Signings, Suggestions & Rumours Discussion

I find it extremely ironic and completely Wests Tigers like that we let go of the only organising halfback we have had in 10 years (Hastings) because apparently he is too slow and then trust placed in Brooks. For us then to enquire about Mitchell Pearce who is older and slower than Hastings and probably more expensive.
Older yes but not slower. Hastings wound up to full speed last weekend and got overtaken by a tortoise.

Look at Newcastle this year in recruiting Miller and Hastings. Newcastle wouldn't be particularly desirable but they had the smarts to go after 2nd tier players who make their squad better rather than our approach of throwing big dollars at players who aren't interested. They're not going to win the premiership but you build on that and can probably attract better players on the back of that.
I will point out to you that on the weekend Miller let a bloke score in front of him by defending the dead-ball line.

Cronulla supposedly looking to lock up Hynes on a long term contract. We should be topping anything they could possibly offer and them some. Even go as far as life after football. Why did we not look at him before?
We did, but he had a thing with Craig Fitzgibbon.

Halfback - George Williams or then Chad Townsend (experience & direction)
Five-Eighth - Blake Taafe or then Luke Metcalfe (x-factor, speed & goal kickers)
Fullback - William Kennedy or then Nick Meaney (experience, directional & good defensively)

Benji was meant to be a lure for players! Cmon man, you were you a good negotiator on Celebrity Apprentice, now apply those skills to recruitment!

I also don't like it when women objective me. I was smoking a ciggie whilst eating a double big mac and I didn't realize my gut was falling out of my pants and a group of young women started whistling at me. I felt dirty.
You probably were dirty, special sauce on your hoodie.

Doueihi probably took notes. Point taken about him but my point is that he's not necessarily a top tier player but he's better than what they had and they're building on that. He has speed and effort at least and he'd be playing fullback for us if he was here.

One thing I will say is Hastings isn't starring at the Knights either - 1 try assist and 1 break assist in 5 games and they have beaten only the bottom 2 sides us and Raiders
I don't think Hastings is a bad footballer. I personally would not have released him. I think he is a better footballer than Brooks.

But he is slow and his attacking output is really low. His best attributes are he moves the ball around the field and gets a lot of touches, and his long-kicking game is alright. His goal kicking is unreliable - they keep having Lachy Miller take shots.

And the slow thing is a big deal - once teams figure out they can pile on the halfback without much fear of a quick run, they will continue to turn the screws on the halves, knowing they won't get beaten on a run. It's the exact opposite of guys like Walker or Adam Reynolds, who are really small but they threaten with the ability to kick short or run, which Hastings does not.

My prediction is that Knights are gradually worn down by teams that don't fear their attack and who keep shutting the halves down.

Knights' biggest strength is their forwards and backs are actually pretty decent, pretty competitive. Definitely big and strong and they run some lines. When Hastings looks out, he will have players like Best, Gagai, Fitzgibbon and Frizell on offer, Dom Young is a huge physical presence, especially for kicks. Hymel Hunt / Marzhew also pretty decent wingers.

What's your point?
Newcastle managed to get a comp point against Manly.
I'll be interested to hear how you think we will go against Manly.

I'm not really disagreeing with you, just that Miler has some real howlers in him.

The truth of it - I believe the Tigers think they already did sign the middle-tier players, guys like Joffa, Pole, Naden, Laurie. I think Tigers were hoping the higher-tier guys would take the team to a new level, but instead the best players are playing middle-tier and everyone else is playing horribly.

My point is that so-called "middle tier" players can have howlers, and also unfortunately, are at a decent risk of falling away entirely. To not know where your deadball line is... I mean that could be a one-off, but I can only imagine Tigers fans if Doueihi or Laurie did that - I can't recall every seeing anything like it.

Knights had 4 shots at field goal and a conversion right on FT to win the game, couldn't get any of it done. I think that match is really one that the Knights let slip away, especially when they let in 3 tries in 10 minutes late in the game, when they should have closed the match out.

Unfortunately it's a very low bar to set, though I can understand the comparisons, when you look to Newcastle as a better strategy for Tigers to emulate.

Adam Reynolds doesn't have much of a running game at all. He's the best organiser and kicker in the league though which makes him immensely valuable. Hastings basically gives you about 75% of what Reynolds does, which is still extremely valuable.

Souths won the comp and came close on multiple occasions with Reynolds at halfback. So the idea that your halfback needs to be an attacking threat or fast isn't entirely accurate. Hastings is definitely good enough to lead a team to the finals at 7 and could probably be the 7 on a contending team if he had a good enough 1 and 6 around him.

I just don't see the point in banging on about how bad other players are in other teams.
To say, well we might be s__t, but hey look at those guys...they're s__t too!
As bad as some may be, at least their team has won at least 1 game.
