Sheens cheerleader here - much in keeping with Sheen's himself the news is an innovative solution to a difficult problem. I woke up this morning feeling WTs on-field is in good hands. Benji's comments about playing a different style of football - more instinctive, struck a chord. I am sure that comment resonated among all players at the club and also those considering signing on for WTs.
 
This is such unchartered water I don’t even know how I feel about it. I want to feel good about and I want it to work but I have my doubts. Probably because supporting this club over many years rewires your perception of what success looks like. If Benji is head coach in 2025, is Pascoe still the CEO and Lee H still the Chair? I guess it depends on what success Sheens can deliver in 2023/24.

It was a typo, I left out a letter.

And nothing seriously personal, but Bonjee he’s got no runs on the coaching board.

This is an appointment based on the values of mateship and buddyism and it’s having a massive nepotistic lend.

Everyone rubbing their hands with glee and carving up the dosh.

I would have preferred Morris, Flanno or Tooves etc. People with runs on the board who know what their doing, or at least some idea. The dog to s$&t on command.

The club has gone off on a frolic of its own. The process and all this calling for transparency and procedural fairness simply abandoned.

Hands up who sees us paying out Benji for 2-3 of his final years because we realise he's just a great bloke and not an NRL head coach.

Being honest anybody has the same risk. I’d rather pay Benji out than ciraldo. No matter what Benji got us there. 🏆

Just what does an instinctive style of footy.mean though?
You've me tioned it twice now.... I'm wondering what you think it is....

Because imo rugby league is very very basic when you get down to the nuts and bolts... Yiu need forwards going forward first and.foremost before anything else... Good kickers, fast backs

Since Maguire was judged on results, I assume you expect the same here despite what is said in the media.

We were 13th when Madge was sacked. If we don't improve on that next year, will you still be cheerleading?

Matty Johns explains it superbly. Kinda the Storm style since Cooper Cronk left and they moved in a different direction to Brodie Croft.

My opinion - it means players backing their natural instinct on-field whether in terms of decision making or opportunities to score. The opposite is a regimented style. The good teams can do both like the Storm or we are seeing it now with the Broncos. It's good to watch.

For me, I enjoyed Cleary's coaching. He got the best from his playing group in the most. His press conferences (accept at the end) were positive and the press responded accordingly. While I did not like how he left the club, as a father I can understand why he did it. I just wished he stayed.

For me Cleary was the only coach in the last ten years who was able to get improvement from his squad. We had 12 wins and 12 losses for the season with Luke Brooks winning the 2018 Dally M halfback. And this was in a year where all the Cleary leaving drama had to have affected players at the back end of the year. I like the sound of playing a different brand of football. If it is more heads up, off the cuff footy it could go either way - brilliant and/or crash. But hey, years of block plays, hit ups and bombs haven't led to success, so I'm all for trying something new. One thing for sure, going by the keyboard punch ups happening on this forum, it won't be boring.
