Signings, Suggestions & Rumours Discussion

Do Newcastle really need him now they have Hastings? I think Brooks issue is either he or his manager has overvalued him, he is worth what we offered. Newcastle can sign him now why havnt they?

Your guess is as good as mine
- Matty Johns said the other day that's where he thinks he'll end up.
Coupled with Joey doubling down that Ponga will not be moved back to 6....

That leaves the 6 jumper open between Lachie Miller and Gamble...
I know who I'd be picking....
Although Gamble is playing better and creating more for the Knights than Hastings for mine...

Clubs have been able to speak to him from November last year. Don't think they were waiting out of courtesy for the Tigers.
Maybe he already signed month's ago before the start of the season and just rung Benji after he got injured to let him know

dont agree with this

we never made a play for hynes or reynolds because we had brooks

whilst we have him -- for another 2 or 3 years we wont look elsewhere

we are better off just cutting him and then waiting for someone to become disgruntled or some kid has a blinder at the start of the season next year in reserve grade and offer him money to come with a transfer fee to break tot he contrac tlike bulldogs did with the broncos kid...

we need to let brooks go.....

its done...

trust me -- if he's here we wont be looking

even though there is no one else around -- that is right now -- things always change -- and we'll become hungry to find someone --- and i would prefer to come last next year wihtout brooks and have the chacne to sign someone great -- then come 14th with brooks -- because we are never going to win a comp or make teh 8 with him

its done
Haven't we already been looking, (Moses and Johnston). Waiting around for two halves to be "disgruntled", (and want to join the Wests Tigers) is incredibly poor risk management. I also don't understand why we can't sign someone great while we have Brooks, I keep hearing we are well under the cap.

If that were the case he wouldn't have asked to join Newcastle last year.
Unless Sheens/Benji said something along the lines of give us '3 months to try to turn the joint around'.
Additionally, I still haven't seen anything other than media speculation about him wanting to leave, just confirmation of him not accepting their first offer.

Negotiating to get any decent quality recruits is very difficult for struggling clubs such as Wests Tigers.
Need to offer well above the market value to get the player interested and also offer their club something of value in return for them to consider releasing their contracted player.
It’s likely Scott Fulton is realising it’s much tougher than he anticipated.

On the other forum, an ITK poster heard a rumour we are signing a young half this week - a backup level half from another club & not Jack Cogger.

Not sure his interpretation of backup level half, whether that also includes under 19 types or just 2nd/3rd string halves playing mainly NSW Cup.

If rumour is true, me thinks it is either Ronald Volkman, Toby Sexton, Latu Fainu or Ethan Sanders.

I don’t think Rabbits or Sharks would risk releasing Hawkins & Trindall in case they are required through injury. Nor do I think Dragons would release Sullivan or Roosters with Smith until Hunt situation finalised.

Volkman - Warriors have Te Maire Martin & Dylan Walker who can cover halves as backups to SJ & Metcalf. They may be willing to save some cap space to offer SJ new deal. RV is from Sydney & managed by Fulton’s man Tartak.

Sexton - well down pecking order now, Titans may be out to create cap space for Hunt. Former Junior Kangaroo.

Fainu - also managed by Tartak, great relationship with Fulton but would take an amazing deal for Manly.

Sanders - SG Ball GF man of the match, regarded as the best game managing half in junior reps, could be a coincidence but he hasn’t played lower grades for Parra since the weekend before we released Joffa to Eels. Maybe an injury or was he part of the Joffa deal that has taken a few more weeks to go through???

Any of those you mentioned would be nice.
Zach Herring from the Dragons is another who has potential.

Fulton will struggle to sign anyone noteworthy this year or next…stories from players who exit the club (Joffa, Gildart, Matterson)…carry a lot of weight with managers and players and anyone approached to sign they want nothing to do with this joint….
