Signings, Suggestions & Rumours Discussion

For whoever is watching the Penrith vs Parra trial.

I really like the look of Jesse McLean will struggle to crack there squad and looks polished as a prospect could be
The other winger is decent as well, young played SGball last year. Even Jenkins is decent. They’ve got it right over there.

For the price it would cost you want that player to own a position and contribute to winshares.

I think for the price tag he would want playing RTS as a center or winger would be a waste of cash. It’s fullback or nothing from my view.

Don’t see Welsby leaving them.
I have not seen Welsby being as good as dane,
really think with the new forwards he is going to have in front of him we will see a lot better attack from him.

Josh Hodgson looked terrible today.

A bit of bad service to Moses and it might help make his mind up next week
Agree but he’s in that situation of returning from a longer term injury. Will improve with fitness, a bit like Talau. They need time on the field.
I’ve tried to stop thinking about Moses, what will be, will be.

Not true at all.
The structures are the blueprint for how we defend, what shape to use, who makes the calls, line speed levels, understanding which shoulder to use in each instance, A+B defender responsibilities, wrestling etc….
What I saw the other night was individual players running out of the line, chasing the ball runner across field and not trusting the men either side of them.
Irrespective of the talent difference, we had no shape and very poor communication. I would be surprised if our best 17 had these structures when that lot the other night didn’t, considering they have all been training together for months.
Expect the Raiders to get their bonus points win, lose or draw.
Tucker - that is exactly my take on what I watched also. I just want our teams to defend with intent and structure and generally just working hard as a team. That has not happened for a very long time.

It’s funny how many people claim “it’s just a trial” when we lose.
The Bunnies and Saints use their trial to decide the yearly Charity Shield winner.
The World Cup Challenge is a part of this years trials
The NRL has dedicated prize money to the team who performs the best in this years trials.
Fox Sports are broadcasting every trial live.
It’s old fashioned thinking to state that these games mean nothing and it is loser mentality.
I would have said the same had by some miracle had that side won

But maybe we should have picked a better side .....lets approach the Roosters about treating the Federation Cup game as a trial each season

My point still is this look at the side we picked .....we weren't obviously concerned about winning ...were we ??

Obviously we weren’t and that’s depressing.
The top clubs attempt to win every contest they are in.
We don't have a 14 million cap ...we have strengthened the side but we still lack depth ...proof ...Thursday night

Look at the back up 6/7 for Warriors ...Metcalfe carved us up in 2021 in Rocky and TMM is a good quality 6 ...we would empty our shorts if they were our back ups ...wouldn't we ....I reckon there back up 1 outplayed Bula as well

Yeah well whose fault is that? We’ve had no recruitment strategy for years.
Lately we seem to have enacted some sort of plan, but our top 30 is a house of cards. The bottom 10 or so of our top 30 are no good to us this year.
I put together a thread on our positional depth a few weeks back and it was fairly glaring. More so now.

Sure. And we select a better team in a trial, one of them gets a season-ending injury and you see if we should be trying to win every game.

We should be trying to win every game that means something.

It was a trial, with mostly young guys wanting to impress thinking they need to stand out - hence defenders running out of the line, no shape with the ball. Clearly nervous teens trying to look good playing against a better team.

We were never trying to win, it was about putting those young guys into an occasion they have never had before so if they are called up later in the year they will be less overcome by the sense of occasion because they have played at a game in a big stadium, against some stars with a few people in the crowd before.
