Signings, Suggestions & Rumours Discussion

we don't need Madden moving forward with Brooks Hastings douhie Laurie and peachey all able to play in halves for 2023
Well...Laurie wont be leaving full back any time soon unless his defence and positional play doesnt improve.....but hes had a full off season to work on that and hes a talented kid so S/B ok

..Douhi can play 6 or centre. Was our best player last year.Wont be going anywhere unless he doesnt fully recover from knee problems..then 13 comes into consideration
Peachey can play 13 or 6 (and maybe 9).Not sold on The Peach..his trials were ordinary..but he does play a lot of positions. Needs to play some of them ...any of them ......well.And hold the pill
...BUT.... the real jury(ie coaching staff) decision is Brooks vs Madden, both of whom need to step up this year .

As our highest paid player,Brooks, hasnt delivered consistent value in 7-8 years, and clearly has a problem with the coach as evidenced by his Bulldogs tanking last year..........,if Douhi had been fit at start of this season Ive no doubt Brooks wld be playing for Knights rite now,as Hastings was clearly bought in to replace him at 7

The other (Madden)is virtually on a not much more than a development contract, waiting for an extended run in the NRL to gain experience and more importantly prove himself(which he will get with inevitable injuries to Hastings or Brooks before Douhi returns).

On triasl evidence,Maddens passing and kicking game may already have passed Brooks(?),but hes no-where near the defender..yet .But thats not his main job

For at least half of us on this forum, its Brooks who has to lift his running game significantly now that Hastings is doing the organisation and thinking for our halves..or we'll find something better to do with that $700k+ we paying Luke this year and next

If nothing changes, once Douhi is back its Brooks who Id be loaning to Raiders (not Madden)as Ricky mite get something out of him to pump up his price for a 2023 trade

Get your facts right before going on these repetitive lengthy meaningless diatribes!!

You don't rate Brooks - WE GET IT!!

But far better judges than you and "at least half of us on this forum" do see his value as an NRL footballer ahead of unproven toilers like Madden - so please just get over it!!

Herman Tofaenos mates all congratulating him on insta for signing a new contract with the tigers. His agency just said it was an 'elite development' contract. Presume it's for 2023.

With him and Mana'mia on contract it lessens the need to get into a bidding war for Pele

Maybe he was originally heading back home after SG Ball? Might indicate he will be upped to Flegg for remainder of 2022. Elite Development Squad is something I haven't heard before. I doubt it is a development contract.

As for Pele, I don't think Sheens would throw massive money at him. But a good offer should still go out. He is Top 30 ready now!

Madden is developing nicely and I look forward to his rise to the NRL with WTs. Of those names you have mentioned, Brooks is the only certainty although Hastings has had a good start in the trials. I'd like to believe WTs is about development and giving a good young half away does not appear to be good business and sets a poor precedent. You release one, then the pack will circle for others imo.

I think yr a bit sharp there.

@clontarfkid is correct IMHO,

WTs have a history of persistence with players who aren't delivering and letting go prospects.

I like Brooks, he's one of my Fav players and for many years has had nothing around him.

He has this year to prove he deserves to be our No1 halve.

We cant let go one of the best young halves who has only just made his debut.

Lets see what happens in 2022.

If those two blokes were the only picks, In a world where you're picking the man himself based on footballing ability....
There is no one in Football, At any club that, given the choice - Chooses Madden over Brooks.

Only the few Loonies on this forum.

Ricky Stuart has stated that Brad Schneider a 21 year old Canberra half will replace Fogarty so any talk of a player swap with Madden and a Canberra player may not eventuate (could also be a smoke screen but who knows).

Ill spell it our really simply for you then...its a choice of how we use Brooks $$$ now that we have a real no 7 in Hastings.,and a real 6 in Douhie..keep spending $700+ on a serial underperforming Brooks who has played a not insignificant role in WTs being favorites for the spoon this year
...or buy a quality srtike centre or middle forward>maybe both..?
Madden is just a back up 6/7 atm..but with opportunity may prove better than that in time

Lets see what happens in 2022.

I've watched Brooks for years and I think he cops it unfairly. At the same time Brooks is under pressure. He is on good coin and we have Hastings, Doueihi and Madden who could all replace him in the halves.

Brooks should be picked when he is the best option which to me he is right now. I can see that changing over the course of the season. I think Roberts is in a similar position. To'a looks like likely and Talau, Kepaoa and Doueihi are all due back from injury.

We have to wait and see what happens this season.

I think the big point is we are looking like a much more professionally run club when it comes to recruitment and retention and the club will have to make some tough roster decisions.

This needs a qualifier and that qualifier is right now. Madden has shown me 20 good minutes of footy. He has to produce a lot more than that but he is 21. Brooks is 27.

I've written Madden off as never going to make it but he could easily surpass Brooks.

I understand your train of thought clontarfkid, the cap money and player money is all important in who the club recruit or release...during this year there are plenty of areas of the team that are open to re-valuation....
Douhi is to come back as is AJ,talau 3 players that have proven that they can play NRL albeit Douhi is the stand out...IF Brooks has a very good year with Hastings in the halves with him, then AD will have to be accommodated elsewhere in the team...
Madden has been pretty good and I like him as depth player atm and only see him as a halves player I dont know if he is capable in other areas...Peachey for mine would slot easy in the six or 7 and maybe the 13,he is proven talent and is yet to settle in...
I think we really have to watch how the team pans out between rnds 1-6,this season many have to step up and perform,we do have youth, experience and older players,a fair few will be under the microscope and their performances will prove their worth..
In my honest opinion,Brooks has the Ideal environment to show that he is worth keeping,I dont think Madge will keep blowing his horn for him like he has over the last couple of years, its up to the players now, poor performances or attitudes can no longer have a place in a team that hasnt played finals in 9/10 years..
I also think and its just my opinion that the club has set their sights on buying players that not only can handle the NRL arena but will strengthen the whole squad in general,I dont know how many times we have been excited to have players signed, yet have been greatly disappointed with poor performance or attitudes on either big money or overhyped potential....this year could be great, but next year the jigsaw puzzle will really take shape.....

Save some exclamation marks for the rest of us.

Was already in our SG ball squad?? From tigers page:
“A number of key members of the 2021 Laurie Daley Cup squad will transition to the 2022 SG Ball squad this year with Queensland signings Keenen Tempest, Herman Tofaeono and Junior Taungatua boosting the team for the new campaign.”
