There are also videos of captured Russian soldiers been ask why did they come to the Ukraine some have been told it's a training exercise and others told Ukraine is under attacked

I hope all violence has ended either way, but its social media?
I just watched a social media upload of a “French Journalist” saying the locals are telling her that their own army is bombing them?
Who’s social media should we accept?

Agree with this. But the yanks had no sanctions applied to them or mention of criminality. I guess if someone did the US would've declared war.

But considering this why is the west escalating with previously hitherto never applied sanctions . It's not proportionate and seems extreme against another superpower where things could go pear shape.

Russia is unlikely to back down unless they win a negotiated peace. Why go so extreme and risk all?

Yeah I agree. Australia could have been sanctioned and blacklisted in war crimes as well but it wasn't done,and although not directly related to this thread and certainly no justification for war the lack of proportionality in this instance sets a frame worldwide that the west makes ,breaks and interprets and applies the rules arbitrarily which is racist and perpetuates injustices.

Also in this case applied to another great power things could go south and neither side seems to be leaving any doors open for diplomacy.

Well, let's hope in the future the ref is consistent as they say. But I have my doubts.

Every country in Eastern Europe has enclaves of other nationalities caught there after countries were redefined either after WW1 or after the fall of the USSR. All of the old Yugoslavia, Romania were Hungarian before the end of WW1. Transylvania in Romania is mostly Hungarian speaking despite speaking Hungarian being illegal in Romania. There are towns in southern Ukraine with majority Hungarian speaking. Not an excuse to fire missiles

Actually. Chernobyl has 3 reactors and have been recommissioned a few times since the disaster. Only one reactor blew up. The others were fine.

I could be wrong, but I am pretty sure that they're the last of the operational RBMK reactors in the former Soviet republics.

I think the last time they used it to power eastern Ukraine was 2000 or 2001. It can be recommissioned anytime. Some say that the gas and oil companies like it decommissioned to make Europe reliant on their energy.
The reason Putin went for Chernobyl was he wouldn't incur street skirmishes. It's a desolate area. He can pass through without resistance.

Yesterday BP withdrew as a major shareholder in the Russian State owned Rosneft, costing the Russian govt directly $35B. Today Shell withdrew from Russia, including a 25% stakehold in the largest LNG plant in Russia. The European arm of Russias largest bank Sberbank looks like failing. Many large international companies are getting out of dodge.

What is happening to the Ukrainians is unforgivable, but Putins actions in this war will hit the Russian people hard.
