NRL INDEPENDENT CONSULTANT REVIEW ON WESTS TIGERS

The Mole: The icy Christmas party exchange that sums up Tigers 'mess'
This old news and has been ongoing for 20 years, and that BS still carries on.there needs to be a mass walk out at the next home game so that the idiots on the board know we are not happy.Or a mass pitch invasion at half time just to let the Board know we are unhappy. Writing complaining emails to the club does not effect them.

Pascoe has been unable to unite the factions, it seems he has only been the fuel on the fire. He’s had far too many fights for a person in his leadership position.
Sheens did a great job of keeping a united front, at least publicly, and managed to fashion a GF out of the mess. Those days are gone now, and as Sheens said when he was sacked a decade ago, ‘the club has decided to scrap the pathways programme.’
The board keep going from one disaster to the next disaster.
They’re about to give Benji the Head Coach role during this upcoming off season.
They’re going for the full set of spoons. ☹️

as someone said on one of the Tigers podcasts yesterday… Pascoe is going no where… you couldnt pry him out of that CEO chair with a crowbar. where else is he gunna get a job paying $400k a year and also the opportunity to hobnob amongst the NRL elite?

Sheens may well have done a great job "at least publicly" by "keeping a united front" but from my recollection he wanted the Magpies to be gone even though they own 90% of Our Club.
Can you imagine the rioting in the streets if that was attempted, and for obvious reasons.
We need a 2nd coming of Alexander the Great to cut the Gordian Knot followed by a new King Arthur to extract the Excalibur from the stone and take charge 🙂 in seeing Us out of the 💩 hole We are in.
If that doesn't happen, the only alternative imo is for one of.......nah, I'm not gonna tell Yuh as I feel the more reasonable ones out there already know the answer 🙁.

The problem isn't with Wests Ashfield or Balmain, imo the problem is with who they put on the board as their representatives, the ownership isn't an issue, the issue is the people put on the board know nothing about rugby league. Surely there are 4 people Wests Ashfield can put on the board who understand the game and what's required, likewise with Balmain, their two seats should have gone to Wayne Pierce and Ben Galea
Wayne Pearce cannot be on the WT Board, he is still an ARLC Commissioner (and has been since 2012).

There aren't any factions any more.

Wests Tigers are basically 100% Holman Barnes Group. Even though there is a token 10% Balmain element, HBG carries all votes at all levels.

For example, Rick Wayde is on both the Wests Magpies Football Club Board and he is their "representative" on the Wests Tigers Board; but Rick is also a HBG Director. So HBG (aka Wests Ashfield) can out-vote anyone at the Wests Magpies level and anyone at the Wests Tigers level (including if the independent members vote together). There is no Balmain Tigers board.

This means that Wests Ashfield make 100% of the decisions and this has been true for many years. Lee Hagipantelis may be a public mouthpiece, but he cannot override HBG in any decision, so Lee's opinion is actually moot if he happens to disagree with HBG.

The only possibility of fracturing is if there is disagreement from within HBG - I am not privy if such a thing has ever happened.

I think that was a problem Dorohy had with Sheens. Sheens wanted his NRL players to be in the one team. Dorahy was having a coronary because there were 6 players in the Balmain team and only 2 in the Magpies, Dorahy’s old team.
Personally, I don’t care what colour the jerseys are.
I just want one club, one jersey, one home ground and one single minded goal.
Our raison d’ etre should be to win fricken premierships.

But Dorahy has only been on Our board for a few months, whereas Sheens wanted only one team when he was with Us during his 1st go at coaching.

In the wake of the most embarrassing performance that I have witnessed by a Rugby League team in my 60 years of following the game surely a compulsive and independent Review must be organised by the NRL on the Wests Tigers. The NRL have a responsibility in maintaining the integrity of this great game by demanding answers on the bizarre and absurd performances by one of their licensed stakeholders. Not only Wests Tigers supporters are owed explanations but all Rugby League followers. With the prospects of growing the game nationally, the Wests Tigers licence to play in the NRL has to be up for serious discussion. From the Licence Holders in Wests Ashfield, to the CEO and Coaching staff etc. only a group of expert and independent Sports Consultants can identify the issues of this shambles of a club. The obvious initial answer is the club is void of a quality playing roster but apart from that Wests Tigers supporters are owed serious answers on where has it all gone wrong, who is responsible and who should take the fall. The consultants must be independent of Wests Ashfield and provide the NRL with answers on whether the club in its current situation deserves to operate in the competition or be relocated or have a NRL interim management team takeover until the problems are resolved. I am sure Wests Tigers supporters are echoing my thoughts ENOUGH is ENOUGH!
Couldn't put it better myself...I second this appraisal of the WT's, please someone do something, as this club is looking very bad at the moment from all angles.

The HB group and WA have little to do with the selection of players for recruitment.....they just select the head coach and in the main rubber stamp except until recently (with Scott Fulton) the head coaches decisions regarding recruitment and coaching staff selection with the odd veto.

As it should be.

If there is a gripe with their selections then it must be with their selection of head coach and staff.

Trouble is ever since the Brian Smith review whose recommendations they largely followed leading to the sacking of Potter of the defection of Payten they have selected in the main coaches who at the time seemed best available who largely were endorsed in this forum and by the media. Most people on here would have wanted JT and Madge gone and lets face it coaches usually only get 3 years without making the 8. I would guess if there was a poll on here last year at least 50% would have been happy with Sheens taking over. The only other guy was Flanagan.......a tough professional I would have went for leaving Sheens as Head of football.....but most on here didn't want him for the same reasons the board didn't consider him.

So that's the only other high profile recent alternative there was. Ciraldo they missed out on and they obviously lost nothing there with the benefit of hindsight. Des Hasler and Toovey weren't considered as the club and Sheens believe that pathways is crucial ....and they weren't suitable for that side of the role.

The Cleary and Gus fiasco was unfortunately nothing they could control.

I think it's more a need to have a Chairman & CEO who command respect through their corporate acumen, history of success in rugby league & ability in personal relationship building (players, media, government, corporate) to immediately positively impact the image of the club.

Good points

Agree Pascoe should've left/ been punted when Cleary, his man detected.

Lee is well liked generally and is highly regarded in the corporate scene.

But at the end of the day the Chairman and board are rather remote figures for most players at all clubs.

Unless your uncle Nick with deep pockets and reasonable golf skills.

That's incorrect, both Stapleton and Wayde are part of the club's 'football committee' who make decisions on all things footy - recruitment, coaches and staff etc.
Of course they're not picking the team or devising our game plans, but they are and have always been involved in all the big decisions in our embarrassing football department.

Disagree.

Virtually all proposals re recruits and who to let go are vetted by the head coach.

Including the cool attempts to keep JAC and Marty, the signings of Reynolds Packer, Gildart Tamou, Ballin, Mcqueen and others.

Given what was available at the time once the coaches approached the board with their recommendations they just went with it.

Name an instance when the board pushed for a recruit ahead of the coach?

Any complaints of the board must be in regards their selection of coaches.

I don't understand why so many people here and on WT Facebook groups don't know this.
A lot of people seem to think the problem is Wests v Balmain factions on the board.

The problem is that the club is run by the Barnes Holman Group (Wests Ashfield) and they have no idea how to turn Wests Tigers fortunes around.

Wests Ashfield needs to get out. Sell Wests Tigers to private equity. Couldn't be worse.
