Signings, Suggestions & Rumours Discussion

We have all complained about dumb money being spent in the past. So far, what signings we have made, or offers made, have been at very sustainable, and appropriate levels to the return expected from the player.

Didn't overspend on Brooks, despite it being an easy thing to do. Fainu's secured- long term players with a ton of ability, but not on astronomical money.

No more $800k Mbye's. No more $800k Brooks'

We are better off, long term, signing players like Sezar etc, on budget money, and waiting for the real star players in the club to develop from the juniors.

I rate Sullivan. Would be very happy adding him on anything under $450k. He'd probably be the starting 6 until Fainu beats him to it, and the future 7 until something better comes along.

Who we get to play out wide now is important.

the reality is this club has a great bunch of juniors about to come in, signing connor watson isnt going to help us

awaiting terms in sezer deal he wants a player option for a second year, i think club will sign off on it , but it will be on reduced money
You mentioned Oates & Sami the other day.

Corey Oates? Are we actually in the running?

Sullivan is a massive upgrade on all of our current halves if he can stay fit. Was the same class as Stefano from memory. He was rated one of the best players coming through in his year. Lots of people in rugby league circles had huge wraps on him. For whatever reasons it hasn't worked out at the Dragons, but they are a basketcase club.

Has some errors in him but he can create points which is what we need. He is also a halfback who loves getting his hands on the ball, and he has speed. Would work well with Sheens and Benji. Him and Fainu could be the answer to our halves problem.

Ok the Dogs have gone out and got themselves a handful of basic level NRL players with experience and people are dismissing them. What they are doing is building really solid depth something that has killed us over the past few years. We have a top 17 player go down and we have nothing to replace them with, the cupboard are bare at present.

Maybe if the pathways delivers in a year or two things might change, but I would be more than happy if a couple of the Dogs signings had come our way
We used to have a squad like that. Lots of depth in experience but in the end lots of players of the same ability, no one who could stand out, win us matches etc

How far is Galvin away from NRL?He has only good wraps & he is in our top 30 next year. Has anybody seen him play first hand?
In the schoolboys comp today he scored 3 tries and got 2 assists as Westfield smashed Hills. All 40 of their points scored by players contacted to the Tigers too.
That said, he's still barely 80kgs despite being 195cms. He's a fair way from first grade, club doesn't trust him to play flegg currently

Does he have a kicking game ?

I guess our problem is match winners are a higher priority than depth players. We obviously need both, but our focus must be on players that are going to make a difference and we only have limited available roster spots

I reckon at least the 1st half of next season (if not more) we will have Galvin playing 6 in Flegg with Matai at 7.

To put him Top 30 next year must indicate the interest that was coming in from other clubs. If a Top 30 spot was required to keep him, fair enough and I am glad we did it, as he looks a special player.

Even more important to make our other spots count for 2024 now though.

For me, adding Sullivan and Sezer would be great choices. Sezer obviously brings some experience we crave. Sullivan hasn't yet shown what he is fully capable of in NRL. In Cup he has been dominant and far more than just a ball runner. Just taking some time and experience to transfer it to NRL.

However, we also need to offload a few more players for 2024 and further strenghen our outside backs as our backline quality/depth is clearly still below par overall (with a few exceptions).

Dogs sign another Panther .. Jaeman Salmon ..

Yep .. like Phil "Gus" Gould says .. "the only way to make a successful club, is to build within, look after your juniors" .. yep yep .. great formula .. keep doing that Gus .. !! Ya ferkin muppet .. !!
You can build from within whilst still requiring outside hire.
Someone has to mentor the kids as they come through.

Prince was never a flop - he had two broken legs at the Bonkos. Before that, he was their player of the year,

From my memory he didn't put it together at the Broncos. He was a superstar running 5/8 at the Cowboys and got a good contract from the Broncos but he never quite converted to the organising halfback at the Broncos that they wanted. The injuries compounded that. Hence we were able to sign him. I remember at the time when we signed him and Pat Richards there was similar forum negativity about us only being able to sign rejects from other clubs and there was very little expectation around Prince.

At least in those two instances, our negativity was misplaced.

The question is if the Dogs are building from the ground up why buy so many players on top of the many big name signings already made? The obvious answer is someone wants immediate success to legitimise their position or as a return for the investment already made. Either way, mediocre results could have significant ramifications at the Dogs

Match winners are hard to come by for any club let alone WTs. We have any number of potential youngsters who could be match winners. The outstanding result is that we have secured many if not all. Not only is the club positioned in the future to have every chance of success but we have denied the predatory clubs talent. The latter is a big win for WTs and validates the reforms to junior development and pathways initiatives.

The point I am making is not to be overly critical of what is happening in the club. Good people and a lot of hard work on the ground has occurred. The club is engaged with the Campbelltown and MacArthur regions which fills me with hope

I just don't see how we could afford to have Fainu, Galvin, Sullivan, Sezer and Douiehi taking up 5/30 top 30 spots next season. That's one experienced pro and 3 young inexperienced 5/8s, and an injured deadweight.

If Galvin was on a development contract next year then Sullivan signing would make perfect sense, having someone with 30 odd first grade games to help cover Fainu as he adjusts. If we can somehow do a Dogs and get Adam off our books for 2024 that would be great, but i can't see us doing it. It would harm our reputation with players, we don't stand by you when injured. Only successful clubs can get away with that.
