Newcastle are prepared to release their two most experienced - and highest paid - forwards in a desperate bid to spice up their roster for next season.

It's been well known for some time that player of the year David Klemmer doesn't get on with coach Adam O'Brien and is available to rival clubs for next season.

But Wide World of Sports has also learnt that the club is shopping around powerhouse former Blues Origin and Kangaroos forward Tyson Frizell to rival clubs.

The Knights want to move the pair on and bring in some new blood to freshen up their squad.

They remain in the hunt for Tigers halfback Luke Brooks who is at the top of their shopping list.

The Tigers are interested in Klemmer but have rejected the idea of a swap with Brooks.

Brooks seems certain to sign for the Knights for 2024 and the Knights are then hoping they can negotiate an early release for next season.

Potentially he would be a good acquisition, the issue I have is - Would we buy another has been?
Our acquisitions of "established players" in the last 10 years is arguably the worst in the NRL🙁
 
We need a big body up front, Klemmer fits the bill, Frizell does not ,and like the retired Fifita is on one leg in a battered body. I worry about Hastings as well, for a reletively young man ,he appears to hobble around the field ,maybe only a minor injury,but the club would know.

But having said that .....I think the NRL should come out and tell all clubs that the team outside of Qld who finishes last misses Magic Round the following season ...starts creating competition for clubs in the bottom couple to fight to get off the bottom

Great initiative. I’d suggest starting it in 2024 though 😜
 
I know we need another edge backrower but if Frizell is as busted as Johns reckon i think i'd prefer Bateman. But if we end up with Frizell on a 2yr deal i wouldnt cut my wrists either.
Looks like there could be plenty on offer if we decide to deal with Brooks this year, the rumour of the Penrith backup half doesnt fill me with excitement if that was true. Would have been much better served keeping Madden.

Nofoaluma is our oldest player - Until Api gets here...

We need a couple old heads - Frizzell played Injured all year...
Get that right, He'd be our best back rower (Outside Papalii)
If he was here last year - there would be daylight between him and everyone else.

The Knights players we shall consider are Ponga and Saifiti, and we have the bargaining power!
So instead of has beens like Klammer and Frizzel, we shall offer them a swap: Nofoaluma, Seyfarth and Brooks for Saifiti and Ponga! The offer they cannot refuse, if they realy want Brooks!
