Daine Laurie #237

The club should have an issue with it. The fact they don't is a major concern in itself.

Our player lack professionalism, they lack the desire to improve, they treat the club as an easy paycheck. Hence this attitude of being soft, going through the motions.

We're not talking some random tuesday night, we're talking the night before a crucial game.
I get both sides of the argument.

I suppose if it’s a slap on the pokies for 30 mins it’s no big deal but like the generally successful people devote everything to their success. I.e Kobe getting up at 4am and working out all day. Getting to games at least 3-4 hours before everyone else and shooting and working out. That’s the sort of mamba mentality we all need in life. It’s what separates the good from the great

Hold the phone peeps.. this has escalated..it's now an ENGULFING SCANDAL..

‘They’re grown men’
Benji and Kenty have clashed over the ‘storm in a teacup’ pokies scandal engulfing the Tigers

Is there actual games of Rugby League anymore these guys could report on..
It's dismal how little they bother reporting actual football these days.

I don

I don't see effort and desire 100% on the field, I agree there. But to link it to a pub visit the night before, not drinking, really really long stretch.

And if we won, it's no longer unprofessional? It either us or it isn't.

If they were at the pub not drinking, but watching 30 for 30 on the big screen still unprofessional?

What if it was 4pm and not 10pm? Still unprofessional?

Makes no sense. Not drinking, no illegal or immoral activity. Jog on.
I agree I think BB is drawing an excessively long bow here.

For $100 I could buy a beautiful rib-eye flame grilled fillet, salad and chips, sip on a schooner of mid strength and come home.
Probably then relax destressing in a hot bath then go to bed.
Fall asleep counting all the money I just saved by not throwing it away to a one armed bandit.

Yes, it's not that players are never allowed out of the house. It's the attitude and culture of our club we're talking about. The desire to be your best, to strive for perfection and do everything you possibly can to be the best player and team mate you can be.

If you were to say look at Origin players and see how they spend the 24 hours leading into a match how many do you think would be heading to the pub? I don't have the answer to that, but an educated guess would be few, if any, would be messing around in public before a match. After the match to blow off some steam, sure. But not BEFORE the match.

I read an interview with one of Mayweather's Sparing partners. This bloke was saying that Mayweather was so focussed, that when ever he felt like he needed to work on something he would call him and say I need you at my gym in 15 mins. This bloke was telling the story of how it was anytime of day, 3am because Mayweather had woken and needed to spa within 15mins. It sounds to me that even Mayweather's sparing partners are more focused than a Tigers NRL player?

How about this….at the pub, the night before the game, you’re surrounded by a bunch of drunken bums who love Newcastle.
Always a chance there’s some idiot who wants to prove a point.
Maybe they wanted to expose themselves to a similar atmosphere to that of the game. Left of field preparation.

I agree with your point, and it’s at the heart of our real problem. Further evidence, as if we needed it, is the small number of long term players, and the average age of current players. The last remnants Brooks and Nofa, are unhappy, gosh Nofa is returning to his old ways of running back to his own line.
The club has had a very poor attitude about maintaining and building upon its foundations. The plan since inception has been a simple one..give it a year or two if it’s not working then rotate the playing group.
I can see why they would overpay Nofa and Brooks to hang onto them at all cost and to also keep Madge.
It’s a start.

I don't know, I'd be OK to get paid to jump in a hot tub with Floyd Mayweather. Does he expect any funny business whilst in there, or just conversation?

Yeah Kobe’s trainer was 100% the same.

He used to say “rest at the end not the beginning “
Same with Phelps etc

Perhaps the club did have an issue with it, which caused the players to go off the boil in protest?
Perhaps that is why Pascoe was sitting with players pregame, to help placate the players?
Laurie’s form was pathetic the following day. OTOH, Jet had a reasonable game with some effort plays.
Are the people raving about jets performance basing it on one line break/bombed try?

Don’t know you’ll have to ask them? I’m not one of them.
My understanding is that Jet would feel obligated to have a go where others may not?
Interestingly when Kenty asked Benji why Tigers aren’t performing well, Benji had nothing, choosing to fall back on that old catch all word..”inconsistency.”

It's the little things..
He was chewing gum while he was being interviewed by a reporter via WT website
You can clearly see the gum.
Yes, I noticed that too. But that's not attitude, that's media training.

To me, the same old problem is what I've posted many times before. No real leader that others respect and are scared of. I think that's why Tamou was signed, but he has failed.

Someone like a Finucane, who others are forced to follow through respect. Not too many available and the good ones are rare anyway. The real leader wouldn't chew gum at interview and so others wouldn't either, they copy from respect, not because they are told to.

I'd also go big and pay $$$ for a package deal. Rather than a lonely leader, maybe a Yeo and Fisher-Harris. Sure, it won't happen but that's the example. They become the culture and direction and there is more than one. We could help with the bulldogs cap and take Josh Jackson and Luke Thompson.

It's not always the skill left in their tank. It's what they bring mentally and experience wise.

I guess that's a facetious comment but it is a bad look and comes on top of any number of 'bad look' incidents over the past couple of years or so. I have no doubt the culture of the club is very poor and not reflective of a professiuonal sporting club. When I think about culture it should come from the head of the organisation. In the respect I believe Pascoe has failed to develop and sustain a winning culture in the club and should be shown the door.
Pascoe is in front of Madge to get the Wests Tigers axe.
