Shane Perry was standing next to Darren Lockyer in career best form it helpsI’m sure someone will mention Chad Townsend being a premiership winning halfback. Yet so was Shane Perry.
as a club coach, better than Bennethe had all the inside knowledge on the opposition
Nofo social distances from the sideline in defence. . . . . . . . and Nofo is looking at the A and B defenders.
There is a great interview of him talking about it and tells how Smith absolutely gave it to him before and after origin Smith was nasty and along the lines of do you think your better then me try to find the interview it's greathe had all the inside knowledge on the opposition
Eh, Liddle does try to run but he normally picks bad times to do it. Too often does he run straight into the marker for a gain of about one metre.
A lot of young dummy halves realise once they get to the NRL they can't just run up the guts all the time and have to adjust accordingly. We can see Jake Simpkin going through the same thing at the moment
Flanagan
Running from dummy half is well and good but the most important thing is getting good service to your forward and halves, particularly in the attacking zone, and that's where he struggles100% his natural playing style has changed under Madge. People focus on the last few years.
Liddle was getting us excited about his potential because of his speed & darts out of dummy half not because he could make 30-40 tackles or pass the ball.
It's all about timing and using the natural instincts. Grant, Smith, Cook, Api and a few others still do it very well. They know when to target the A/B defenders at the ruck whilst having support plays ready to attack. The playing style for those guys hasn't changed since coming into grade. Step up is a component but coaching is a bigger impact just like halves & fullbacks.
If they are told to follow structured plays all the time rather than a coach use the strength of the players the players will follow what they are told and then won't use the instincts that got them into NRL in the 1st place which happens to alot of kids these days.
That’s why we don’t play finals football. Lack of real quality in the backrow has been a major issue for a long time and I guess since Lawrence got injured you could say the same about the centre position
I liked Lui as well. Had all the skills and could have been anything… shame he f’d it all up.Lui had superb hands, spatial awareness and also a tremendous pass. He was very strong and quick over the first few metres. There is a highlights reel putting I believe Eillis into space on the right hand side of the field. It was an amazing ball. He was a special talent and it is very sad how his career ended in the NRL.
He won’t just be an immortal, he is the top of the tree.I honestly never saw the worship around Cam Smith. Spent his while career under Bellyache surrounded by some of the best players in the game (Cronk, Slater, plus all their monster forwards) and Robbie's stats per game consistently beat Smith's.
Longevity and leadership is definitely a factor and I think a healthy dose of media and NRL bias (diamond ring for the missus), but just watching him play for over a decade I would not put him up there with the Immortals. Hall of fame, sure, but Immortal, no way.
If he had played in a team with an average coach and the average players around him, I think he would have still been good but not as lauded as he is. Plus there's plenty of dodgy stuff he's been involved with that his supporters seem to turn a blind eye on. He's like the Trump, who is a convicted Rapist and Felon of the NRL. 😉
Anyway, just wanted to get that off my chest. Rant over.
That video is depressing wow the skill and speed using the full field with passing and stripping numbers in attack Sheen's style is amazing reminder of Ricky Stuart's passing at the Raiders when they use to strip numbers and use the full field to attackI liked Lui as well. Had all the skills and could have been anything… shame he f’d it all up.
gee, I miss Gareth though…..
Mate …. It’s been horrendous reading.6 pages of posts since I checked yesterday, has something happened?
Nope but lots of people reminiscing about Rob Lui.
