Booing

You've actually articulated very well the reasons crowds were booing him... Loud mouth man who should have known his place?
Its not about knowing his place.
Calling Australia as whole racist, whilst towns and regional centres are being destroyed by indigenous people doesnt pass the pub test after a while.
Whilst there was certainly call for him to use his platform and recent personal history to help stamp out language that is used against sportspeople, he could have scratched a bit deeper and exposed/educated his audience as to the wider problem.
His efforts when it came to Indigenous issues in Australia was nothing more than trying to extinguish a bushfire with a bucket of water.

I still don't understand how that justifies a stadium full of booing every time he touched the ball, week in, week out?

Fact is, he was booed relentlessly for stating his opinions on the treatment of aboriginal people in this country. Any other explanation "he was a good player" or "he was a grub on the field" falls on its face because there are stacks of good players and stacks of grubs who weren't booed every time they touched the ball, every week.

Although not everyone who was booing was racist, or even aware of the context of the booing. Surely most can agree there was a racist element to it?

I'm not against booing. Objectively Leilua deserved everything he got on the weekend.

Talk about been TWO faced , not good booing a aboriginal but ok to boo islander who’s racist NOW

Thats not what he said. I often disagree with Tucker on a lot of things but what he says in a way is true. Goodes didn't deserve to be booed but he did go out his way to blame just about everyone and everything for the plight of the indigenous people in this country without ever putting forward any constructive views on how to improve the situation.

Why should Goodes provide views on how to improve the situation? He isn't a politician.

I personally think the argument people make that Goodes was boo'd because he was 'a flog' is hard to believe. I can't understand why players like Jared Waerea-Hargreaves isn't boo'd then, if not for the racial difference. Also, I only ever hear the word 'flog' for indigenous superstars which is also curious.

The most consistent (and enjoyable) booing I have ever encountered at a footy game was for Michael Crocker, for being a flog.

He was named Australian of the Year which gave him a pretty solid platform to put forward ideas how on he thought things could be improved. He certainly used that platform to voice his opinion on the history of Indigenous Australian neglect and abuse.

I come on here to escape talk like this because it's all over things such as Facebook/Twitter. Can we stop with this stuff please?
In all honesty this is why theses thing take hold because only the woke and ones who want to change history

this is why the woke and those who want to blame everything on something that happened 200 odd years ago , because YOU don’t want to challenge or engage, so only one side gets to have there say

You don't even know my views on the matter.

Good Post, - Should never ever be about Skin colour or nationality. It astounds be that this occurs.

I don't mind a Boo of players like Sharon Woods...

There is no way a huge collective of people are booing an individual due to his skin colour.
That is victim mentality bullshit and if you believe it to be true, you are part of the problem.
They are booing them because they are good players first and foremost, and additionally they don’t like them due to some on field incidents or attacks on their club.
Exactly, Poms must laugh at the ridiculous stipulations, listen to some of their Stadiumwide chants that are taken as part of their whole culture. Try and tell them what they can and can't say...

If that Islander was a woman basher like Luc then yeah, it it would be okay. I think you knew what he meant. Such a weak reply.

It all came to a head when a young girl called him a big ape or words to that effect....he called her out at the ground and it all went from there. Eddie Mcguire dropped some ridiculous comment on his radio show and it escalated further.
This was it she(8-12 yo girl) called him a monkey, he pointed it out and got booed out of the game afterwards.

There is a large enough racial element to almost all of the attacks on indigenous players and it is disingenuous to pretend otherwise.

At the match it may not be you, the person in the seats next to, in front or behind you, but someone nearby definitely is, likely in a group and they are peppered throughout the crowd. After the match some of them attack the individuals with unmistakably racist comments on social media if they are scared to say it at the ground.

So when kids that age break into houses and steal cars from hard working people , and all they get is a talking to by police , yet he wanted her named and shamed , what a trouble standard . I don’t condone what she done but when others do damage and they walk away Scott free

I don’t like commenting on situations like this but I couldn’t agree more. There was a post on Facebook last week where Latrell said he is proud of where he comes from & he’s proud he is Aboriginal & was absolutely hammered for it with claims he was being divisive & to stop playing the victim.

I thought comments like those were sickening & came from the same stereotypical white people over the age of 50. I’m proud i’m Lebanese & i’m proud of my culture & where I come from does that make me a bad person? would I be abused for it?

It is only stereotypical because it is factual. Being a 57yo myself and from an area that is overwhelmingly white, that also has an above average indigenous presence, I hear this sort of stuff often enough to know that it is fairly prevalent.

Racism is certainly not just a white thing, though the reason that they say such can only be that they expect me as seeming a peer to be receptive to it.

Five or six years ago I got invited to a coach at my sons footy club's Facebook page. I could not believe the amount of racist crap that he was espousing, whilst supposedly caring for a team with plenty of kids just like the ones he was vilifying.
