The spoon

Well expressed and an accurate portrayal.

No offence to @Lauren as she seems to be a very nice person.

One of things that I have found uncomfortable about Tim is that after a year or so of advising all and sundry he wasn’t interested, after he’s put in charge of the coaching appointments, somehow he gets himself into the job.

I think he should have refused it and at least kept some semblance as to his own objectivism.

But by taking the position without any evidence of recent success, suitability or other compelling claim, my view is that he has let himself and the club down.

I am not suggesting the whole show has become a complete rort, but many are.

And when we wear the jersey, or show support for our club, it’s become akin to being considered as sanctioning or supporting a rort or being considered as a lemming, dope, loser or other type of rugby league outcast.

As the rest of the game moves forward, we are not standing there, we are jogging backwards.

My other concern, previously stated , was if he would still be GM of football operations as well as coach. Is he going to have enough time and energy to do both ( he’s no Vlandys ).
If not, are we looking to bring someone in to oversee the entire football dept. I have not read or heard anything about that so am assuming he will do both .
Does anyone have any info ?

Agree to disagree, which coach has done more to the WT? Maquire, Cleary, JT, Porter?
Based on our history, he was the only one that delivered, I certainly trust him more than this Footy show celebrity (now with the Puddles) that has done nothing for the WT.

I heard he was going to do both.

I’m not worried about his time and energy, I don’t consider him as old per se.

He will have assistants and so forth, but he will he will need to thread the needles with selections, game plans and the mental side of things.

What I object to is the abandonment of process on an unsubstantiated whim.

I am concerned that perhaps friendships and emotions have distorted professionalism.

That coaches with better claims were unfairly discarded.

I cannot claim that to be the case, but I am remain curious as to the private machinations of his appointment. Especially given his previous resistance.

100%, we always prefer improvisation ("I have that worm, fuzzy feeling") to the procedures & structures!

Good point.

But what gets me riled up is when say Lee has his public relations fiesta and starts belting on with his nonsense about accountability and process.

He raved on about this at the end of last year about the Madge Inquisition. I knew it was comedy then, but it’s become the fawlty towers of club pr.

And it seems we paid Madge out his half million dollar salary plus and coughed up more to Noddy to jag one single win.

That probably makes it the most expensive solitary win in the history of rugby league.

The shills are arguing that’s all part of “moving forward” and “ development” of an essential part of a “strategy”.

A “cunning plan” like Baldrick used to say.

Well I tell you, this so-called blessing that Tim is our saviour is fekking very well disguised.

I’ve never got personal with the board and officials. They just need to find a hobby away from us. Buy them that rubgy league game management fantasy game with touch AI so they think it’s real.

Flying so far under the radar, he is at risk of scraping his balls on a thistle.
I just find all this “strategy” and “planning” bullshit that people are so subscribing to ….to be very embarrassing for them.

I’m no fekking Mensa candidate, I get lost in a kids library, but this is baldrick material.

None of them should be allowed to do jury duty.

Denial is the new black.

Our Emperors wear no clothes.

It’s their right to hold out I guess, I have to respect that.

But I just don’t get why people fall for it.

It’s so obvious.

How can anyone believe the Wests Tigers have done anything good this year.

It’s been catastrophic.

I’m not even sure we should play next year. Take a season off, loan the players out and spare us the harm that befalls us fans. A years respite, early shower or what have you.

Regroup with a new board, CEO with Des as coach in 2024.

Lease the COE out to an organisation who can put it to good use. We’re not going to.

Rent it out to the Sharks or something.

I'm fine with winning a spoon so long as we can create star players in the next 1-2 years and sign them to another contract beyond that.

Let's be real. What we were doing before got us to 9th, and that was the peak of it. Our strategy was to sign experienced first graders who were on a dip in their career and try to get the most of those squads. 9th was as far as it could take us.

Now we are trying to develop our own talent and sign players with less than 20 first grade games. These are the teething problems you should expect when you completely commit to this route.

To me there is no difference between 9th and 16th. Coming last hurts your pride but realistically has little to no impact on the strength of your playing roster. Coming 9th is like getting a participation award.

Wrong.
When you come 9th you can still attract talent.
When you are 16th you are forced to develop your own.
This ain’t teething, this was incompetence.

Being fine with coming last, so is the Board and our High Officials. Not for me and hundreds of thousands of others. It’s called complete and utter failure. There is nothing whatsoever fine about it.

Making it conditional upon some kind of future miraculous act of God in the Land of Lee, trusting the people who got us into this mess to suddenly conjure up any star players out of nowhere it’s just remarkable.

The club telling its fans, members, sponsors etc that we are going to fail and be garbage (because we are developing) for the next 5 years under their watch is not only audacious but entirely unacceptable.

It is a complete and utter surrender, an abrogation of their responsibilities and duties to this organisation.

We didn't have to win the spoon to do that.

I've come to believe that getting the spoon is part of the plan, they can blame it all on Madge, it was his team, or so they say. I know Sheen's came out and said Madge had a say on every recruit, having a say doesn't make it your team, nor does Mr Gadget telegraphing to the world everyone we were after help. Madge, when given the opportunity got Papalli and Koroisau, arguably our two best signing in a decade.

I, for the life of me will never understand why we punted Madge without a plan, then advertised we were after Ciraldo. We looked like fools when he said no way, then we didn't rate the numerous (actual first grade) coaches who applied, only for Sheens to take on the gig and give Benji a 5 year contract. No other club would behave in this way. We make decisions like we are a small business and its the owners way or the highway, yet we are meant to be a multi-million dollar org with process and governance.

This year the club took something away from me, we've been cr@p for so long but at least when my friends who support real clubs like the Roosters, Raiders and Cronulla gave me hell I could always come back with "at least we've never won the spoon", not anymore

Is that why we have a legal eagle as CEO so that we always get a fair deal from the NRL because if it is it ain't working
Yeah, he met with Vlandys and they had a robust discussion. It was an appropriate step and I’ll concede Lee was right to call the summit.

But as a practical matter, we got totally smashed and our points remain in the proud possession and control of the cows.

Hence another very public failure.

I’ll excuse Lee on this occasion, other than to suggest that in the future, we keep these high level representations private.

That would have avoided us being humiliated by “Judge Judy” Vlandys. He is the Supreme Dictator of the game. Lee would know that.
