Signings, Suggestions & Rumours Discussion

I was about to respond and state there is no chance that kid will be in first grade next year.
No chance - although I hope he has a successful future with us.

I'm not a big fan of the SJ option - but realistically, I think the brainstrust sign him for two years and Brooks gets a 2 year extension - Wakes even might get a 2 year deal as well to play cup and fill in when Brooks plays origin.

And that's their plan.
Not impressed.

To me this is the best case scenario. I haven't heard a better option. Ben Hunt would be good as well but I don't think he is off contract. It's one of those if the coach leaves he may go but it's unlikely. Sam Walker would be great as well.

I'm not stating they'll work but it's the best of what is available.

Maybe a junior or an English player but this is much riskier than a player who has played NRL and you know what they can do in this league.

Shaun Johnson is a great player and he would be a huge asset IF we got the best version of him. It's a huge IF because being in NZ and his family situation are big factors for him. I would question whether he'd becoming to us just to collect a pay cheque. I suspect he has a tremendous amount of respect for Benji so he wouldn't dog it, but I have my concerns about if he'd be able to keep motivated, especially if he doesn't bring his family across.

Well said.

We need line breaks that don’t depend on halves being geniuses and unplayable in every single match of the season.

I’m starting to think we’d gain more from recruiting a couple of intelligent and attacking outside backs rather than just raiding the best of the rest for an older halfback.

I felt like If we had a young Chris Lawrence or a Taniela Tuiaki, or something happening with our outside backs against south’s tonight we would have scored some points.

We don't have any juniors to promote. None are ready guys for first grade in next couple of years!
I think Shaun Johnson would be the best possible halfback to recruit for next season, but I’d say it’s highly unlikely he will leave the Warriors for a second time.
Failing that it’s hard to see any clear cut plan that will resolve our halves and creative attacking issues for 2024.
Surely our coaching staff have identified that Brooks is at his best when being selfish and running the ball more often than not, no idea why that didn’t happen today.

It’s rumoured Pearce is asking in excess of 500k to come back and play for us, leave him in France if he expects that type of money at his age.
He can take his along price and stick it…. Not more than. $350k

If the club is smart, they would INSIST SJ brings his family over and they would set them up with housing etc...

I like the idea of Johnson. He still has plenty left in the tank, has a relationship with Benji and he definitely adds a touch of x factor, something we desperately need. I've been watching Laurie in Cup and he does have some ball playing skills. Maybe put those two together. I'm over Brooks, mind you he does defend a lot better than either Johnson or Laurie.

Excerpt from Danny Wielder's column today:

Knight shifts?

Bradman Best and Daniel Saifiti are two of the Knights’ biggest names, but rival clubs have heard whispers they could be available.
The Knights are not pushing them out the door, but the feeling is if someone came knocking, they’d listen to what they had to say.

Rival teams have heard Newcastle are open for business as they need to overhaul a roster heavily influenced by the mammoth salary of superstar Kalyn Ponga. Some say he may be on more than $1.5 million next year, which would make him the highest-paid player in the game. You have to wonder if he was an option in their roster reboot.

I would take a punt on Bradman if he can stay fit...

SJs last few seasons have been poor.

Does have X factor, we need to jag another out of the box recruit like Papi and Api.

He is not the long term answer.

Warriors are playing very well this year with him leading them around brilliantly
Warriors are playing well because as a club they are playing a simpler and more disciplined style.

This allows the halves to play better.

This is evidenced in our team also.
