About 6 years ago Jason Taylor and Justin Pascoe decided that more focus should be placed on improving the culture of the players, rather than slapping together some buzzwords to form a mission statement.
They brought in a specialist consultant coach and facilitator, Shane McCurry, who had some success with a few AFL clubs.
It was decided that the team needed a leadership group of 7, they were. Aaron Woods, Robbie Farah, James Tedesco, Sauaso Sue, Chris Lawrence, Dene Halatau and Matt Ballin. Needless to say this didnt work all that well, but hey lets try it again a few years later? Why not?
Now i can understand that there are some fans who think all we need to do to improve is sign good players.
Have we not had some good players in the past?
Haven't we been covering a melanoma with a band aid and hoping for miracles?
It’s difficult to know what is holding us back, but it’s obviously something deep rooted into the club’s culture.Generational Players....
Once in a lifetime players - Never before, Never again type players....
Still couldn't make the finals more than half of the time (Even when it was 8/15 Chance)
I'm hopeful that the real issues are (or have been) addressed inside the last 10 years of failure...
My point has always been we failed more often than not - When we were considered good - Or a chance at least... And that is what needs changing.
Good / Great players come and go.... But there has always been an underlying something that we just can't get past.
Hopefully Sheens can do it (This time round) - I still think he was somewhat responsible for the rot last time round...

I have a feeling that it has been identified by insiders, which is more concerning, because they have either, tried to fix it and failed, or haven’t seen the sacrifice worthwhile and walked away?
Sheens will fulfill his contractual arrangements, and do well imo.
He’s made so many mistakes so far since he came back, I wouldn’t be holding my breath.Sheens will fulfill his contractual arrangements, and do well imo.
Its not easy to confidently predict his prime motive, but I do think he wants to know if he's still got it. He has been forced into a corner on a couple of decisions, so I'm willing to give him the benefit of doubt for now. The sacking of Maguire was imo not his decision. The board wanted him gone well before Sheens was signed on, It was Sheens who got him 12 more games, but you could also state a case that he wasn't ready for the fall out. He’s made so many mistakes so far since he came back, I wouldn’t be holding my breath.
I’d like to found in error, but so far as a matter of record, I’m afraid he’s been a part of the problem.
Hand in hand with the cadre.
Extremely disappointing to say the least. An “F”
You been on a little break LD?

I still can't get over the fact that we publicly went after Ciraldo and offerred him a 5 year deal in the media. We boasted about it, then we went and declared that Ciraldo rejected us because he's not interested in being a Head Coach. Then to save face, within 1-2 weeks we decided to offer Sheens/Benji the contract over a 'lunch time' talk. A month later Ciraldo signs a Head Coach position with Bulldogs.
Every single person involved with this fiasco is still with us and will be for a while. The scapegoats of this season were Hartigan, Madge and to a lesser extent Noddy. Next year, no idea who that will be.
Ciraldo is unproven which makes it even more ludicrous. He was never going to risk his career on the back of our current squad, and at a club that consistently fails to attract talent and then sacks the current coach for failing to get results. If they havnt taken the blinkers off yet about how this club is perceived they should all be kicked to the curb.I still can't get over the fact that we publicly went after Ciraldo and offerred him a 5 year deal in the media. Cracks me up - them "snack" boxes....
Should call them Heart Stoppers - They're hardly ever a snack....
I wouldnt say Hartigan was a scapegoat. There was something going on there, and his rivalry with Maguire had apparently reached an impasse. I believe they hardly talked to one another at the end. If I recall correctly there was some think in the media about a plane trip with the team and both of them there and it being obvious all was not well.I still can't get over the fact that we publicly went after Ciraldo and offerred him a 5 year deal in the media.
