David Nofoaluma #164

Did he really only have 1 hit up in 80 minutes of reserve grade football? That’s really saying I wanna be back in first grade E5FA8A29-32EC-45EE-978D-BD81196A8F71.png

Can’t tell without seeing it. Could have been a 2 on 1 situation. Nofa is not known for his defence, but he couldn’t do any worse than Kepaoa.

The attachment shows that he's made the least amount of tackles (5) but with the worst in tackle efficiency 62.5%.
I think i'd prefer not to see how this happened during this game.

That’s one aspect. Using your best players helps too. We’re not a friggin choirboy group.
My impression is, and I want to be clear it's an impression only, I haven't heard anything, that Nofo isn't hugely respected within the playing group and this recent outcome is part of a broader issue of his professionalism and commitment to the playing group.

I wonder if this were a first-time indiscretion, whether the leadership response would be the same as it has allegedly been with Nofo. Still alleged, the whole story, not confirmed.

My thoughts too…I think he will be “managed” out of the joint and this is just the start.

It’s completely up to Noffa to respond now…I hope he does because when he’s in form I do enjoy watching him.

When Madge didn’t select him before he responded so I believe he will. Could of just been a contract year though

Dumped Tiger insists he’s not a ’reserve grade player’

Dumped Wests Tigers winger David Nofoaluma has broken his silence on his demotion into reserve grade, declaring “you live and learn”.

Nofoaluma was empathetic about his desire to return to the top grade by saying “I’m not a reserve grade player” as he took to the field for the Magpies at Redfern Oval on Saturday.

The Tigers flyer has not been seen in the NRL since May 1 as he dealt with concussion problems. He was eligible for first grade last week but was overlooked after the senior players wanted him stood-down because he was drinking while recovering from the head knocks.

“It was in-house,” Nofoaluma said after getting through 80 minutes on Saturday.

“It was one of those things that happened. I took it with both hands. It was disappointing. I’m back now and I want to enjoy my footy.

“You live and you learn. I wouldn’t say (I have to earn back the players) trust.”

Repetitive head knocks prior to his off-field indiscretion kept the Samoan sidelined. He had suffered head knocks in three consecutive matches before taking time out.

“After the third week, the club doctor said it was time to take some time away from footy and have a rest from contact sport,” Nofoaluma said.

“I was getting headaches and was very lethargic. Copping them in repetitive weeks, the medical staff were doing their job and looking after me.

“I took that on and took some time away from footy. It was scary.”

Nofoaluma struggled defensively early in the Magpies’ 36-32 loss to South Sydney. He played the entire second half at fullback and laid on a try in the dying stages, in his second successive week in reserve grade.

It remains to be seen if he did enough to earn a recall into the top grade ahead of the Tigers clash against Manly next Sunday.

“I will reassess where I’m at,” Nofoaluma said. “I will see how things are going. I have to be mentally prepared to come back to first grade. I’m enjoying playing (NSW Cup). They’ve been fantastic.

“I’m always ready to play first grade. If you ask me, I’m not a reserve grade player but due to circumstances, what’s happened has happened. I’ve moved on from it. I am just happy to be back playing footy.”

South Sydney veteran Josh Mansour scored twice for the Rabbitohs.
