Signings, Suggestions & Rumours Discussion

If I remember that tackle, I think it was possibly the first time we saw the hip drop in action - Mannah on Taniela. I was at the game, but way too many beers for a clear recollection. My apologies to Tim Mannah if this was wrong, but I would love to see the tackle again.
It was Ben Smith

Interesting analogy 🤣
I can imagine Lee out the front of the court house doing a press conference and the media asking him questions if his client is innocent and Lee's answer would go something like

The defence team all know he is guilty the public know he is guilty we have all seen the many many videos of the murder but we are entering a plea of not guilty believing if we say not guilty enough he will get off I rest my case

There will never be a capitalist paradigm where all parties have the same purchasing and selling power, even under ideal starting conditions.

The salary cap was never intended to equalise the salaries of top players, nor equalise the appeal of all clubs. If that's what you hoped for then you've totally misunderstood how the salary cap operates.

I argue the salary cap does indeed force clubs to pay market value for players - the players themselves will accept no less. But "less appealing" clubs have to pay above market value for those same players.
Spot on! I imagine the less appealing clubs would also have a similar struggle with signing sponsors who may be needed to sign TPAs with players?

as some have said in the past, it is not fantasy football my friend.. zero chance of a cobbo and Ken M swap
More chance of Demps or Hobbo becoming Brooks number supporter than that happening 😉
I agree. But I still think either Kevie or Cobbo is gone. Maybe we give them 2 wingers? Lol

Does anyone here think MM is mature enough now to come out and say "I have unfinished business with the club, the way I left last time wasn't a true reflection of me or my character and that's why I have decided to come back, and I want to help this team build something special" - IF he signs?

I don't. It feels too easy for him to stay at Parra and I reckon that's what he is going to do.

I like Douehi too, but he has a hide asking for 900k considering he’s done bugger all so far in his playing career. Start playing well consistently and we might consider it.
Why does he have a hide asking for 900k? In 2021 he was our best player by miles and he's playing alongside a bloke who has done anything for years who's getting paid $1.1 mill in 2023.

If I was Adam, and I had to play with Brooks getting paid that much, I'd be doing the same thing he is

I reckon AD is delusional asking for that money. He has never been a consistently good player.

Why does everything have to be about Brooks as well. It's over the top.

Combo or Farnworth would be great at fullback if we could make it happen, just don't think Brisbane would want big Kev.
Can we send them Nofo lol
Cobbo doesn’t have the voice to play fullback. Watched him play fullback for Wynumm and he either can’t pass or won’t pass.

What I want to know about the mitchell saga is there has been reports he was unhappy at parra. Media mentioned last year there is no way mitchell signs for parra. Weststigers podcast mentioned they think mitchel is unhappy.

Was this just all a beat up?

I think that AD, whilst obtaining his recent Uni degree, has made the mistake of many marketers in basing $ on fractured data.
Brooks is overpaid based on performance/ delivery but if AD is using Brooks as a guide to his worth then he’s using the wrong data but in this crazy NRL world someone may well offer it.
Just look at Reynolds for $750k Pa, totally wrong but based on the perceived need, at the time, for a marquee type player. Only problem was that he just wasn’t. So what happens around that, players start aligning their bargaining around fractured data.
Private enterprise bases its salary justification on a) the role and b) the perceived ability of the person to deliver desired results. The better you are at what you do, the more money you can demand.
But first you have to consistently show how good you are, before you can entertain such thoughts.
If AD starts to really deliver this year then he will get his money but until that time you can only pay him on his output, which up to now has been spasmodic, good at times but mediocre in others.
The clubs should only offer what they think is their optimal position. Money and contract lengths both come into play and we are starting to do that now.

I reckon that "culture problems" is generally just a lazy excuse for below par training ethics or on-pitch performances.
But, I do think there is something quite ugly about the culture up at Red Hill.
The young stars appear to run a muck, and the "powerbrokers" seem happy to let them get away with it.
Wayne Bennett would have this team absolutely humming at this point of the preseason and the Donkeys would be short odds for the flag.
Kevvie just seems like a substitute teacher out of his depth and probably won't make it past the halfway mark of the season.
I don't see the Broncs making the 8, despite having a roster that could/should do so with ease.
Here's hoping it all falls apart because there are a few blokes up there that you'd climb over your nan to sign.

I would say that he also has unfinished business at Parra than at the Tigers. Just lost a Grand Final...

It's like any workplace though. If you are doing your job as well as or better than the next bloke, and said next bloke is on double your salary, you'd be asking for substantially more coin

Brooks is the example because he's the highest paid guy at the club.

everyone has an agenda. could be an effort to disrupt the playing group or push a player's price tag up. also brings rival clubs to the negotiating table. I personally doubt Moses is unhappy at Parra, unsure what the podcast boys think.
