Halves

Btw anyone wanting to have this debate - I would think most rugby league journals and afficionados and westst tigers supporters other than the board and football department … would all agree that we would be in a far better position if we kept Jackson an would say that he is a MAJOR reason the knights are going well compared to what most people thought

And they would say he is MILES ahead of brooks.

Not 3/10 to 4/10… but miles
He is miles ahead of Brooks. If Brooks is 1/10 then he is 2/10.

Miles ahead haha. How? 1 try assist? He organised the team. Where are they on the ladder? Are they top 4? No. They are bottom 4.

Anyone can have a opinion but back that opinion up. Why is he better? Be a funny read.

People carrying on about Hastings being the saviour. Spare me. I'm all for free speech but im still waiting to see any real evidemce to the statement.

Is the distinction within our attack being caused by the halves alone ?
I know when it’s not working it certainly appears that way, but halves are only as good as their ball runners and options created by their ball runners.
I think back to the Raiders trial and from memory we had Keparoa and Blore as our edge forwards. In that game nearly every run either when they received the ball or as a decoy was off the back fence, since the competition started we have had Papali’i and Bateman mainly being from very flat starting points when running onto the ball.
So is this the fault of the halves, the ball runners themselves or the coaching staff ?
If you watch every NRL game, so many line breaks and tries are created from hard running edge forwards who either make the line breaks or score tries themselves, get an offload on the back of strong hard running or create a try or try scoring opportunity from their hard running decoy run.

The halves are atrocious and Sheens is to blame.

Had all off season plus final 3 months of last season to find a game manager.

Was arrogant enough to think he could change Brooks.
Unfortunately as noted by most our halves (whichever one you want to name) are not dominant halves wanting to take on the game. None of our halves get the ball first off the ruck to direct the team or challenge the opposition.

Whoever they select in the halves from the available players will continue to play the way they have in the past. It’s just not in them and there needs to be change, but that’s unlikely till next year, if we can find/convince someone to sign on

He ain't no saviour/premiership winner but he's a damn site better that Luke Brooks
That's the issue. Douhie, Wakeham, Brooks and Hastings are all bottom 8 or reserve graders. Do we want to go for top 4 or do we want to be 2-5 with a halfback that won't win a premiership?

Every half we have including Hastings from last year should be gone.

Start fresh

Works both ways. Could we be worse off with Hastings?

Yes it does, but from my perspective I have an issue with the halves timing, direction of running and he way they pass the ball early before the line. The defence slides so easy against us because they don't get the defence committed. If a half doesn't get hit after he passes the ball then he isn't running it deep into the line enough.

With Hastings we would be 2-5 instead of 0-7. Conjecture of course, but if you happy with 2-5 then ok. For myself I remember when Packer,Reynolds etc was brought here to bring us to the finals at least. Look how that went.

We need to think top 4. Which is 75% wins at least. That's all we should think about. No idea where the two halves will come from. Not from here though

We need a marquee half and a marquee fullback. One of those would be great. Those players are few and far between and it's going to be basically impossible to recruit those players.

I think we'll have to develop those players and until we do we won't compete for the comp.

That's probably right but there's bugger all good halves in the comp right now. You keep the decent ones you have. Hastings is above average , Brooks is below average in my opinion.
It's like the coach, you sack him if you have a better one lined up.
We replaced Hastings with Wakeham and Madge with a bunch of [This word has been automatically removed]tards.

I agree with that, but it still doesn’t answer why we currently have our edge forwards consistently so flat and very rarely steaming onto the ball ?

Our development is not great. How do you develop a half and keep him from being recruited form the roosters?
