Juniors - Pathways General Discussion

Great that Herman is still around. I like that our middles/props coming through all seem a little different in build/style of play. A lot to work with moving forward.

It really must be a QLD home issue with Dotoi if he doesn't return. Will be a shame not to see him back.

Interesting that out of all the QLD recruits from last year, the least talked about player was the one who ended up with a train and trial this year (Tempest).
The other two only joined in January last season too. They both signed for more than one season but whether the slowly slowly approach for the others is so they don't get too homesick and can acclimatise to sydney gradually?

Tempest was the only one who stayed in sydney without returning to qld (at least no extended stays back in qld) after sg ball finished, so perhaps we was rewarded for his commitment and also had more exposure to the broader nrl squad. Although he played centre for wests he was always more of a back rower. Not a flashy player, but a solid and reliable type.

Bruce Ward - joins from Blacktown Workers Sea Eagles NSW Cup. 22yo prop stands at 191cm who had an impressive finish to ‘22, running for over 100m in 3 straight starts.

Kienan Tempest - Fmr Aus u15 Schoolboy brought down from Marsden High in Qld at the end of ‘21. Played for Wests SGBall this year in the centres then finished ‘22 playing for Camden after the completion of the junior rep season.

Livai Saukuru - big bodied centre who came through the Balmain junior rep system. Made his NSW Cup debut in ‘22 while also an accomplished goal kicker. Not to be confused with ‘23 Wests HMatts Livai Saukuru, who is the brother of Lomi (NRL Top 30) and Solomone (Wests SGBall)

Luke Knight - scored 12 tries in 2022 jumping between fullback, halfback and five-eighth for the Roosters JF side who made the prelim final. Smaller stature but good speed and feet.

Aitasi James - Joined WT from Parramatta in 2022. Impressed with his size, power and work rate in the front row. Arguably outplayed a number of T&Ts who debuted in 2022.

Ben Houston - New to rugby league and joins from Randwick rugby, where he was captain. Known for his leadership and defensive ability and work rate.

Kade Hill - ‘22 WT JF captain and halfback. Fmr Keebra product who has played the last 2 years in WT JF after joining from Tweed Heads. Won the u18s with Tweed in a team featuring Brendan Piakura, Toby Sexton, Reece Walsh and Xavier Coates.

Jordan Hill - Fmr Holy Cross Ryde sprint champ & 100m/200m record holder. Started ‘21 in WT JF before injuring his ACL. Spent ‘22 at Mackay Cutters. Undoubtedly one of the fastest at WT.

Great to see Kian Edmed (Steve Edmed's son) signed to Balmain. Have seen this kid play at school boy level (for Trinity) against heavy weights such as Waverely College and was a standout. Talented 5/8.

Was hoping Tane got a cap ahead
of Donaldson this year. Good luck
to little bro, can't wait to see him
in the lower grades keep it in the fam

What body shape and speed is tempest . What position do you think he might get to play in cup

Reminds me of Bodene Thompson in a way. When younger was compared to a a David Stagg type forward.

He'll mostly play Flegg this year I imagine. There will be a combo of Blore, Talau, Kautoga, Tumeth, Webster Mansfield ahead of him for Cup

Tempest played in the back row for Wests in the final round thumping of Manly. He and Dotoi were on the same edge up against Feledy. Both made numerous breaks.

Tempest was always spoken about as the hardworking type, while Dotoi and Cathane were more flashy players. Tempest could potentially become our Fulton or Halatau, Sheens and Benj love those types. will be interesting to see where he gets game time next season.

Came from kebra ay?

It actually is a good question.
Unfortunately as it stands NSWRL retain all the rights to the content and the broadcasting / distributing is to their discretion.
Though they don’t cover all the games. A good question would be if WestTigers are in any position to source a dedicated media firm to provide fans with any content from the juniors outside of the NSWRL contract.
Either full games (not shown on NSWRL) or players to watch highlights or snapshots, training content, game highlights basically anything not covered that may be of interest.
With 2 rep teams divided by 100 or so Kms it makes it very difficult to watch all the games in person at the grounds.
I asked Wests Tigers and NSW RL this year and neither wanted to help and just referred me to the other. Even tried the guy from Steal sports if he knew who to contact. Id pay as small fee to get live/replays of these grades.

Possibly, but Roosters look to be the most likely with their gun players in their second year of Matt’s like ours were this year.

We’ll still be very strong again though.
Hey KR are there any good young halves coming through our junior system in the next few years.
Cheers
