English club Leeds is considering making a move to sign rugby league's most under-siege player, Tigers halfback Luke Brooks.

Brooks comes off contract at the end of the season and has yet to come to terms with the Tigers for a new deal.

The 28-year-old has struggled in the early rounds - but in fairness to him so have most of his teammates - as the Tigers sit winless at the bottom of the NRL ladder.

There is strong mail coming out of the UK that Leeds may have a look at Brooks for next season.

Luke Brooks leaves the field for the Wests Tigers after loss to the Canterbury Bulldogs at Commbank Stadium in 2022 NRL season.

The Rhinos' halves pairing - Aussies Aiden Sezer and Blake Austin - are both coming off contract and the club may look in a different direction.

While Brooks has found the going tough in the NRL in recent seasons, the more open style of Super League may suit him.

The Tigers are unlikely to stand in his way if he decides on a change of scenery as the move would free up a large slice of their salary cap - money they could throw towards the Eels' Mitchell Moses.

Brooks is earning $1.1 million this year from the Tigers.

🙏

I think Brooks would be happy to stay on his current contract of just under $800k per season, rather than uproot his family to the UK.
THE_POM posted some time back, that Brooks is happy to stay and we could expect a 2 year contract extension announced very soon.
Money talks...

Money talks...

It does.....
Dogs just paid 500k to sign a kid (On top of signing him) that's a fair indication of the Market and what halves are worth.
A ressie half is 4-500k, And Elite is 1.2 plus....
Broad space and not many players in between...
Interesting to see how it all plays out.

Super League has a marquee player allowance - Each club can pay one player, Whatever they like....
Is why we don't see many of them here - Despite having a better cap.

I know nobody wants to listen to favourable comments about Brooks, but he provided some hope for us late in the game. He started all 3 movements which resulted in those 3 late tries.
The game swung our way when Klemmer and Utoikamanu came back on after the last drinks break.
What we need is another Klemmer. He was great in the middle.

I can’t tell if you’re being serious or not. But Brooks was not responsible for the first try as he passed it to Tupou who started making the metres and passed to Naden, then Wakeham starts running into the hole he sees Naden passes it and Wakeham gets through. Brooks did come up in support and score the try but he is not responsible for us scoring that was Wakeham.

Second try Brooks passed it to Wakeham who draws them in and passes to Naden at the right time for him to advance and Pole comes up in support and Pole scores. Brooks may have passed it to Wakeham but Wakeham once again is the reason why we score.

Last try though Brooks did have a hand no argument on the last one, but Wakeham is the reason why we managed to come back to only lose by 4. If Wakeham didn’t play we may not have scored in the second half at all.

Early ball anyone?

Look, you are partially correct. No Wakeham no completion of the tries.

But try and see the forest from the trees.
When was the last time Brooks had a sweeping halves partner able to position themselves for support.

Wakeham was good.
But the key was he was available and an option.

2 of the 3 tries came from early ball from Brooks.
The last one came about because of the first two, defence suspected another early ball and fell for the dummy.
In the final play we attempted a reverse of the third play where Brooks was on the opposite side of the ruck with Wakeham on the right, Wakeham overran it just.
But what would have benefited in any of those late game movements was having Laurie sniffing around the middle as an additional option.
Unfortunately Doueihi couldn’t get there so I would be surprised to see Laurie he brought in around the same time agaisnt Melbourne to take advantage of the run of play.

I saw it differently, but that’s ok.

Pretty much correct and if you are seeing different then you are not watching. You could give brooks some credit for staying alive in the play and backing up for try 2.

The first try Naden’s intercept, was coz Kepeaoa gets up and puts a bit of a hit on King as he is passing the ball and the ball travels forward towards Naden.
Just wanted to give Kepeaoa some credit for working hard in D.

Hello fellow sufferers,

I watched all the games last weekend, paying special attention to the number 7's.

Every other halfback in the NRL plays first receiver for 2 -3 tackles, passing the ball onto a forward.

Every other halfback then passes the ball to the 6 on play for the "attacking play".

Every other halfback either kicked or was in the vicinity of the kick by the 6 on the last tackle.

Every other halfback was influential, ran the team, ran the ball and was very vocal.

Our halfback.

Plays outside centre.

Thank you, Bubba

This is the old “bacon n eggs” question.
Was Brooksy the pig or the chook in those 3 tries?

I agree but it should be recalibrated-

“Any west’s tigers fan that has a clue about football” … would’ve wanted to keep hastings at 7 and let brooks go to Newcastle.

Others are fans … but with zero idea…

To keep a failed halfback after ten years thinking that he might come good, is stuff discussed in crack houses with people who have no teeth
