Signings, Suggestions & Rumours Discussion

Gee some worrying quotes in there.

“Happy for them.” stands out.
I don't know why anyone is worried. "If he comes".

You compel him to come, and if he doesn't, you block him from playing for Parramatta and you do not pay his wages until he turns up to training every day and gives his best output.

And if he refuses to do that, you give him warnings and further suspend him without pay.

You apply to NRL for cap compensation for a non-compliant player and it costs you no money.

This is bigger than Tigers - NRL cannot allow a precedent where a player backs out of his contract because something changed at his new club. Of course we can understand that the player expected / hoped to have the same boss as he originally signed up for, but NRL clubs can never guarantee such a thing, especially struggling clubs.

And nobody can fairly say that IP and his advisors did not understand or could not predict that Madge was no guarantee to be the long-term coach.

But imagine if the NRL did permit IP to back out of his deal. It opens a Pandora's Box for any player to attempt to back out of any contract because of "something changing". Sure Head Coach is an obvious thing to be annoyed about, but once you open those floodgates, you provide wiggle room for players to request to leave for any reason "they changed the home ground", "they changed the training days", "they didn't retain my friend who also plays there", "the lady in the tea room isn't the same person" etc. etc.

It's already become worrisome enough with existing signings (i.e. people trying to renege on their deal whilst with their incumbent club), let alone to permit players to pull out of deals they haven't even started. It throws the whole signing process into jeopardy and introduces extreme uncertainty into salary-cap management, because you can no longer sign anyone in advance with any confidence.

And it is not reasonable to say "well you need to become a destination where people do not want to renege" because that will only increase the divide between top and bottom clubs. Bottom clubs need a clear and obvious mechanism to drag themselves back into competitive circles.

Not saying I want him back but at least Woods genuinely seems to regret his actions. I doubt Tedesco has ever had a second of regret or remorse.
To be fair it’s not hard to see why Woods would have regret and Tedesco wouldn’t.

Ex-Wigan Warriors star Jackson Hastings set for mammoth deal
Jackson Hastings is a name that is on everyone’s lips at present after taking the NRL by storm upon his return.
After almost four years in the UK Super League, the Australian halfback earned himself a deal back Down Under with the Wests Tigers and has impressed in a struggling side.
However, with Michael Maguire’s sacking – the coach who brought Hastings to the club ahead of the 2022 season – there have been question marks over where the halfback’s future lies with the Canterbury Bulldogs reportedly interested in bringing the 26-year-old to Belmore.
According to the Sydney Morning Herald, it is not only the Bulldogs that are interested with the Newcastle Knights also have had discussions about luring Hastings to Newcastle for 2023.
Hastings is contracted to the Tigers until the end of 2023, but his management are close with Newcastle’s recruitment manager Clint Zammit.
The former Wigan Warriors and Salford Red Devils man is currently on a deal worth $375,000 in 2022, but that increases to around $500,000 next season.
A cryptic Hastings post on his Instagram last week had left Tigers fans questioning whether the halfback would follow Maguire out of the club after being linked with a move away.
His post showed a photo of the halfback and the head coach with three shaking hand emojis in one last message to his former boss as it seems there is no shortage of suitors for the playmaker.
And, now Hastings’ new photos on Instagram have been met with begging from Wests fans to stay at the club.
Wests, too, are planning on putting a big contract under the nose of the former Wigan man, according to Fox Sports as well as fellow halfback Adam Doueihi and fullback Daine Laurie in a bid to warn off any suitors – from Australia and the UK.
It remains to be seen what kind of monetary offer it would be for Hastings given that it was a bit of a gamble for the Tigers to sign the halfback following a successful spell in Super League, but it will almost certainly be an improved offer.
Why wouldn't Hastings look around, if he is being pushed to lock so Brooks can play halfback, I would want out too. Every man and his dog knows Brooks has had 9 seasons to show his wares, and has failed, stop doing the same crap over and over adnauseam, hoping for a different result

When Douehi came from Souths he was bench player, that filled in at Fullback and Wing, however came to us in a fulltime role fullback. Basically he should be happy to play anywhere in first grade, and as he has come back from a major injury and its obvious his defence needs to improve, you would think the centre position would be ideal.
That's not true, Doueihi was half all through the juniors, he was too good for reserve grade, but souths were not going to drop Reynolds or Walker, so Doueihi was slotted in wherever. We signed him and said he could be our fullback for the first year and when Benji retires he will be our five eight, that is what happened

I wouldn't blame him. I wouldn't want to stay at a club that continuously rewards a player for 9 years despite barely being able to fulfil the minimum requirements of an NRL halfback. And that's being generous

While I've said he should backflip, he can't, legally. Good luck to him and Parra with this. Unless they have a few sure thing juniors (surer than Hayze Perham for a start) that they can give us then Pascoe better show some backbone.

Erin Clarke isn't a hooker?
He played hooker at 20s and for the junior kiwis.

I couldn't see the Titans taking both Liddle & Madden.

They've got Tanah, AJ, Sexton, Campbell - all halves options with AJ and Campbell also being fullback options.

Interesting article.

I think Jock is definitely on the way out with Sheens saying AD and Hastings are future club leaders and how much he adores Brooks... Madden doesn't make the cut.

Liddle is surplus.
Sorry Russ.

Api, Simpkin, Nu Brown and other young guns like Anjoul, Rua and my fav - Tannous .... can't forget Da Sylva. We got 9 options stacked.
Nu Brown is a 5/8 so if they do get rid of Brooks at least there is some one

Anyone know what the cryptic Instagram message was?

Surely we should have a sneaky enquiry with Garrick. He would be on about 300k at Manly as a winger. The form he is showing at fullback, you would easily throw double that him. He is really warming into the fullback role.

Good point mate.

I believe we should have a massive shot at Suliasi! Offer him fullback money now to move from KFC to us. He has a massive ego and playing on the wing doesn’t suit that. He has already stated he wants to play fullback and waiting for turdesco to leave or die, would be doin his head in. He has all the attributes of a great fullback.
Sneak in there now stroke his ego and steal him while we can, Timmy make him an offer he can’t refuse…

KFC is one of our sponsors now.
Yep do what ever it takes to get him or make it hard for them to keep him.

Was reading about Bevan French scoring 7 tries in a single match in the UK. I did not see too much of him when he was Parramatta, but he did have some good moments from what I recall. Maybe someone like this would be a good signing to add some speed to our backline. Still only 26 and won't cost a bomb 🤔
