WT Ownership, The Board & Senior Management - MEGA Thread

The board had a tough job after the financial demise of the Balmain side for which was an abomination for which they had nothing to do with and has resulted in a potential reduction of income of the JV to bring in the bacon and keep that side included while retaining control of the former Balmain Leagues for the club to prevent third party parasites.

For football matters they have delegated to a football manager and coaching staff.

If the board must be questioned it must be on the basis of the people that they have delegated to i.e. Sheens .

To be honest Cleary forward I'm happy with all the coaching and assistant selections. Player recruiting must be the primary responsibility of the football manager and head coach.

Things just haven't worked out till now.
The club had to make modifications to their plans as it was failing, so I have no idea why they're being labelled incompetent just because another coach hasn't immediately come in to replace him. I trust there's a strategic plan in place and we're just watching them follow the process through.
IMO the club's inability to correctly devise and execute a succession plan is what has negatively impacted both the credibility of the club and the team's ability to remain competitive.
However during the past week not only have they publicly outlined the criteria for which the decision was made to sack Madge but they've also clearly identified the main requirements of the coaching role, for his successor, and included defined goals or objectives with risk management/mitigation - to prevent another Ivan fiasco from happening as well as the ongoing problem for previous coaches with cap constraints and limitations with building their own roster.
It's unheard of for the WTs.

Noddy’s Nuffies nil
Many Manly meat pies

Board left scratching their head as Woogie is gone and it didn’t fix anything

The thing that confuses me sheens saying “we are looking for someone for the next 3-5 years with all our juniors”

….

Then what the hell was Madge brought in for? And by getting rid of him, how does that change things?

Ii just don’t understand the reasoning.

One can only hope that it was done to enable something else The background to take place.

It's obvious madge was not doing enough to develop the kids

Measure, how have they improved, how is he managing their injury, what's madge balance between external recruitment and developing juniors?

Answer is clear not good enough, we got lucky some established players didn't want to come here and madge injury management questionable.

I don't know why it's so hard to understand sheens wants a new coach so he can't make excuse of previous coach recruitment and he wants a coach that does better in development space.

It's clear.

Does anyone find it odd that as soon as Madge is gone we have a club destined for greatness? We now have pathways, junior development, world class juniors waiting to be old enough to play NRL.
Did Madge leave the joint in such great shape?

When was that ever said, sheens said he wants a coach who will be patient with the juniors and cherry pick external recruitment to allow for Junior development to come through grade.

A coach is not singularly responsible for all those areas at a club nor should he ever be.
Maguire worked his arse off to try and turn things around its well documented, but all that really matters is results and in every NRL club we know how it works the coach is always the fall guy.

Many times during the media urging for a new coach.
Here’s some wise words for any new coach considering the 3 opportunities currently available, from Josh Hannay..

“You’ve also just got to be really careful of the situations you jump into,” he said.

“There are so many factors that go into what you have got to consider.

“You have to be really sure about what you’re stepping into is a good situation.

“I’d be really mindful of that if an opportunity came along.

“Just be really sure that a lot of the off-field things are in place to ensure the club is in a position to achieve some immediate to long-term success.”

Yeh, I hope it’s the case, but as Sheens pointed out, the issue with Madge was there prior to him arriving. Therefore, if there is a better solution it has to be in the minds of those who originally wanted Madge gone, I would think.

Think you need to accept he just wasn't right for the club.

Even matty John was saying madge should take the year off and and think about changing the ways he deals with players.

Sheens said wasn't right fit too.

Madge knew what he was getting into, but still came.
Totally agree,my main argument always has been that Madge wanted to implement CHANGE,the pathways not to be ignored, the poor culture of the club and playing group needed changing, boys club eradicated, salary cap realignment and give the youth NRL experience...
So after trying to fix all those particular problems his sacking came down to poor results within the NRL top squad and weekly teams that this year were riddled with injuries and now seem to be back on track so Noddy has a chance with a full top team...while Tamou rings Madge and apologizes that his sacking was due to the TEAMS POOR performance, the players who get paid to perform at this level under contract...
AND most couldnt wait to celebrate the parting of Madge...a man of high esteem and loyalty removed while trying his very best for the team and club...the team he backed numerous times and stuck up for at every opportunity, got him sacked because they couldnt compete at this level...good luck to the DEVELOPMENT coach they select..

Mate the barriers every coach has had to deal with at this club is the quality/depth or lack there of, of the playing squad. If Sheens has written off this year and is still talking in 3 years time - doesn't put much faith in the players then that are currently in FG does it?

The comments from Johns are heavy. I always sensed this was an issue and Maguire couldn't get the best from the squad because of it.

Yes mate, madge didn't help that tho. personally i couldn't deal with madge for another 3 years let alone the players

Good luck with that plan. The next 'shakin in yer boots' coach is going to know that this premature ejectulating club will not be patient with whoever the poison goblet is handed to.

You’re right TT, the players cop it all the time. I can’t imagine what they must think of that.
