The spoon

It’s not a conspiracy. It’s a result of failure and neglect for the past 10 years since Tim was sacked.
We just suck and have never worked out how to stop sucking.
This will take more than a quick fix to turn it a around.
The best part of being anchored to the bottom is that year by year the results gained have been contradictory to managements expectations of the squad.
Hopefully this is the breaking point for management to get out of la la land and stop making ridiculous claims regarding the strength of our squad.
In addition I hope they also tune into the fact that yes you need a deep squad to remain competitive however you need to put all your focus on your top 20 players.
It’s effectively counter productive to pre plan for failure of the top players through either form or injury.
Why do you need to spread your cap over 30 players when 95% of the time you will be playing naming the same 18-20 players through a season.
We used 33 players this season. Pre covid and hip drop you could almost get through the season with 25.

3 or 4 years of junior pathways and the spoon and now another 5 years of development, these kids will be 30 before they develop into first graders.

A 10 year lead in time, ffs, the First and Second World War were won and lost in the time it takes us to produce one good junior to play for another club.

Tim has publicaly turned pathways and the entire club ambition into a development or “trial run scenario” for the next five years.

Every loss and failure can now be attributable to “ trying” instead of actually “performing”

We have not supposed to have any expectations of being successful for many years.

I find this future surrender scenario to be objectionable and troubling.

For all of his shortcomings, Pascoe wasn’t telling us to suck eggs for the next half decade, hasn’t made the same quantity and quality of errors, didn’t agree to install himself as coach or select his mate thereafter.

Which is not to say he isn’t an part of the problem, but he’s pretty much a mercenary and stuck with putting out fires. He’s well paid and no doubt loves his job.

He’s got his giant gym, he can proudly stare at that for the next decade. What he doesn’t have is a competitive footy club, which I thought was the reason these folk were engaged.

I just hope he realises that the natives aren’t just restless, we want scalps.

I don’t make anyone read my posts or force them to accept my position on anything. What I say is my honest opinion. People can make their own minds up about the decisions made, the state of the club and where it is all heading.

My expectation is that people won’t be unduly influenced or form an opinion based on anything I submit as they can work things out for themselves. I give my view, try to entertain along the way and it’s a matter for the reader.

I am sure that on a personal level, the club leaders are quite decent people but I don’t think they are doing a good job whereas they do. I don’t wish them any harm or other nonsense. I just want them go and do something else.

Lees done some good things outside of footy such as taking carriage of that civil case against that pervert criminal Tyrone May.

Other people vehemently disagree with me. Doesn’t make them evil or bad people either. They can believe what they want to. That’s fine.

And another troubling aspect to our immediate future prospects - a lot of people seem to be forgetting that Benji and Robbie (unfortunately) were two of the most toxic people around at one point - a shame because they were also two of the greatest in their prime. But nevertheless, toxicity and condemnation toward our club were their parting gifts.

Throw in Sheens, who at one point was also heavily jilted from his exiting the club and it starts to look a bit ironic that these three amigos are teaming up to lead our club into the future.

Can you imagine if Benji doesn’t work out? He has a 5 year contract. If we have to cut him loose, is he going to bag out the club and retreat to the media again? Or will we just fall on our sword and finish another 5 years without a finals appearance?

Any fan would be forgiven for feeling extremely worried about where things are heading.

Good points brother.
Benji will work out if he has a good roster. He'll fall on sword if he has a roster like this years one...too many weaknesses.

Spoon well deserved to a team and organisation who needs to hit rock bottom and then find solutions to improve on and off the field.

Winning starts at the front office and then filters through the organisation
They can't strap the boots on though.
I feel the more you segregate the so called "front office" from the team the better. This is the first time for years where you hear stuff all from them.
Winning starts with a good roster with players devoted to success of the club and spport of their team mates and fans.
No more stupid media flops please WT.

Some excellent observations.

I’m worried about where we are and I am sure and certain that the outlook is grim.

Benji has no coaching qualifications at all, no management experience, no record of recruitment, hes functionality illiterate ( no criticism but it doesn’t help him), he seems to be a bit simplistic, he’s riding the wave of bloke hipster and media darling and at the end of the day was appointed based on emotion and relationships,

To his favour, he’s always looking cool in his expensive designer threads that he probably feels makes him a better person.

Im sure that he will present as very smartly dressed at press conferences with the latest west coast street gear from the ‘hood.

benji is gangsta.

GTA Camden Valley Way.

The story script is that Benji has just been released from Long Bay after being wrongly convicted.

Him and his girlfriend Sharon are on a mission to recruit Marquee players for the Wests Tigers.

It’s Benjis Way or the highway.

Sure it’s a long bow to draw however, I‘m blaming the spoon on the fans of the Hanshin Tigers for their curse spilling over onto the Wests Tigers.

After a big win In 1985 the fans of Hanshin Tigers stole a statue of Colonel Sanders from outside a KFC and threw it in a river… the Hanshin Tigers has been cursed ever since.

…………….
Sporting curses are always strange, but perhaps none is stranger than the Curse of Colonel Sanders, which has seen the Japanese baseball team, the Hanshin Tigers, suffer decades of poor performances after offending the spirit of the KFC founder.
Attempts to lift the curse have included fans apologizing to KFC store managers and making offerings to the statues of the Colonel outside of restaurants.
Titus O’Reily and Mick Molloy look at the Curse of the Colonel and another curse that set back Birmingham City decades, with the Nazis bombing their stadium, only for the National Fire Service to then accidentally burn the stand down a year later.

all we can do is back sheens, Robbie and Marshall to bring the club back.
A theory I've shared with some in the inner circle.....

Benji is an NRL golden boy.
The NRL love him... generally liked by the fans..
They always look after the golden boys.

The NRL loves a star and they love a narrative.
*Golden boy player becomes coach and takes struggling team to success.*
That's a ****ing narrative.

Our fortunes are about to change.

They froth South's and their lame redemption story... they love a fairy tale story line and there is none other more greater than what's about to happen with Benji and the Tigers.

Our time is coming!

I'm not confident but we don't have a choice. There also isn't some white knight out there that could come in and save us. It doesn't work like that.

Madge was a good option and I can't criticize his decisions unlike for instance Cleary's or Taylor's. The thing is Madge didn't work out.

We'll have to wait and see what happens.

There’s seems to be no choice under the existing governing superstructure.

But that doesn’t make it right and I’m not ready to forgive or forget until I start seeing the club command putting our interests first.

I don’t think my position is too harsh given the series of mistakes this year and the gleeful and questionable appointment of unqualified mates.

Tims dancing on Madge’s grave did not reflect well on Tim and I said yesterday, was unnecessary and makes things harder for us.

A bridge that should never ever have been burnt.

Disappointing to say the least, a low blow and Tim should retract his comments and publicly apologise. Especially since he took Madge’s job. No shame.

The RLPA has a part to play in the future of the game. The desire for the best players to only play at the best clubs will eventually see the fans lose interest in the game.
Winning all the time can become just as mind numbing as losing. The AFL has a draft because it keeps the fans engaged and gives them hope even when their club is going through a rough patch.
Expansion is the dumbest way to go if the NRL thinks fans will keep turning up to see the same clubs dominating with superior resources yet operate under the same rules conditions.
It may be a plan to cause natural attrition and if that's the case get rid of the salary cap altogether so the clubs wroughting under the rules have to meet the market and then we will see how many of their star studded line ups they can afford to retain.

Madge was in a road to nowhere

Where are the players he left to build a team around?

If we had given him the reins to recruit, we might have some Tony.

What has happened since he was butchered?!

I’ll tell you, something we never achieved under his watch, it’s called the wooden spoon.

Tim’s grubby comments was my major point. Heartless, unnecessary, disrespectful, self serving nonsense.

And Tony aside, for all of you shills out there, busying yourselves enjoying our spoon, you can’t quite resort to blaming Madge because it was your lot who appointed him at first instance.

So get his name out of your lying mouths, turn off your boom box and step off his grave.

Madge wasn’t perfect by a long shot, but he has more integrity in his fingernail dirt than the entire board and high officials.
