If you think he was the best halfback in the comp that year I feel sorry for you.
He's played 11 first grade games.
It's possible we haven't seen enough of him to make judgements like this.
If he was half decent - He would have....
Brooks has as many detractors as supporters - Much like your man (And Tim Simona)
It's possible he's only played 11 games because he's garbage....
You also seem happy to overlook the fact that we got Hastings in - When we already had Madden.
Instead of squeezing 3 into 2 - We bought another one... To make it 4-2
Or maybe it's still 3 - 2, And Madden is off to discover his unbridled talent elsewhere.
He's stuck behind Brooks -
Never injured & never dropped.
His career won't advance in that circumstance.
What's Brooks reason for him never being able to control a game of go to another level ? Get the excuse book out - many to choose from.

Ask yourself why he’s only played 11 games. And don’t go with the easy answer that it’s because the club won’t drop Brooks. If Madden was half decent, other clubs would be vying for him. The only people who care about Madden are people who hate Brooks. They don’t even rate Madden, he’s just a pawn.

There’s not much to roast. He’s where he is for a reason.
Brooks being ordinary doesnt make Madden good.

This is harsh. I'd have no problems picking him in first grade.
The problem for Madden is that Brooks and Hastings are probably at their peaks whereas Madden is only young and can improve. Madden isn't an explosive player like Brooks so he doesn't look as fancy.
They just have different games.
Maybe a better example is Doueihi. Doueihi's defense is trash and he has a lot to work on in relation to his passing and kicking games. He can also take the ball under his arm and make a bust or score a try plus he can throw a great long ball and his bombs can be lethal.

In that light, "not much to roast" it could also be argued there isn't anything to praise either.
Because he is where he is.... for whatever reason... he hasn't had a chance to show his skills in first grade so he's an unknown.
He's expressed his desires and I'm sure his management is exploring options.
No doubt...
The point is one has had 180+ games to show that he's ordinary.
The other is a rookie... if he's good or not, remains to be seen.

Daine Laurie didn’t have a chance either, but he had a club come calling in us. If he’s that good, clubs should be going to his management, not the other way around.

He has had some chances and he has been okay. He scored a beauty of a try in first grade. He kills it in reserves.

Brooks has played in the halves ever since returning figures of 76-172

Maybe. That doesn't mean every club has it right. Madden reminds me of Luke Keary.
Put it this way in the right system he might do the job. In a good club with a quality running 6 and a big pack of forwards he might be able to lead a team around.
Put it this way there is no way I choose Brooks with a big contract over Keary with a less than 300k contract. That money could be better spent elsewhere.
I don't have the answers though.
We'll see what happens

im not sure anyone is choosing Brooks on a Million over Keary (who Madden is not) on less than 300K.
Their current contracts are irrelevant when it comes to team selection week to week. If we were looking to re-sign one for next season and those were the options, yeah sure Madden at the cheaper price is probably the better option.
Maybe the recruitment officers at all 17 clubs are wrong, and Madden is a star of the future. He is not showing anything at the moment to suggest he is, hence no contract offers and not being selected in first grade.
