Signings, Suggestions & Rumours Discussion

None of you are being real !! You’re in a vacuum consumed by your own negative thoughts .
Being real is accepting there’s a shortage of nrl halves . There’s no brett kimmorley waiting around in Newcastle reserve grade in 2022.
Brooks has speed and skill , and a good not great long kicking game , and a good short passing game . He can create for his outside men with his speed .
He definitely lacks confidence and game management at times and goes into his shell .
That’s reality . The whole reality . The nrl whether it’s tigers , knights , cowboys, warriors raiders etc have decided the negatives are far outweighed by the positives . That’s the reality . Kick and scream all you want . None of you live in reality . You can repeat yourselves over and over and over again on these threads it’s not going to change it . It’s embarrassing to read constantly to be honest .
Well said.

He's good, not great & he never will be great.

Unlucky for the Tigers because this is who current coaches and many before have put their faith in.

But but but people are commenting on Facebook that the wests tigers great Jackson Hastings is the best player in the word....
I don't think that's it.

I think some people are very upset with Luke Brooks and are thus upset that Tigers would consider letting Hastings go rather than Brooks. It's an anti-Brooks thing rather than a pro-Hastings thing.

Anyone who does think Hastings is a good halfback - well Brooks only had #7 on his back 7 times in 2022 and Hastings had it 11 times. So Hastings was our primary halfback the first year we ever won the wooden spoon. That's not to say Hastings can't be a good half in the future, it is to say we played him there and we were terrible.

Therefore the idea of someone suggesting that Newcastle are proving us to be amateurs - I find that laughable. The Knights who are allegedly desperate to get their mitts on either of the two preferred halfbacks of the wooden spooners (doesn't matter which one). Only Newcastle fans could possibly be happy with that, to pitch so low.

Personally I am not fussed if either Hastings or Brooks are let go. We came last in 2022 - it can only be a rebuild in 2023. If Sheens has his mind made up about certain players, so be it.

Personally I also believe Sheens sees Hastings as a ball-playing lock (this has been reported in the media enough) and I am guessing Hastings is not on board with that, that Hastings sees himself as a halfback. I think Hastings was swarmed too often in 2022 once oppositions realised how often he touched the footy in the halves, but Brooks still did most of the kicking, so it was all very predictable.

Bugger-all assists too: Hastings 7 try assists, 4 LB assists in 16 appearances. 0 tries, 10 goals. Brooks was 10 try assists, 12 LB assists, 2 tries, 13 goals in 17 appearances. So if Brooks is abject rubbish, Hastings' measurable output was arguably worse in 2022.

So I still think it's a long-term anti-Brooks thing.

Dont read them if your honest with yourself...If Brooks goes into his shell then maybe 900k as an NRL halfback would be better served to someone who can stand up and do his job and lead HIS team around the park...
I think you and him should consider mixed beach volleyball on a Sunday afternoon...less stressful for both of you,,,,

Lol I think you’ll find this isn’t my fist day on the forum mate . Despite what the login says .
I have defended him the last 10 years . Well since 2016 I think . Then I deleted my account . I had a fair bit of cred too . But despite all that . My opinion is just as valid as anyone’s even if it was my first day . Which it isn’t .
It’s a bit sad to be gate keeping that to be honest .

Ah that's right. You're the moron who said Brooks was suffering from "football anxiety". 🤣🤣🤣🤣

I think we can put you in the "insufferable dumbass" corner of the forum.

Haha 😄 I'll never be embarrassed to share my opinion on here. Just because you have a different view on thing doesn't mean I should change my whole opinion and never post about it.

Pretty disturbing you feel as though people sharing there thoughts on the local Junior we have aho has never played finals could be seen as kicking and screaming 😱.

Exactly . But there’s no great half coming through anywhere either . Madden was his generations Aus schoolboy half . And he just isn’t up to it . And I don’t think he ever will be. I hope he kicks on and gets a contract and ends up a chad Townsend type late bloomer .
You cannot go into the nrl with 2 slow players as your halves . Whilst AD deludes himself , and kills his market , hastings like sooo many before him eg. Rangi Chase , is an excellent reserve grader / SL half .
So you have to go in with a good not great half , because all the great ones are playing for 4-5 clubs .

After watching this morning's game. George Williams would be a major major upgrade on Brooks. Bateman was good too.

But geez I love what Herbie Farnsworth can do on the footy field. I'd make him a marquee offer and let him play fullback which he's stated he'd like

Haha righto mate, let's have a look:

Jacko plays 11 games at half:

3 wins
0 tries
176 team points scored
6 forced dropouts
6 try assists
2 linebreaks
21 tackle breaks
1410 running metres
303 PCM
5 offloads
178 tackles
20 missed tackles (90% tackle efficiency)

Brooks in 17 games (7 at half, 10 at 5/8)

2 wins (0 @ half, 2 @ 5/8)
2 tries (0 @ half, 2 @ 5/8)
226 team points scored (84 @ half, 142 @ 5/8)
7 forced dropouts (1 @ half, 6 @ 5/8)
10 try assists (3 @ half, 7 @ 5/8)
3 linebreaks (1 @ half, 2 @ 5/8)
22 tackle breaks (7 @ half, 15 @ 5/8)
1258 running metres (512 @ half, 746 @ 5/8)
236 PCM (96 @ half, 140 @ 5/8)
11 offloads (8 @ half, 3 @ 5/8)
402 tackles (157 @ half, 245 @ 5/8)
75 missed tackles (27 @ half 85% TE, 48 @ 5/8 83% TE) 84% overall tackle efficiency

Looks to me that Hastings is a far more effective halfback that Brooks, and Brooks best football is at 5/8 which is what has long been said by many. You can pro-rata all his halfback stats to get the 11 game average for him and Hastings still outperforms him, sans offloads.

I know you're going through the stages of grief about Brooks potentially going, but the team is a better attacking outfit with Jacko at half. The results and stats this season say that.
Quoted for relevance.

Hastings does more than Brooks as a half. If anything Brooks benefits from playing alongside him.
