Signings, Suggestions & Rumours Discussion

Adam Reynolds doesn't have much of a running game at all. He's the best organiser and kicker in the league though which makes him immensely valuable. Hastings basically gives you about 75% of what Reynolds does, which is still extremely valuable.

Souths won the comp and came close on multiple occasions with Reynolds at halfback. So the idea that your halfback needs to be an attacking threat or fast isn't entirely accurate. Hastings is definitely good enough to lead a team to the finals at 7 and could probably be the 7 on a contending team if he had a good enough 1 and 6 around him.

I sort of agree with you but you are underselling Reynolds. He has the ability to create and that is partially because he can make a bust himself. He threatens with the ball and runs a good line and draws players in and then can make the pass.

I rate him really highly though. Great little player.

I think it's pretty obvious we should have kept Hastings but I don't think he is anywhere near the level of Reynolds.

We must be seeing different things. Reynolds takes runs all the time, he's always keen to step back inside the defence and take a run. He did it to us on the weekend about 5 or 6 times.

2023 Reynolds already has 5 try assists, 3 line break assists, 5 forced drop-outs. 2022 he had 19 try assists, 15 forced drop-outs and 6 tries.

Hastings so far has 1 try assist, 0 LB assists, 0 offloads, 3 forced drop-outs. 2022 he had 7 try assists and 7 forced drop-outs the whole season. It's not even close. The year Reynolds won the comp with Souths he had 17 try assists and 18 forced drop-outs.

I do agree you can have a fairly average controlling halfback in your team and still win a comp. But you sure as hell better have a Darren Lockyer or a John Thurston as your other half, otherwise you'll get diced. Tigers unfortunately don't have that other half to support a Jackson Hastings type.

I just don't see the point in banging on about how bad other players are in other teams.
To say, well we might be s__t, but hey look at those guys...they're s__t too!
As bad as some may be, at least their team has won at least 1 game.
I don't think anyone's bagging on about it? I was just making a point that it was a very bizarre thing to see on the weekend. You guys asked me to elaborate.

Sounds like we're about to let Laurie go to Parra. He's no great loss but still probably our best fullback.

If we do let him go, who are we actually bringing to the club that upgrades the position?

This seems like Hastings all over again.

Wonder what we get in return if it happens.

I'm not really disagreeing with you, just that Miler has some real howlers in him.

The truth of it - I believe the Tigers think they already did sign the middle-tier players, guys like Joffa, Pole, Naden, Laurie. I think Tigers were hoping the higher-tier guys would take the team to a new level, but instead the best players are playing middle-tier and everyone else is playing horribly.
Eels forum reporting Laurie to join them after our clash on Monday..considering he seems to support all other teams except ours, in the words of Gus show him the door NOW

I will point out to you that on the weekend Miller let a bloke score in front of him by defending the dead-ball line.
I did that once in touch footy…seeing that on the weekend brought up past trauma. Quite embarrassment 🤣

On a serious note, Douehi just let the player come to him for the first try, only metres from the tryline. Might as well have been defending behind it!

I would rather they took Brooks and AD,Laurie is not going great but he is going better than Sheens pin up boys

Having Laurie is often like not having one. He is better than Douehi but won't really be missed.

Sounds like?

Where is that coming from?

Hastings was much more influential on the team than Laurie. He also didn’t like opposition posts on Instagram and actually galvanised the team.
