Given the market would be surprised if we don’t up the offer if we really want the brothers.

Gus was only just telling anyone who would listen that they would be focusing on juniors and promoting from within. They have since signed Katauga, Sexton, Sullivan and have spoken to Taaffe and Tino. Can't begrudge him that but it's another example of Gus lying through his teeth.

Sad thing is I would take just about all the players from above at the Tigers at the moment. Tigers management are getting totally outmanoeuvred by Gus.

Those players are top shelf. Ok Sullivan/sexton are first graders... Taaffe and Tino are top shelf quality.

Ivan Cleary's big failure here was the "big 17" we signed so many players that were second tier and the stars we signed like Reynolds and Packer were second tier stars.

There is a marked difference in quality between the top players and the next level below.

Reality is we have zero bargaining power at the moment if we want quality = we pay overs for players we need & they know it.

We have to pay overs. We know this. Everyone at the club should know this. We're a laughing stock, no decent player will come near us. One of the very few things we have to offer is money. We have to outbid all the other clubs. It's the only option, other than capitulation

Didn't Scott or Brett Fulton receive a truckload of money to stay loyal to the ARL as well? The money on offer from both camps was crazy.

Used to go there nearly every Sat. night with a mate and go downstairs and play pool, about 40 years ago.

My uncle played a couple of years for them, used to pick him up with Nan, late, drunk and sometimes still in his footy gear. He’d come home shower and go up to Stallions across from Parra Station.
He reckons they were the toughest team around, so he joined them instead of being belted by them.
