Thoughts on last night game..

We seem to be playing with the intent of limiting the damage, rather than a hunger to win. I can imagine how demoralizing it is when some are trying until the last minute of the game and others are simply going through the motions. And the latter may be to players having reached their potential, or simply already starting to think about the off season. Probably reaching the point now where, as a club, our primary focus has to be the retention of players we NEED to keep.

We are also lacking organization, direction in attack, a decent kicking game - even the most basic of game plans. But this not just last night, it has been there for some time.

It was always a matter of time, even at 12 all, before the Sharks were going to go up and gear, and when they did, it was all too easy. Sure we had a lot of "talent" out, but even so, their presence on the field would probably not made too much of a difference.

Effort was there, in parts, but even good intent can only get you so far.

A week is a long time in rugby league - another cliché from Gus - but when it becomes Ground Hog day for us supporters, then it is starting to look eternal.

PS - memo CH9...honestly...If I hear one more comment about "players eyebrows" or "Would Les Davidson have worn pink shoes at training"...Time to get with the times, boys...Or give up the gig...

I don't think anyone should be expecting to win another game this season. Our squad is poor and we have longer term injuries to our two best players in Brooks and Api.

If we had Brooks and Api in the team we could jag some more wins.

I think the big issue is our forwards aren't dominating and we have a decent pack on paper. Klemmer has been good. Pole has been decent but needs to improve. Stef, Bateman and IP need to improve although Bateman has had some good games and IP has been working hard.

Seyfarth and Blore played well last night and outplayed a bunch of our bigger name forwards.

Cronulla were on top in the forwards all game.

Our backline needs improvements but To'a, Tupou and Bula are looking good. If Tupou can improve his ability to take the high ball and just improve a little with the ball in hand he can be real good. I think To'a and Bula are real good now.

Yep wakeham is a waste of space. But overall a better performance. You could tell some were playing for their future.

Toa can be a great centre. He has to stop throwing the low percentage passes. Blind Freddy could tell you he would send that one which Kennedy intercepted. There was no need to pass idiot!

Cronulla aren’t that impressive. The decision on the Talau no try swung the momentum of the game.

James was impressive.

I think everyone needs to remember how much of a difference Korosau makes.

TDS will be good. He was defending really well I thought for an 18 year old kid.

The score line didn’t truly reflect the game.

Final note - I’ve like Hynes until now. Seems like a smug knob and he’s on Tito’s fly kick list.

We have by far the worst halves in the game...as a result we have no attack, no repeat sets, no attacking pressure which results us being gassed in the second half due to defending for long periods. We will never win another game with Wakeham calling the shots

im finding it hard to blame the forwards for not maintaining their intensity they had until these past few games …

most of the backs are lacking in skill… drop simple kicks which lead to tries or repeat sets… limited pace, aggression and creativity in the backline… to be honest, has always been the case this year… even with Api in the team..

The Sharks were ordinary last night,. But did anyone think that they were ever in danger of losing the game?

Guys, we are critically short in key positions, as most of us predicted we would be this year.
Our spine is reserve grade standard. I’m not going to slip the boot into them as they are trying. Smith's pass to Talau is one of the very few try assists of its kind this year for us.
Bula still looks dangerous in attack but is one dimensional. He needs help with his ball playing.
You can’t blame these guys in isolation. The whole backline is not good enough.

Yes
Limiting thr damage

It was a state of flux.. Trying to go with them early... Keeping pace rather then trying to go ahead

Hate to even think this, but Sharks could have put another 30 on us if they weren’t taking it easy on us.

So frustrating because the lack of squad depth then effects every position, every on field decision and response.
Still good to see individual effort - and clear to see who cuts the mustard and who doesn't.

We were taking advantage of field position last night early on which was nice to see, however our goaline defence was very scatterbrained.
Overall though, our squad cannot compete with a first grade lineup at practically full strength.
This is how we play until Api and Brooks come back. Even with them back, we don’t improve a tremendous amount.
Be good to get them back before the Saint George game though as their impact could get us a win there.

We are desperate for some above bog average halves, Fainu, Trindall are essential. Our backs like Bula, Tupou and Toa are young and will make mistakes but definitely have talent. Our pack are lacking in confidence but are on par with most packs or just below but not bog average. We have nothing in the halves which makes us easy pickings, this I believe is the most critical area, if we get Fainu I would throw him in straight away, if you're good enough you are old enough.

Fainu will be a Band-Aid on a broken leg.
We need a halfback and some defensive centres. We need some wingers who can catch a highball. We need a fullback who can set a defensive line and can ball play.
It’ll take time to achieve this….

Already TDS is looking superior to Simpkin and he is younger with little experience.Simpkin needs to go if he is off contract at the end of this year.

He’s got one more year.

Exactly. Koroisau is a huge out for our go forward, but so is Brooks, who has always been our best halves player and also allowed Wakeham to play somewhat serviceable footy alongside him, which only a few are still too stubborn to admit.

That team on paper was not much more than a reserve grade side with a few forward leaders. I was surprised we scored 12 and got within 24. Closer really as we were dudded on some calls. Bula, Blore and Seyfarth played well but that’s what you get when you have a poor roster, guys will have a flash in the pan game now and then. It’s very concerning our coach and recruiting guy don’t see eye to eye because we don’t have halves, haven’t signed anyone for next year and we’re likely to get another spoon. Don’t be at all surprised if Api Koroisau is the first to say to his manager, I’m off this place.

Reality.
I don’t think Api will, nor Klemmer. They seem to revel in a challenge and are seen as leaders.
Bateman and Papali’i are my concern. They may feel like they were sold a lemon.
