Signings, Suggestions & Rumours Discussion

rts this year burton next year
We are getting lost in all the euphoria, we all agreed the halve were our biggest problem, after the forwards. The forward problem has been addressed, the halves at the moment are still up in the air. Yes i expect a better performance, with a new pack, and new coaching style, but the same problem still exists. I hope we do not extend contracts, unless on field performances warrants it !

Which is a terrible position to be in. Look at the top 8 sides, you can pretty much pick their lineups because some players are better than their backups, and that's how the cap should work! First team players are stars, on bigger money. Backups are lesser known cheapies. Having 8 players of the same ability on the same money gets you nowhere
If forwards play to potential this year, our spine and outside backs will have a lot more opportunity to show their wares and prove whether or not they belong. Interested to see it unfold.

As one of the regular pessimists of this sub, I can say I am pleasantly surprised with every decision we've made innthe last 12 or so months. Even the Madge decision. We should significantly improve next year, and the foundation should be set for Benji in 2025. I feel very confident about where we're heading.

It just feels like we've made correct decision after correct decision for a while now.

And just so I'm clear, I really just want to get excited about our players again, and I feel next year we have too many good ones to not be excited about.
All started with regaining credibility when we hired Sheens.

With both halves off contarct, plus both full back options,u can bet they will all be putting in thi coming year.
Suspect only one or two of this 4 will be retained, but it is contingent on who else we can attract with the $2mill plus which we are paying these guys atm....
RTS,who is 29 btw,wld be a proven option at around $800k...same $$$ for george Williams if we cld nab him.If Laure cld play 6....theres our 2024 spine

Caught up over Christmas with extended family, a couple of them work in the scg trust and deal with the clubs that play out of there fairly regularly. As always passed on the juicy rumours, Roosters are working hard to keep Manu and Sualli and not so hard to keep Keary and Tedesco. Seemed fairly confident that they'll be looking to offload Keary after this season whether it's medically or to another club will be the only question to be answered there. He said the squid games thing really dropped Tedescos status with some in the club too they weren't happy with the way he handled the situation. Was certain he'll play out his contract and then move on for Sualli to step in like they did with Minichello years ago.

Nothing else came from the chat that affects us, he was mostly talking about the waratahs and how much the super rugby has lost fans etc. Gets a few beers into him and can't stop talking about how rugby ruined a good thing 😆

luke for luke

No it makes no sense to me because you have said both "management are having a crack" and then complaining that management did not take the NRL to court, which I can only assume is not having a crak. So I can't follow what on Earth you are talking about.

But don't bother trying to explain it, because I fear you'll just fall over your own words again.
Not sure where you heard me ‘complaining that management didn’t take them to court’, that never happened. I supported management taking a stand and challenging the NRL publicly as they did, hence MY analogy of ‘having a crack’ (not yours) and supporting the team. Plenty read it, only you don’t get it. I don’t know dude, maybe it’s your arrogance getting in your own way?

Whats the squids game thing?

The signings we have made will bolster us for 2023 , players who were already hear will benefit greatly , my tip for break out players will be
Klemmer , Signed and will be strong up front
Pappi , same again will thrive and have a great season
Staines will pressure Laurie
Bateman , will lead by example and create steel in others

existing players
Joffa , held his head high in 22 now he has some solid support he will go very well in 23
Brooks , I know people will say no but he has a lot of good players around him they will prop him up early in season and then he will klick into gear

great signings by the club

I don't hate anyone. This protecting this bloke from criticism is what's had the Tigers going nowhere for 10 years, why is Brooks above criticism he provides nothing he's the only half I know that constantly kicks in to blokes legs.
As soon as you criticise him, I hate him and am a bully. Give me a break. In the NRL he would just scrape into the top10 halfbacks in the comp. He provides no leadership, no spark in attack, he needs to up his game or needs to be shown the door.

Indeed, based on the past couple of years, Brooks may "just scrape into the top ten halfbacks in the comp". Certainly not ideal, as we want and need his form returning to amongst the best.

WT are though trying to sign Moses, who is playing at that level and has been for few seasons. I always rated him as being slightly the better overall of the two, even if he goes missing more often and seen very much as a "flat track bully" type.

We must remember that without his current great Parramatta forward pack, Moses was copping as much criticism as Brooks is now, when the former led his team to the spoon, whilst Luke was concurrently performing at the upper level. Regardless of whether Mitchell returns, let us all watch how both perform behind decent pack in 2023.
