Wests Tigers Centre of Excellence

Clearly a man with skin in the game. At least its not Richard Crookes

You mean Richard Crooked?

Did an install on one of their sites last year, the job ran behind by like 5 or 6 months.

They're all pretty shithouse to be fair. Multiplex, Mirvac, Built, RC, ADCO, ProBuild. They are all garbage to work with/under.

Commercial building is a nasty space to be in. I have been a PM (project manager) & CM (construction manager) with a few 1st tier commercial builders. Not my best period of my working life. There is no craftsmanship of building in that space.

Is this a supply demand issue? Is it that the better workers/tradies are mostly being employed by the residential construction industry?

Mate it has always been (in my time) the same. These builders go in on tight margins (2-3%) to win the job & then look to screw the subbies &client to pick up the extra margin.
When I was a CM, if we won a project I would be in the office the following Saturday & Sunday, with a PM, Estimator & a Contract Administrator; pouring over drawings, contracts looking for possible delays & variations. Then they would go to at least 10 subbies in each trade/supplier and smash them for a price.
Crap part of the industry, good for only very few.
I now run my own business in high-end Architectural residential and I am proud of my work.

I have to be fair, I could not imagine working in a space where you have to be across every trade on every floor of a 15-20 floor development. That would send me to an early grave.

Sounds like a dog-eat-dog type of world, thanks mate, for all that firsthand info. 👍

Mate organising subbies is like herding cats, especially when they have no desire to produce good work. The worst thing that has happened to this industry is self regulation. My god there has been built some rubbish in the apartment sector.
I have a golden rule with my subbies and that is when I confront them about any possible quality issues, I say the following "would you accept that in your house? & if you would, go now and do not call me again"
My reputation for quality can never be put at risk by poor work.

Haha yeah the age old "mate I'm not shopping/living here."

As an educated guess I would say end of April but obviously subject to change. There is still a lot of internal work and fit outs to be done and some external cladding etc to be completed. Cheers
Unfortunately this has been further delayed
Builders are not currently giving a new date but I have been told it may be delayed to at least June

It’s a double edged sword.
Developers and clients expect work done for nothing which has forced builders to re-evaluate tender pricing.
A result is builders go for cheap subcontractor pricing and with that comes a myriad of additional problems. You usually end up with an influx on-site of people who barely speak English and dont readily take instruction.
Less headaches come with reputable stubbies, but reputable stubbies come with the higher price tag.

Question someone I know told me some stories about Meriton they said the worst experience they have had if it's close enough it's more then good enough have you ever worked with them ?

Wonder if the ground will be ready for the flegg game currently scheduled to be played there on the weekend...
Guessing it’s not. I saw somewhere it was being promoted to be at Lidcombe Oval now.

Construction looks a long way off on those photos.
