Signings, Suggestions & Rumours Discussion

Blake Taaffe and Jameon Salmon to the dogs
It's getting even funnier at the Dogs and Gus's lies..
I would be pissed if I was a junior as all he craps on about is we are a family club and will build from within. Yet he just keeps signing external players like there's no tomorrow. Look at Young - He comes this year for 3 years and now told to look elsewhere and players seems to want to keep going there so maybe there is side deals happening.

When are 360 going to call this shit out for what it is.

I just don't see how we could afford to have Fainu, Galvin, Sullivan, Sezer and Douiehi taking up 5/30 top 30 spots next season. That's one experienced pro and 3 young inexperienced 5/8s, and an injured deadweight.

If Galvin was on a development contract next year then Sullivan signing would make perfect sense, having someone with 30 odd first grade games to help cover Fainu as he adjusts. If we can somehow do a Dogs and get Adam off our books for 2024 that would be great, but i can't see us doing it. It would harm our reputation with players, we don't stand by you when injured. Only successful clubs can get away with that.

Jayden Sullivan is a highly talented young player who can potentially knuckle down and become a very good NRL halve or could fall by the wayside and waste his talent.
He needs a coach he can connect with and a good attacking team to help him shine.
Like most young halves he needs a lot of hard work to get his kicking game in order and needs to work hard on his defence. His running game is already at a very good level.
The concern is his off the cuff style of play seems similar to what Latu Fainu brings to the table and as we all know, 2 off the cuff style halves does not work, they always need a dominant on the ball game managing halve alongside them.
The positive is they could push each other for our starting 5/8 position and both can be pretty decent number 14’s also.

Why can’t we just have a great head coach and a great GM

And both of those roles go to the best candidate through a rigorous hiring process rather than Lee and Justin having garlic bread at Grappa and deciding Tim sheens and benji and Robbie would be a great team

Btw my cousin owns Grappa so I told him if Lee and Justin are there again to kick them out before they hire anyone else
Probably because we are just not a great club.

I would give him the option , Sezer will add plenty direction so the 5/8 can play footy , be it Sullivan or the brothers Fainu
Not sure what sort of cash he is asking for, but I’m inclined to agree with you.

On the right money, 2 years, even if he plays the last 12 months in NSW Cup helps with depth.

We need 4-5 halves, 2 for first grade, 2 capable in Cup and 1 up and comer.

I think if we have

Sezer
Doueihi
Fainu
Sullivan

We have decent options. Given Doueihi is out for half the year, we’ll need a 5th option. Maybe that’s Wakeham.

Some good points you raise balmain boy.
Adam Doueihi will likely not be ready to play until about this time next season, so at best will only be available for our last 7-8 games.
With that in mind, surely there is some type of rule that will allow us to have a top 30 that does not include him, then be able to use him if required when he does become available.
In addition to this surely the writing is on the wall that we potentially offload Keparoa, Nofoaluma, Naden,Reilly, Simpkin and Ngatikaura from our current 2024 top 30 contracted players to allow us room to add some new blood.
Cutting Nofa loose without his consent would be a hard one as he’s been a great player for our club, but I maintain we need genuine speedsters such as Charlie Staines or maybe Xavier Savage on one wing and need a bigger more powerful winger such as Junior Tupou or maybe Edward Kosi on the other wing.

We need Sezar - mature and experienced.
Perfect organisational 7.

Then the 6 can be Latu or Sully.
I'd back Latu with Sullivan at 14.

Only downside is pushes TDS to cup which isn't the worst as gives him time to develope instead of being thrown in the deep end or used for 10 mins/game.

That's the most ideal outcome, imo.

I posted the following in response to someone on the Fainu brothers page late last night but I think this applies even more in light of Gus' response about Liam Knight joining Bulldogs last night. The dogs recruited him with 31 spaces left but didn't have to let anyone go. You know how? One of their players dropped out of the top 30 to a NSW cup contract for the rest of the year. If Doueihi accepted us front ending 550k this year and let us pay the rest of his 600k on a train and trial next year than the only difference would be that he isn't technically top 30. This does not mean the club does not stand by him(there is no way that anyone could possibly think that with the amount of injuries and opportunity he has had here), it means the club is being smart. He would know this.

Last nights post:
You know I wonder if the media talk of us moving on Doueihi next year is half right.
He is on 600k next year and if we just pay him out from this years cap we will have his spot free.

How much is a train and trial deal? if it's still around 50k a year then even front load 550k this year and have him drop out of top 30 to Will Smiths spot next year (Train and Trial can't play until round 10 anyway). He's got a lot of love for the club so dropping out of the top 30 for the year with no financial downside shouldn't really be a hard sell when he can't play majority of the season anyway.

If he comes back and kills it then you can start talking extensions, I doubt anyone will be desperate to sign him until they see how he goes when he comes back anyway.

I want to add we have to use 95% of the cap per NRL guidelines & there is only 13 days until top 30s are finalised for the year, if we fill our last spot with someone like Galvin, James or TDS then we will have to front load someone anyway.
