Signings, Suggestions & Rumours Discussion

The Wests Tigers thought they were facing a fight to keep Daine Laurie at the club after they were told that the Bulldogs were interested in the fullback. It turns out they were being spun a line.

I like Laurie and I think he'll be much better with a more aggressive pack and in-form halves. It's no coincidence he improved when Doueihi had more control later in the season. He's not much of a creator of a fullback, he needs space to have impact.

BUT, which club besides Dogs would be dying to buy him? There's very little chance for him to improve his price unless his manager can create the illusion of competition.

The Pom certainly feeds the good info- much appreciated.

From what he's come up with & the subsequent threads that followed:

Klemmer adds starch. Our forwards have routinely been overrun. Klemmer should help with that. Momentum on the field is huge & we have regularly lost that battle. Coupled with Stefano, Joffa, Twal up front, and Papali'i & Bateman on the edges- you start by winning up front..

Additionally- Klemmer is a 2-3 hitup per set type forward. If you are playing Hastings at 13, you need someone to pick up the metre gaining slack..

Bateman adds attitude. If he's slipping as a player, what he brings off the field is still useful. He'd be warming the seat for the likes of Blore to take over in time.

If the Tigers take the field with Klemmer, Bateman, Blore, Stefano, Api & Papali'i as additions to last year...this is the biggest turnaround in quality in the NRL in terms of forward packs.

Brooks has only been praised by Sheens/Benji. He's their guy. #6 is up for grabs. Hastings looks likely to be 13 or even 14. Douiehi..doesn't seem like a priority. Laurie getting a look at 6? It will be interesting to see what direction the club goes here.

Clearly the young players coming through are the BIG signings of our future. I think as a fan base, we need to realise that our 'best players' might already be on the club's books- just not necessarily in the top 30. I'd say by the end of 2023-beginning of 2024, we might have 5-6 new faces coming up from the juniors.

Interesting times.
Plausible thoughts there.
Liked where you were going.

I love the positive post. The pack might do the job, Hastings at 13 on the field for 80 minutes at lock changes the players you need. I think the best part of Brooks and Doueihi game is their running games. Our wingers are likely to get good metres and score tries. They are slow but their hit-ups are quality.
And you can run with 4 forwards on the bench with Hastings a back up 9 if needed or 3 forwards and Talau

It's no secret Sheens likes some pace in the halves (who doesn't?). I don't think we'll see Hastings/Doueihi much. Sheen may say how he wants Brooks now. If we can convince a good halfback to join us (I doubt it), we'll see how true that is.

Yep , Laurie needs to learn to hunt. During the 2nd To 4th tackles he needs to be sniffing around the forwards for an opportunistic offload like Tedesco & Papenhausen do. Surley someone in the coaching staff sees it & can teach him to do it.

Well, he does it a lot. He had one of the highest support stats in the comp. Just not very good at it.

21 Years old plenty of time to make a play at NRL.
Was a name that was mentioned.
Sorry Joe Batchelor is 27 years old - he will not be coming to the NRL as he has just signed a new 3 year deal with St Helens.....Morgan Smithies, on the other hand, is 21 years old (Wigan) and a much better player. He is the player we should be looking at (Victor Radley type player).
The other 2 players I would get would be Mikolaj Oledzki and Jack Welsby.

Agree on both. Oledzki is big with great leg drive. I have heard really good things about Welsby, but haven't seen much of him.

I'm relaxed about Hastings and Doueih. We have them for 23 and if they move on we will have the players to replace them. Doueihi I'm sure is on a good deal with his current contract and Hasting would have been offered a fair contract. Let's concentrate on those who want to be at the club.
Lets concentrate on players who will make the club better. Hastings should be priority because he's our only halfback of the quality required for the NRL
