Signings, Suggestions & Rumours Discussion

Blake Taafe or Connor Tracey to partner 1 of the first 3 guys listed - at that point we have something to work with.

Tieg Wilton and Scott Sorensen are off contract at the end of this year too - would be good for our team.

Halves
Aiden Sezar - end of 2023
Mitchell Pearce - end of 2023

Shaun Johnson - end of 2023
Blake Taafe - end of 2023
Drew Hutchison - end of 2023
Connor Tracey - end of 2024
Braydon Trindall - end of 2025

Forwards
Tieg Wilton - end of 2023
Scott Sorensen - end of 2023

This. Two year deal + mutual option for a third. He's still playing at a high level and gives us the half that we desperately need. Also gives us more time to either find a long term replacement in our juniors or sign an off contract star half.
That would be ideal .
Ice would be so dangerous playing outside of him.

Dragons board/management are the worst in the league (yes even behind us) don't let the media fool you, Hunt and the club are extremely offside and the only thing holding them together is Griffen. Hunt was lowballed 700k for his extension (500k pay cut) and didn't take that great esp with the raised salary cap, they did come together and agree to a figure closer to 850k but there's a bit of heat between both parties. The fact no one turned up to the clubs presentation night speaks a thousand words.

They're pretty close to bringing Shane Flanagan to the club and sacking Griffen and when this happens expect Hunt to go and Kyle to come in - with Amone, Sullivan and Kyle to fight it out

Hunt took a meeting from the Dogs late last year and is keen to stay in Sydney as he's raising his own family and just bought a property too.

Add an extra year and match his salary and he'll come imo - he'll be 35 by the end of the 3 year deal which isn't bad at all, for anyone questioning his skill set go watch SOS game 3.... get it done

Yeah we should go and sign mitchell mosses or Cameron Munster. Oh wait that’s rite no tip quality player wants to come to a struggling club

Letting go of Hastings was a huge mistake but we need a player like chat he led cowboys to a prelim 6 months ago he still had what it takes
Letting Jock go was the mistake
Not knocking the Dolphins but I'd wait until they play out at least a full season before passing judgement on their 2023 results. Same with Warriors, I am entirely unconvinced that they will be able to maintain a standard that entrenches them in the Top 8.

Already for Dolphins, I admire their fight and competition, but injuries are (predictably) starting to bite and their 3 losses have come in the last 4 rounds. Also, the manner of some of those losses raises some concerns - a 38-12 loss to Dragons and 36-14 loss to Bunnies - those are routs. Tigers have only lost 1 game by a comparable margin; but we didn't get the jump on anyone in the early rounds.
lol mate they are 5-3 and just set a nrl record for a fight back.
Didn't he give WT the old 1-2 when he left for Panthers? Something about moving on to become a better player?

When asked what made him think he was a better chance of playing centre at Penrith than at the Tigers, Momirovski said: “Just the internal conversations you have. There are also good people here around me who can help me get better as a player. Some of the allure was being around people you’re comfortable with and who you know can help improve you.”

For the first time in many decades there are a number of extremely talented young halfbacks currently plying their trade in SL. I've already stated that Lewis Dodd is a freakish talent but there are others including Harry Smith at Wigan, Mikey Lewis at Hull Kingston Rovers and Will Pryce - who will be joining the Knights next season. Lewis is the most off-the-cuff and instinctual of the group. Quick, elusive and with a real competitive edge that would instantly make him a fan favourite. Smith is the most structured with a superb kicking game (which doesn't fall apart under pressure) and fast hands. Dodd has the strengths of both with an outstanding organizational brain, freakish self-confidence and a defensive game which makes him very difficult to target as the weak link most halves can often be. Pryce is the son of Leon - an superb full-back and stand-off who played many games for Great Britain. Of all of these he is unquestionably the most dangerous runner - particularly in broken-field situations where his explosive acceleration and foot speed terrorize defences. He lacks the organizational brain of Dodd and Smith in particular - but when you are that athletic it's far less of a problem.

All of these kids are between the ages of 18 and 20 and have many years of production in front of them. Whilst Dodd, Lewis and Smith are all under contract it should be possible for a clever recruiter to broker a deal providing the SL clubs are being reimbursed with appropriate value. Obviously money talks. But money isn't going to fill the void left by them leaving. Top halfbacks are incredibly rare and the selling clubs will find it difficult to replace such talent. I believe the trick would be to devise some kind of deal which would see any transfer fee supported by young talent going the opposite way. The NRL has a huge production line of extremely capable young players who often struggle to break into the first team because there are no slots available. Eventually they become jaded and disillusioned with playing lower grade football and drift out of the game. If some means by which such talent could be sent over to SL where they could gain first team experience and develop over a year or two before returning I think it would be possible to create a mutually beneficial relationship between the NRL and SL. Because simply barging into a SL club with a wad of cash and cherry picking the best talent without giving up something in return is just going to annoy the clubs and make recruitment that much more difficult.
Do you think we'd be a realistic chance for either of the organising pair in Dodd or Smith with a hefty transfer fee or would we need to offer a player as well? The only player I could see make the move who we have under contract is Nofa unless Starford T'oa would be keen.

Someone of experience can then play 5/8 - Mitchell Pearce, Connor Tracey or dare I say it Luke Brooks.

Taafe is worse than Wakeham. The Chad is not good, last year was an anomaly. May work if you have an absolute star 5/8 outside him.

I think the only option is to offer Ben Hunt the world. Seems to be the only top line half that may be restless at this club.
Totally agree that last year was an anomaly for Townsend. Sharks fans had been hating him like people here hate Brooks for years prior to that.
