The spoon

Top all you do is talk negative shit
What positive talk can there be currently?
Our first grade side is arguably the worst we’ve seen in 23 years.
Our defence is still pathetic.
Our attack is still not good enough.
We have no half leader who can control a game.
Our reserve grade side is even more useless.
Our board are untouchable and completely incompetent.
Our coach next year is in his 70’s and hasn’t worked in the NRL as a coach in a decade.
We have no respect in the league world with the media constantly hammering us.
We have no respect amongst the refereeing ranks either.
We can’t attract outside talent, with marquee men, coaches and experienced players alike all turning down offers to join us.
Stars we already have are not jumping to re-sign and are giving the impression they may not, awaiting their fates in the coming WC to test the waters.
Our players we have loaned to other teams have shown interest in not coming back, talking up their new clubs publically.
Ex players continue to shit on the joint.
Our marquee second row signing has cold feet.
We are clearing the decks, but will likely have to upgrade young players not ready for the grind of NRL.
….and then after we struggle to stay off the bottom of the ladder for the next 2 years, then we have Benji to look forward to….
YAY….

I wish I’d said this, all of it true and he hasn’t even touched the sides.

I’m so fekked up by the grim outlook I’m looking at the QRL for inspiration.

Once we get flogged within an inch of our lives this weekend, I’m hoping that our mods can run a little side hustle of Burleigh Bears Forum. At least a thread here. We can adopt them as our QRL side.

Imagine following a competitive side that wins games? We won’t know how to conduct ourselves. More than likely, after so long in being flogged senseless by our board and officials, I wonder if we could come to grips with being succesful? I mean there’s no fear of that at the moment.

Once the Stockholm syndrome is gutted out of us, the Land of Lee is exposed for it is, what happens to us?!

Good night, forumers, execution awaits us this weekend. I’m going down fighting.

The spin we will get about all this:

- return of the second most experienced NRL coach
- our two best players coming in as assistants
- Brooks, Hastings and Douehi get a full season together
- SOO hooker
- Dally M 2nd rower of the year

But the truth is.. we will be favourites for the spoon for next year and we will probably win it again.

Of all the crappy seasons Wests Tigers have had, we always managed to avoid the spoon. Not so this season. There’s not much lower we can go.

Clubs fkd .. I hate the cnts

For he sake of sanity let's forget about the spoon and look forward to big improvements next season. No use crying over a spilt spoon.
Way ahead of you Newtown, I’m thinking the fight back and development of the squad has already begun.
The team is being prepared for creative footy.
It starts with finding news ways to lose.
I’m actually excited to see what they can think up against Raiders?
Can’t wait to see phase 2..new ways to WIN.

Unused cap can be transferred to next season. Go back through THE_POM’S posts, for a better explanation.

Phil Gould explains some of the intricacies of the salary cap

Speaking on his podcast Six Tackles with Gus last week, Phil Gould offered some insight into how clubs in the NRL transfer players to try and gain advantages in their salary cap.

“Melbourne Storm requested Josh Addo-Carr and let’s say I said yes,” Gould began.

“The process would have been this, we terminated Addo-Carr’s contract now and we sign a contract from November onwards for next year.

“He goes and signs a new contract with the Melbourne Storm and he plays for them.

"They pay him whatever they’re going to pay him but it needs to be the equivalent or more of what we were going to pay during that period.

It wasn't easy but I found these posts relevant to the cap situation.

The quoted parts are from @THE_POM :-

as Luciano was released in June under NRL rules we aren't required to fill his spot & don't have to allocate his money for the 2022 season, this can be rolled over into next years salary cap.

This is potentially good assuming it's true. I doubt that gives us much but it's better than nothing.

I doubt this is true in relation with Gildart and Nofo as I think Pascoe stated there was no cap benefit for these players.

Fans won't want to hear this but 2023 salary cap wise is going to be about getting it in an even healthier position for 2024, so the right kids can be kept & a chance to bring in the better players we need

It doesn't sound like we have any benefit on the cards yet but who knows what happens. I still feel releasing Luc was a dud decision and definitely impacted us getting the spoon this season.

It's good we are thinking of retaining kids. If we actually start producing some good kids we need to retain them. I think our juniors are looking a lot better but in reality we simply don't have a choice. We are coming last and having problems retaining our best players.

We are leaking players, and the big concern is we have trouble attracting players and coaches as we have found.
I think our major problem is that we don’t have a plan, we don’t know where we’re going. Our decisions are reactive. We think sacking people is somehow going to improve organisational behaviour and teamwork.
This is making it harder to retain and recruit because our story, our vision is unbelievable and the more we try to sell it the more distrust we develop.

It seems the club is being strategic and forward planning in terms of player retention and recruitment.

The use of the terms “strategic” and “forward planning” as they apply to the Wests Tigers at the moment should never be used in the same sentence.

All this planning, aforethought, prescience and strategy has delivered us the wooden spoon.

The worst team and the worst club in the NRL, this is who we are right now. It’s a disgrace.

We would have been better off this year, flipping a coin and letting destiny and have its way to make decisions for us.

At least that way, we might not have come dead last.

I suggest that instead of our highly paid board and experts having any influence at all next season, we simply flip a coin as to every major decision to make.

At least that’s some kind of defence against village idiots and imbeciles in command at the moment.

Mistake after mistake after mistake. No ability to learn, no humility, no concession and absolutely no accountability.

Strategy and forward planning = dead last, hopeless and entirely impotent.

We are a complete and utter basket case and I think there’s nothing to look forward to for the next 5 years at least. That’s the worst of it, the knuckleheads, Tim and GTA and co, mating it up while we suffer and are humiliated further.

To have the game at LO is cruel and inhumane. If any kids are brought to the game, child protection services should be called immediately.

I’m not bothering to listen to more club propaganda and this development nonsense.

The only true measure is actually winning footy games. It’s not rocket science and doesn’t need a thousand trumpets blurting away in advance.

Nothing personal etc against any board member or official. They should just admit they are not up to it and walk away.

I cannot recall a season before that promised so much to then literally disintegrate week by week till we reach this forlorn last home game at Leichhardt.
I and my clan will be there, but ........... it is surreal, a bit like an out-of-body experience where things team-related have happened and as bad as they are, there's nothing I can do to change the disaster before me.

I never insinuated to have knowledge of that, was merely stating I have no issues with us modifying our plans and understand why he's outlining the requirements (and roles) for the team, as it's essential to deliver change and drive accountability.
It is what it is and what's done is done.

I had high hopes and stellar ambitions for reaching 12th, depending on young Hastings and luck with injuries.

Jokes aside, have a great day.

Belt out a few “ low gutted dog” calls to the raiders players for me.

Give ‘em hell.
