Signings, Suggestions & Rumours Discussion

The figures i have read have put him around the 750k mark,on his raiders form that is ok but on his ESL form that is way overs. Also i have large concerns over a 4 year contract as he has left his last 2 clubs early (Raiders and Wigan) and like us Raiders had to pay a transfer fee and got nothing in return.
His purchase has very concerning vibes imo
Yeah if it's 3 mil over 4 years it's a lot, hopefully Sheens can get the best out of him.

Interesting, you could be right. I keep thinking Tom Brady who played till his 40's.

Mitchell Pearce got punted from the knights at 31 years of age and his performance there was better then Brooks here (IMHO). DCE/Cronk ofcourse can play till they are 32 Johns was 37...

Mitchell Moses though is too physical as a 7. Maybe you are right he will go till he is 32, but he doesn't play that Cleary/DCE/Johns nor even Thurston level smarts... Moses runs hard and plays the line more.

BTW I don't want Moses back due to history. I have no problems with him leaving our club but we can leave him alone. Aside from that, unsure how he will be in 2-3 years and can't see him gelling with Brooks magically.
I'm the same we need to draw a line in the sand, I'd be on to George Williams.

Finnzo, you are spot on. Sheens said 2025 was the target to have the side ready for Benji ,that was realistic. Yes we have bought well, but we still do not have 13 quality players. The Dogs have bought well, and will challenge, Parra will drop a little, and the usual top sides are still ahead of us by a fair margin. I think we are 5 players short of a good side, and in the next 2 years we have to produce or buy these players. To do this requires smart planning, and money in the bank , and cap space. There is an urgency on the forum to buy, buy buy, but we could end up again with a crap roster in 2025. Baby steps are required at the moment.
Dogs are overrated to be honest. Their missing a halfback and lack in front rowers.

We are half a dozen in players away from being in the top 8 let alone being premiers. The premier's will be one of 4 teams again per usual. 2025 when Benji comes in hopefully we do have a decent side because there are so many teams just making up the numbers.

My point exactly....

He's done nothing to be trumping (Or taking the shine off) any of the other players that have left.
His sample size in NRL is so small (and so poor) It's barely worth typing his name over
....... and over (And over)
Kids got potential, I'd be outside my mind to think we'll be talking about him this time next year because he's just had a killer season in the NRL.
He has impressed Sheens to be promoted to the Top 30. That is a tangible achievement at his age. The remainder is your opinion.

😂😂😂😂

A coach with around a 40% Win rate,
And a Player with not much better win rate
- Who played 90% of his career in a team noted to be defensively poor,
suggests to me neither would be a lock to teach anyone anything about defence.....

Reality just isn't your thing..... Is it?
You attack the credibility/record of the coach because his opinion is not consistent with your own view.

Mullins, Daley, Stuart, Clyde, Lazarus, Walters, Marshall, Farah Prince - among a host of players. Those names might be familiar to you.

Mitchell Pearce's performances have never been better the Brooks. He has consistently played worse then Brooks while having much stronger players (forwards in particular) around him.

He is the most one dimensional halfback to have a long career the game has ever seen. Brad Fittler at over 40 completely embarrassed Pearce at training one day. While training as a defender, Fittler predicted every move Pearce was making and either intercepted the ball, knocked the ball down or easily covered Pearce and his outside runner. Apparently it was very embarrassing.

People think Pearce is better then Brooks because he barks orders, but his actual play is pathetic.
First I have heard of this but I don’t doubt it truth at all

The predictable personal attack on me.
Becsuse at least 99% of the stuff you say is just rubbish. You’re either praising Sheens (who the fans do have a right to question his methods and style of coaching since he’s only got less then 50% win rate) or just praising the kids who haven’t proved themselves yet. Matamua has potential, but he hasn’t replaced anyone in the team. Kid played 2 games in first grade last season and showed he wasn’t ready.

If my maths is correct, we have spent ~$6M on our top 10 players for 2023 (based on reported figures). That leaves a further $6.1M on the other 20 squad players, an average of ~$300k per player.

If say 10 of them are on minimum salary of $120k then that leaves ~$1.8M left in our salary cap. More than enough to fit in MM for 2023.

Of course, the salary cap is never as cut and dry as that with some contracts weighted differently each year but since back-ended contracts are no longer approved by the NRL it's a fair supposition.

Now, if MM is not released early and we have to wait till 2024, AND RTS gets word that he won't be in the All Blacks side for this year's world cup, THEN we could fit him in for 2023 with a frontloaded contract.

It's fun to speculate but not out of the realms of possibility...
