Sorry mate, but you obviously dont understand the job a coach has to do with an inept squad full of youth, aged players and pretenders....he has been coaching for awhile and won premierships with talented players...what do we have as far as talented NRL level players go???...as I said earlier its easier to blame a coach than the hero players that think they are NRL standard players...I get that people don't want to change coaches to avoid the whole reset situation that we've done repeatedly over the last decade. But there is no way in absolute hell anyone can defend this coaches ability to coach. Not a single way, and don't make a fool of yourself trying. The only reason he remains is to avoid the constant shuffling of coaches this club is a victim of over the last few years.
Paws I can understand that you can only see poor coaching within this team, and you want Madge gone, its human nature when you are passionate about a sport, especially our great game...having said that, dont you ever stop and think that after the training, video sessions, gameplan talks and structures talk that maybe these players havent got the ability, talent or footy smarts to perform every week...Thanks for your reply. I acknowledge his passion and loyalty to the club and players.
Our team looked like a rabble against the Sharks. The impression I received is the commentators were shocked at how poorly the team performed and I am not referring to the score. The lack of urgency, fundamentals not at the NRL standard, near non existent kick chase and many of our senior players looking as though their confidence had been stripped away. In the warm-up, our players look lethargic and it was obvious we were in for a hiding. Even inexperienced players can chase, pass and look energetic.
I do not expect wins, but I do expect incremental improvement which has not happened. It has been the opposite, with the team regressing imo.
Mate he recruited half of them. The team don't play for the coach and its been a gradual change, it wasn't completely like this at the beginning of his tenure. Sorry but again, there is no defending this coach at all there has been 0 improvement whatsoever. I get that there are players below first grade standard, but at the very least you got to play for the coach. At the moment, we have 0 attacking structure, our defense is paper thin. You really want to defend the coach beyond all of that with this mantra of an inept squad. This coach is been gifted a couple years at least extra. I don't think there has been a single individual player that has improved in his tenure, and please don't tell me there is not a single player in this squad that would of improved elsewhere because thats rubbish.Sorry mate, but you obviously dont understand the job a coach has to do with an inept squad full of youth, aged players and pretenders....he has been coaching for awhile and won premierships with talented players...what do we have as far as talented NRL level players go???...as I said earlier its easier to blame a coach than the hero players that think they are NRL standard players...
Have to disagree on that, as I have seen similar in plenty of people in his age bracket.Madge at Souths

The poor bloke is broken. No one ages like that in 8 or 9 years.
Harry Grant had no problem shining under Maguire. Brought through from a different system that expects players to leave it all out on the field and be accountable for their own performance . Our two longest serving senior players and probably highest paid ones have been entrenched in a system of finger pointing and continue to set the standard. Now plenty of the fingers are being directly pointed at them is it any wonder that they have no clue how to lead us out.Mate he recruited half of them. 3 or 4 Dale Finucane type personalities. But those guys won’t come here until the current administration fall on their sword.Who can change the culture of the club that has 17 years of Back to back failure?
All I'm saying is I'm glad madge wasn't the coach in 2018, with that squad we would of been forced to forfeit games, but at least the coach at the time had those players believing. Harry Grant is a good point, though he wasn't here long enough to see how his career would of panned out, I don't think its long odds he would of regressed. Simply put even when he was here madge was playing him under injury cloud with his hand, who knows how long he would of lasted.Harry Grant had no problem shining under Maguire. TT, do you believe Maguire is a coach who is most effective in short tenures of say 2 years?
Your comment about him being too hard on some players or too intense resonates and is consistent with rumblings (admittedly secondhand) from his time at Souths. Do you believe a coach should evolve or be innovative over his career?
Every coach plays players under injury cloud including Robinson and Bellamy. The difference between Harry Grant and our blokes is he is a competitor it's as plain as day. The only handbrake for success for Harry at this club was not Maguire it was the standard of the players around himAll I'm saying is I'm glad madge wasn't the coach in 2018, with that squad we would of been forced to forfeit games, but at least the coach at the time had those players believing. In Morris’s defence his time as Sharks coach he had little to no cap to work with which is why they heavily invested in their juniors but we may as well give him a chance he has at least got the Sharks finals boundIs that the Guy who Cronulla punted 'cause he couldn't attract players to the club.....thats our biggest issue as a club...John Morris good choice to take the club forward.... 🙂
I’m firmly of the belief Flanno could do it with Morris as his assistant. THEN, give Sheens the keys to the place (juniors and pathways) - as @Cobarcats has mentioned recently here in forum.A new coach will make little difference in 2022. Even Vince Lombardi using divine intervention from above would struggle with our roster.
The only benefit in sacking Madge would be if we can get someone who will be better at attracting talent in 2023.
Blokes like John Morris or Flannagan won't do this for us.
