Luciano Leilua

I know its not from cap but they do have to pay Madge out for his final year ( great extension Paschode) while paying for another coach. Maybe this frees up coin that they were wasting on a player leaving to spend on a coach they will end up firing.

Club is gutless. After a non-effort last weekend we reward him by allowing him to pick up a bigger paycheque at a club that is going to play finals.

He should have been left to languish in reserves and the State Cup coach instructed to flog his arse and sent him busted to the Cowboys. The year is gone anyway so not having him play in the first 17 is no big deal.

This is why every prick dogs us, we just cave in and let it happen. This club sucks arse.

Hopefully the story or chatter as fox calls it, was started by the Tigers in a bid to get him to stay, and renege. Conjure up something. Robbie got Tedcat to renege after signing with Canberra(the writing was on the wall, about his intentions, we just did not want to believe it) Maybe he can get Luc to give us an extra 3 years. Or after spending the week in QLD and preparing for Magic round, Luciano doesn't like it up there. Then our pack actually grows with the purchase of Papalii, rather than, a replacement of one quality player to another.

Had to join this forum to ask you when he is going to renege?

It’s the optimism that will kill ya…

We need to try some others in the back row as our three starters this season are either gone or going
Not sure who they are though, we’ve got an Old Mother Hubbard’s cupboard assortment of backrowers after Garner and Tuilagi

I definitely have lost a touch of respect for LL but I understand why this has happened. He has been our best forward this whole year, especially the start of the year. He didn't let us down much in the last 2-3 years he's been here. He was all effort. This man deserves to play Finals football and an opportunity presented himself. I'm happy to put last week's performance as an outlier, but have lost some respect for him.

The bigger issue is our club and always will be. Moses, Aloiai, Luciano, Cleary, Taupau, Matterson etc... we can't just keep blaming others. All of them (bar LL) are massive scums but the club needs to change a lot. Players are not happy here, coaches don't seem happy here. It seems like a depressing environment to work in. They either come here as a last chance or use us as a stepping stone to a better team. We get good juniors come here because they see it as a quick way to get to First grade.

When this stuff keeps happening to us, we need to look inwards.

With where we are on the table, It's totally useless having 2 backrowers playing that aren't here next year. I can handle one in Garner, but not Tuilagi.

Might as well try anything at this stage. Nu Brown on edge, Twal on an edge (defensive move), hell, even through a decent sized centre in there like AJ. Try anything.

Our best forward?

Ofahengaue has been far more consistent...

Did his performance over the weekend have something to do with the decision?
He dogged it last w/e no doubt..plenty of company though
The issue is we REWARD this behaviour (like Mitchel Moses)and create an ongoing precedent rather than draw a line in the sand and say..show some respect LL
Do we really think that saving one third of LLs salary this year will make up for Madges $800k payout..crazy
Who is running this joint?

Luciano was so overrated. He barely created anything on the edge. All he did was steal easy metres by not passing that stunted any shift to his side. Like I really have never seen the hype. He will complement the Cowboys great team but they don't need him. He is really overpaid.

The club is embarrasingly weak. The Cowboys would have been desperate with Luki going down, and yet even with leverage we get nothing in return.
Cap space is all well and good, but we already have plenty of surplus cap space and can't sign anyone with it.

Taupau, Moses, Matterson, Aloiai (and probably others I've forgotten) - all left with nothing in return for WT, and we got worse as a result. They went on to improve their new teams, and play finals footy. Hard to see any other outcome again this time.

Im not sure how people on here dont understand the benefit of clearing cap room now and either signing other players or front paying others. It means we have more cap room next year and anyone who thinks players and managers wouldnt jump at being paid ahead are idiots. Who wouldnt want to save a year interest on that equivalent of a mortgage or invest it for a year and make an extra 2-10% for nothing. If you make the call this year is over which we did last week then it was the right and smart thing to do. Good move by the club
No.
This shows that we are still pushovers. Anyone can leave if they simply ask. That's embarrassing. We already had 500k to spend and no one to spend it on. So now we might have 800k to spend and still no one to spend it on, we resorted to front loading contracts the past 2 seasons, and you want to do it for a third? It's just reckless and irresponsible. We barely have anyone to spend that money on as it is. Brown will be one, Hastings is already on 500k+ next season, which is about right for his recent performances.

Letting one of our best players go for free is just spitting in the face of every member of the club.

We do have a lot of suckers at this club though, those who enjoy failure, I don't understand those physcopaths. If someone spits in your face you don't just say 'thanks'.

There's still time for a new signing to be announced in the morning though but if there is nothing in exchange this is yet another calamitous failure of this club
