Signings, Suggestions & Rumours Discussion

Wests Tigers have put an offer to Brooks management for $2.3M for the next 3 years including the final year on his current contract. Tiger for life.
Let's hope Brooks management rejects that.

It's a terrible contract for us and that contract is heavily inflated.

Brooks and Doueihi in the halves just doesn't work. Neither of them have a long kicking game.

It just beggars belief. Brooks is at his lowest ebb in his career. His confidence is shattered, he's a very pale immitation of the Brooks from a few years ago. Can he recapture his form? Maybe, but at his age it may be unlikey.

I'd expect his management to sign with another club for 2024 come November and then push for a release in 2023. So long as they communicate this to the club and we can plan accordingly i'm fine with this.

What is the latest contract details about Tommy Talau. Appears the forgotten person.

Played 35 NRL games but I think he has not played a game in 2022.

If he stays with WT is he still considered a back or has he bulked up and needs to be moved to Second Rower/ Lock in 2023.

Or Bench Utility - can play backs or forwards?

Seems about right. Given 1.1 for next year im guessing we put 500k of next years into this years cap given the space we have. Then we are paing Brooks 600k a season but also remebering 100k of that is the long serving player allowance which only him or Nofa are eligble for - so effectively 500k a year for Brooks is goid business

He must be 19 at best though. He'll have to come on like Nanai and the injuries are a concern. Look at Blore.

I think he looks much more like an edge backrower than Blore does.

If though Kautoga is considered to be an NRL edge player by the club it puts Sheens comments about Blore moving to the middle in context.
Yeah definitely a worry that he hasn't put many consecutive games together. Need some luck on the injury front here and we could see something special.

I really like this kid.

Hopefully he can put some games together and help get the flegg side deep into finals.

Like O'kane he has a lot of work to do in defence but that will come with time.

I have our edge back rowers in this order (Not including Matamua because he should never play on an edge):
1. Tumeth
2. Kautoga
3. O'Kane

If he accepts the offer, he gets some of it now in this year, prior to the new contract which is what the Nofa/Gildart move is about. He has to accept the deal first though
Thanks for the info @CloudyGlock .

I do wonder whether this is a tactic to get Newcastle to offer more than us for Brooks thus we won't have to add much more next season if he does depart.

High risk but maybe not if Sheens is happy for him to stay on that amount or depart & we resign Madden without paying Brooks too much more at Newy.

Tbh it doesn't seem like sheens rates any of our potential halves that much

Why not restructure his existing deal to pay him the 400-500k saved this year, reducing next year's payment to 600ish? That's a win for both parties, and worry about 2024 and beyond later.

Ok so by doing this we offset 500k shift before Nov 1 plus restructured his deal for next year at a lower rate then = alot more cash to spend on retention & recruitment.

That then brings his average year on year for 3yrs down to 600k roughly.

I'd argue the opposite. he keeps talking about how the spine for 2025 is currently in the pathways. Koroisau's and Brooks's potential contracts both finish up at the end of 2024. I get the feeling we're going to see an entirely different spine with guys like Da Silva and Galvin there when these deals finish up.

In March we were apparently chasing Francis Pele from Sharks for next year.
He's only young and a big lad. What's happened with him I wonder?

Also Angus Crichton would have to be a target again surely.

Bulldogs. Fitness is his biggest issue but he is one heck of a talent.
Wished we hit him harder and nabbed him. Would offer impact off the bench bigtime even for 10-15min spurts.
