

I should let you know over 20 years ago at our wedding reception after having met members of the then wife's family, I was informed of multiple members of her family having schizophrenia and bi-polar diagnoses. The family hid it away and that is how they dealt with it. I am glad we live in a society where it is openly discussed and accepted.

Generally, this is true.

Depot needles or weekly/ fortnightly / monthly injections are usually the "go to".

Every individual is different though....

I also believe a lot of the times, BOTH the injections AND the tablet medications are used... but again, all comes down to an individuals needs and what is chartered by not only a GP but a psychiatrist or a team of mental health professionals.

You must of not saw the covid thread? 😂

I'd expect to read such an insensitive post from one other certain, so unaware, individual....

Oh wait , they were in this thread, with their ever so superior intelligence comparing schizophrenia to anxiety.

Any how .... Your post is very important.... as it shows that SOME of society still need education around mental health / illness. Although it has had some light on it over recent years, there is a taboo around it and it is looked at in a negative light by some.

You are an insensitive moron.
Once you get a gist of what the topic is about you can choose to ignore it.
Have you stopped to think for a minute that other members of the forum may actually have issues and gained strength from what's been said.
If anything, you should be the one banned by the mods!

I love schizophrenics, well, at least one as my wife developed paranoid schizophrenia well after we met.

Great post and well done for bringing it up. I had a friend growing up who was schizophrenic. He is still alive but I haven't seen him for years. I honestly think schizophrenia ruined his life. This may be a slight exaggeration but it had a massive effect on him.

He had schizophrenic episodes and it was so intense.

My take is try and stay on the medication because the alternative can be really bad.

To me schizophrenia is just an illness. I am asthmatic although it's not an issue now that I'm older. It's just like that to me. Same as depression or anything. It's nothing to be ashamed about.

Lastly good luck. Don't be too harsh on yourself. Try and live as good a life as possible. I'm sure you can do it.
