Signings, Suggestions & Rumours Discussion

A straight swap Brooks for Thompson I would pay give or take whatever difference there would be in their salaries. But Bulldogs only having to pay 300k of Brook's contract while I assume we take on all of Thompsons would be insanity.

Only way we should consider that is if the dogs are doing the same for Thompson, so it ends up we're both just paying for each others players.

Has Laurie ever played five-eighth and might that work to give us some zip in the halves with maybe Toa taking the fullback spot. Daine was very poor in the Warriors game and doesn't seem to have recovered from his injury and layoff from last year.

In top form I think he is our best fullback but he is miles off that level at that moment. Would Doueihi have missed that bomb ? How many players don't score off the Brooks kick if they are where Laurie was ?

He needs to go this week and get his form back in reserves.

I'm fine if he gets picked this week and then comes out and he plays to his ability but I wouldn't take that risk if I was selecting the team.
agree with most of it, the question: how Laurie progressed from being one of the safest FB's to this, has to be answered.
Is this an once off badder, or the real problem?
Also, who will replace him, based on the recent form i.e. which reserve is better than him? IMHO, we will quickly identify our luck of debt at too many positions and our very flowed recruitment, that lucks rational decisions e.g. no gap analysis -> recruitment driven by who is available, instead the need to cover positions identified in the gap analysis.
The perfect example is the Storm, when their first choice FB was injured, they promoted Papenhuyzen and the rest is history

Injury was to his leg. He now has bumbling hands syndrome...

Forget about dillon for first grade at this club for a couple of reasons, he needs time, I’m not saying he will ever be as good as papenhuyzen, but I watched papenhuyzen and he couldn’t handle reserve grade when first played it, he was timid and rag dolled and mr Mac and others didn’t see it in papenhuyzen, so they let him go. We didn’t want him. Unfortunately we don’t have time for a dillon to sit in reserve grade, make mistakes be inconsistent, get stronger, gain confidence etc…. We have nobody in reserve grade to help the youngsters progress, and it doesn’t matter how dillon plays, macdonell doesn’t like him.
You watch a lot of queensland cup?
You seem to just be a bitter person. Papenhuyzen was very highly rated by the tigers, and was offered a contract (not sure if verbally or written) albeit not a huge one as Teddy was understandably the primary focus for first grade. We didn't want to lose him but Storm went very aggressive very early and the lure of Billy got him to the Storm. To say no one at the club rated him is laughable. But yes everyone knew he was a little guy and needed time to develop and mature in his body. Which he did and is where is now as a result.

They offload Thompsons deal and we are paying some of Brook's deal there so instead of them having all of his they will only have 300k of Brook's deal is what I'm hearing
So by your logic we'd be paying 1.3 million to get Thompson and offload Brooks.

That's laughable.

A swap I can believe, with both clubs taking on the full value of the contract. No way we're going to throw so much money down the drain though

I’m not sure I feel like it’s different when people who are actually on the field with you and training with you are teaching you things your more likely to listen to them then a coach since there actually there going through it all with them. Stefano said when he went to origin camp he got so much out of seeing how dale prepares for a game then came back and killed it for the rest of the year players like dale influence players around them for the better and no he won’t be the player he is now in 3 years but he will still be there leader he’s is
That's baloney, I said it at the time. Stefano sees Dale Finucane doing his strapping for a week, and THAT makes Stefano a better footballer all of a sudden?

Not all the work done in the offseason, not the advice and management of the coaching staff, not the process of bringing him slowly into the side and working him up to being capable of starting front row? Not the confidence he has since shown to re-sign with the club?

No he watched Dale Finucane train for a week, and that's the difference.

I'm not saying Dale Finucane would not be a good influence, but also I think there's every reason to believe James Tamou is or should be a good influence, as a senior experienced successful footballer.

Tigers have signed plenty of "leaders' over the years, and some really do have a good appreciable influence like Scott Sattler, Gareth Ellis... and others just end up past their best and collecting a paycheck like Braith Anasta and arguably James Tamou.

The issue with Finucane specifically is not that he wouldn't be a good influence, it's that Sharks had to sign him for 4 seasons to make that deal happen.

#6 all day and has so much belief in himself to succeed at 6.

A man on a mission.
I like Adam at Doueihi at 6, Brooks at 7, Hastings to 13

Or

Doueihi at 6, Brooks at 9, Hastings to 7 and Liddle to the Dogs for a part payment on Thompson

Still a bit like rearranging the deck chairs on the Titanic

I believe Finucane will not complete his contract and will end up on staff at the Sharks.

It would be a mistake for Brooks personally to go to the dogs. He needs to go to a club with an established culture. Would just be repeating his time here.

If Brooks thinks he gets unwarranted criticism here imagine what he would get at the dogs, their supporters are much worse than our most abusive supporters

If we rated him then why didn't we sign him when storm offered him around a few years later?
