Joe Ofahengaue #240

Given we had enough cash for Mitch, there has to be more of a reason than front-loading to let offa go. If we're not signing someone decent, I would be very surprised.

IMO it’s not about this year. It’s about freeing up his $650k in 2024 and 2025, freeing up a top 30 roster spot and providing a clear path into the top 17 for a young player in the future, presumably Chris Fa’agutu.

We don’t need anything in return from Parra because the club is happy with the above.

I’m not saying it’s right or wrong but I believe that’s the club’s thought process. Sheens has always been very good at providing a clear pathway to bring junior talent through to first grade.
I bet we are paying part of his salary for the next two years so how the hell is that helping

First time in a long time they have a few Jr’s /established players showing some spark….SOME.

Might be just a case of forward thinking and locking up some talent or it could be Pascoe has to pay a fine for giving Robbie a free shirt. You never know with this organization.

I'm all for that, but Joe still has a lot to offer - he brought experience, leadership and passion to the club. As others have pointed out, he was one of the few shining lights in the absolute garbage we were served up last year. Last weekend also really seemed like a return to form for him.

Given how some players have walked out on the club, it was refreshing to have someone come on board who genuinely cared about the club and wanted to repay the faith. But even ignoring all of the sentimental stuff, he is an extremely valuable player and you would not say his wage was wasted.

I feel like this is going to be a huge loss, but will reserve judgement until we see what comes of this!

This guy tried.... even when he looked like he was causing problems, it was only because he was trying too hard.

If the Parra scum plane crashed on the way to an QLD game, I would pray he is the only survivor.

Was a solid human.

The pathways references are oversold. It's not unique to us most clubs have junior pathways that they have to manage but not at the expense of their FG side mid season.
I would hope Joe O would be seen as being more valuable to us, than freeing up a pathway for a possible. If not we deserve to remain camped at the bottom of the table.

don’t try to diminish the Kool Aid drinkers concerns that we need to let go mid tier players, to enable us to resign our juniors … whilst our competitors can somehow actually get stronger mid season ..

Smart teams now can both manage a teams roster in the present and the future … who would have thought?

I get we need to upgrade some good young guys like Pole , Bulla etc , but we had a shit tin full of cash for Mosses , if we got him who the hell were we going to move on , API ,FFS. This place is a shit storm with no idea

we all agree it’s distasteful … but they still did it?

What gives?

It just defies logic
A huge proportion of what this club does off field defies logic. Has for a long time.
Best wishes to Joe for his future, he put in for the club and has left it on good terms. It'd be a safe bet to assume he added a lot off the field as well, quality humble hardworking bloke.

Joe wanted to go and we wanted the cap space it’s not that hard to understand this. He was playing NSW Cup earlier and off the bench. Club wasn’t going to carry an internationals wage as a bench prop. Hopefully we can back it up with more strong signings like last year.
