Signings, Suggestions & Rumours Discussion

Article below stating Tigers still very interested in Nanai, makes you wonder with JT, Holmes, Townsend and next season LL all on big money, how the Cowboys can afford him:

The Cowboys are ready to re-sign Jeremiah Nanai as the game’s next million-dollar teenager but the second-rower wants a few weeks to weigh up his options.

One of those options is reportedly the Wests Tigers who have plenty of money to spend and have a big opinion of the 19-year-old.

“He’s off contract at the end of the year and the Wests Tigers are after him, they’re very keen on him,” NRL journalist Brent Read told Triple M.

“Apparently he’s told the (Cowboys) that ‘I want to wait a few weeks, see how the season goes’ but I think you’re going to find he’s going to be the next million-dollar teenager in this game.

“We’re talking three or four years at $1.5 to $2 millions dollars (total), that will be what I believe the Cowboys will offer, it just comes down to whether another club comes over the top of that but they’re desperate to keep him up there.

“He wants to wait three or four weeks but on his form (in Round 1) you’d say every week they wait his price is going to go up, he’s a gun.”

NRL great Benji Marshall, who works at Tigers with their developing players, agreed and said the Cowboys should lock him down.

“Yeah I rate him, really quality player,” he said.

“The thing with all these kids is they don’t specialise in one thing, they do everything and you can play them in multiple positions and if I was the Cowboys I’d be locking him for sure.”

Read added: “He was born in New Zealand so the Kiwis should be getting the claws in here. I think he was part of the emerging Maroons but it’s not too late.”

Don't know how cows can afford him, has a clearer path with us too

Geez I would love to see this kid in our jersey. Doubt it will happen, big move to go from Nth QLD to the city living of Sydney majority of kids struggle with that type of move.

This is exactly right. No way the Cowboys can afford to throw another $500k per season at a forward. Apparently they are looking at Taupau as well. Imagine they will flick Jordan McLean at the end of the year and may be able to offload Taumalolo to the Dolphins. Still they have resigned Luki, signed Luciano and have plenty of others on considerable coin...

Nanai looks great. I’d be throwing plenty his way. Plays in a position we need to bolster. He defended very well on the edge. Made plenty of tackles

We need to chase Mark Nawaqanitawase, played league for burwood-concord wolves, local guy - cant get a crack at the waratahs im assuming because of the coach turnover and personal issues, but well.worth a look. Old St pats or trinity boy i think, played with Doueihi too in junior reps. Worth a look .. I always rated him.

Really Benji, you're employed by the club yet instead of saying you would love to have Nanai join us you push his current club to Re-sign him.
We still have a long way to go in recruitment

The players will depart season end
Tamou , Liddle , LL , Kelma , Garner , Roberts
we don’t have much coming back in only
Appi , Paps ,
still need quality in
Prop , Backrow , Centre , hope we start buying soon
Garner isn't confirmed, neither is Liddle....
I believe those are all likely though..

Maybe even Offa and Mikaeke too.

If this young kid from the Cows is as good as everyone thinks, he will get plenty of offers from more glamorous clubs than ours.
Personally I think we are as usual we are being used to increase the kids market value and forcing the Cows to part with more dollars than they planned
