Signings, Suggestions & Rumours Discussion

Have it on pretty good authority that Connor Tracey is desperately trying to get out of his deal with Cronulla, however Cronulla refuse to let him leave as the belief around the squad is that Siosifa Talakai is the one being shopped around quietly and are hoping for his form to improve so they don't need to chip in too much. Cronulla aren't impressed with the way he has played since signing his big $ contract late last year after playing origin when his stock was quite high and are hoping to offload him. Parramatta had a verbal agreement with Tracey but have now cooled there interest due to Cronulla's unwillingness to let him go.

Where the story gets interesting is that if Talakai becomes available we're one of the clubs that'll throw our hats in the ring as we actually contacted his management last year before he re-signed.

Personally, if Sharks chip in I'd happily take Talakai off them. Tracey's frustrations is growing by the day though as he's 27 and wants to be playing NRL consistently. Either player would improve our outside back depth quite significantly.
He doesn't have the speed that everyone craves here

I realise some grasp the concept of development coaching quicker than others, but hope it doesnt take Benji that long? I think Webster has been coaching half his life? Didnt he spend some time in ESL with his brother James, who is also a coach?
Whilst Benji was wining and dining. Living of his reputation. Life is not a 100 metre sprint. Webster did the dirty work.

I think Webster retired in his mid 20s and started coaching then. So he'd have 15 years experience as a coach. He's started at the bottom and worked his way up through the grades. How it should be done. See Fitzgibbon, Bellamy, Robinson, Ryles etc. Coaches who pay their dues as a genuine assistant coach, learning from others over many years before getting a crack at the top job.
It seems benji just jumped straight from player to media to head coach (which isn't surprising given the club's tendency to take shortcuts). And this is possibly why our attack looks so clueless. Even on the field Benji didn't know what he was doing half the time. Can he articulate game plans and strategy in an easy to understand manner and generate success? Awful hard to learn your trade competing at the elite level too.

Is anyone hearing Blake Taaffe to the Tigers? I am not a source of intel. Just heard it from a collegue who is a Rabbitohs supporter. He heard it down the grape vine from a reserve grade Rabbitoh. So not to the Dogs....
I heard from a very reliable source (current Souths first grader) that he met Benji a month or so ago and was likely to sign, but it has been quiet ever since... Since then he has met the Dogs and we have signed Latu Fainu so not sure what is going on.

Would say no to Talakai. Unless on a 2 year deal and heavily subsidised. He's slow, error prone and a poor defender. When he gets it right he looks amazing, but we already have rocks and diamonds players, we can't afford another one. if we could offload Kepaoa then getting him in on a 250-300k 2 year deal would be ok. Just a younger BJ leilua really
