Signings, Suggestions & Rumours Discussion

Wow Munster re-signed instead of leaving and coming to the wooden spoon Tigers?? Who saw that coming?
I’m not really surprised…

Pretty simple for some…

Build a club that good players want to go to & stay at.

It starts in admin and pathways. Finishes in high performance - too many clubs heavily focus on high performance without a strong pathway or admin support.

Think about it this way.

You’re an elite player who is smart enough to know that you’re only gonna be a footballer - that’s it (your only other employable skill might be day labouring). If your lucky your gonna play for 10, maybe 15 years at the top level.

What’s the decision you make:

  1. Play for a club that pays 10-40% less, know that you’ll be less likely to suffer that career ender due to making less tackles & clubs have a higher opinion of you.
  2. Play for the higher dollar, get pumped every second game and statistically lower your chances of playing longer due to making more tackles & opinion of you dropping.

Munster not coming of course not .It was never a chance and as I've been saying for months we have a serious image problem .yes top level players won't come near us thinking its career suicide .
Total recruits in last year 3 incl 2 really good ones signed in Nov 2021 .For all your faults Madge I am grateful you pulled that one off .Well done NOTE Papalii and Korisau signed before 2022 season even begun .Naden was also a handy mid season pick up. Those now in charge are batting zero so far but I'm not blaming Tim and Benji rather those running the show for years who have allowed our image / culture / reputation to sink to such depths

Not sure if this topic has been explored.

Oh was that the quote unquote going something like the following ?
“We’ve let him know we are interested, we haven’t talked money and we don’t know if he is interested but we advised him that if he wants to talk we will ensure we match his best offer”.
Sounds like a strong pitch to me.
Problem is that we would need to do a lot better than matching his best offer.

Im so glad that Melb miraculously just happened to find a spare $4 Mil that they didnt realise they had .. Im sure Melb will make a statement today saying that the rest of the players are taking a pay cut to allow Munster stay at the Storm .. !!

Maybe the NRL auditors need to find that second set of books at Storm HQ again .. !! ;-)

Maybe they should check his garage to see if there’s a new Jayco caravan in it.

Would be good to nab Sloan if he ever gets a release from the Dragons - seems like they have a lot of unhappy players there

The no-show from 27 of the top 30 NRL players at Tuesday night’s end-of-season club presentation at Pyrmont’s Doltone House speaks volumes to the narrative that St George Illawarra is an unhappy camp.

Why would Munster or any other top elite players sign with the Tigers or any other perennial bottom team . Don’t take it personally , it’s more about choice. Great players can get good money playing for good sides, so why play for a crap side.

In saying the above, I think the Storm will slide a tad over the next few years till they rebuild their pack.

Also I am not convinced Munster is the guy you break the bank for. Great player, but not sure he would drive culture and change. Anyway back to the bargain bin and the pathways road, don’t know why we even bother fishing for big fish
