Pinned a couple of nice flatties around the weedbeds and mangroves this morning and topped it off with three muddies in the pots on the way back. Couple of cold ones and a good feed. I love my backyard.

Pumicestone ??

That's the one Happy.

Do you mind asking where you are at Shaggy ???

Pelican Waters Caloundra Happy. From reading your posts I'm guessing you might be up this way as well.

Gladstone ....I grew up fishing Rainbow Beach ,Double Island Pt ,Fraser ...most amazing beach fishing I ever experienced was at Moreton Island ..back in the 70's of course ....

Stupid question ...do you have a WT's number plate ....

No mate, not me but I have seen a 4wd all decked out in WT colours and logos getting around the sunny coast. Don't know who owns it. Might have to follow him home one day.
I fished the Rainbow Beach fishing comp about 10 years ago. Great weekend and great fishing. A bit jealous mate, you wouldn't go short of a feed up your way.
I fish out near Morton in the winter. Great snapper, pearlies and parrot. Always plenty of action.

Yeah thats the reef about 9 mile off the north of Moreton ......

Has anyone done much fishing in the Woronora river ? A new area id like to try.

What's your bait of choice for estuary fishing???
My dad was a great angler, he said to me once, check the guts of the fish you catch and see what they're eating.
When I was at Ballina, Richmond River, I couldn't catch any bream at my fav spot near the oyster leases. I managed to catch a flatty though and when I cleaned it I noticed several little whitebait in it's guts.
I packed up and went to the Bait Shop to get some for the next day. I noticed they had pks of fresh white bait so I got a couple.
The next morning I rigged up light tackle with the whitebait and drifted past the leases on the runout tide.
I caught 4 big keepers and threw heaps back.

New hobby for myself...only started this year, got hooked after turning my guts over on a deep sea charter and have loved it ever since

Still preety bad tho, my knots need a lot of work still and im still learning as i go

Looking forward to having my first flick in ages this saturday, might give parra river a shot using some lures, see what turns up
A uni knot is the second strongest and easy, and fits nearly all occasions. The double uni knot for joining lines is basically the same Loook for Paul Worstling on the net, he is very good.

Fresh mullet and squid, 8 to 10 pound leader (5kg). Make sure hook tip is exposed, and do a simple hitch over the bait to stop it sliding down, and the lightest sinker possible to get to the bottom.

Pumping yabbies of course ...or live mullet if you are looking for something bigger ....back doesn't like pulling sand worms anymore ....not getting any younger ......if you can get live prawns they are a good bait

I enjoy catching bait as much as I enjoy fishing and catching fish ...learn to use a cast net ...using fresh bait is the key ...you can get a good quality 8 foot net for around $100 ...pays for itself many times over ...same as a yabby pump ...about $100 easy to use ...kids love grabbing them as well ...saves my back/hip lol

Wish I could get away with a 5kg leader .....fish a minimum 25 pounds up here .......

For Da Boss, If you have just started, these are some tips. Graphite rods snap easily, do not high stick them,( check the net for info,) or you will learn quickly. Set your drag at 1/4 of line breaking strain. Tight lines means winding in line as you lower the rod to the water, never lose tension on the line , or you will lose fish. With whiting don't strike if rod tip quivers, they are just mouthing the bait, wait for rod to bend, or better still leave rod in holder and they will hook themselves.
After fishing tighten drags, hose down rod and reel, then wash rod without reel in warm soapy water and rinse. Spray reel and rod guides with inox, avoiding fishing line, and your gear will last a lifetime.

Some very good advice .....keeping your gear in good condition is very important .....the big one quite often gets away through lack of patience .....lack of timing and gear failure

Best my of advice I ever received was don't try and cast out past the breakers ...we proved that point recently fishing for whiting ...weren't getting any bites on a perfect morning tide ...slow retrieve and hooked up within 5 metres of where I was standing ......we ended up fishing in a 20m square area getting hook up after hook up standing within 2 metres of each other ...crazy how it works lol .....even got a legal dart maybe 3 metres from where we were fishing lol ....

You must be in reef country to need 25 pound, in an estuary. Lucky bugger!
No ...just big fish country ...lots of wharves etc ...can be fishing for bream or grunter and nek minit dirty big jewie is circling your boat and your ducking with rod under anchor ropes etc ......big salmon ...barra anything

Have bream spots where 2kg bream aren't uncommon ...got a 48cm bream at one particular spot where the average length are around 35 cm ......obviously it is only for maybe 6 weeks a year when you get the big sea bream run ...but it's crazy night fishing in a crazy area ...we literally follow the fish in between a gap in an island at the mouth of Gladstone harbour .....

I'm at the Sunny Coast and fish the Pumistone Passage. Pretty much only use lures these days. Been getting some great flathead at the moment. Also love casting small poppers for whiting on the sand flats.
Mate took me outside last week after Sandys. Put down 8 pots off Bribie Island and bagged close to 60 legal crabs. Love a feed of Singapore chilli crabs.
