Signings, Suggestions & Rumours Discussion

A struggling team such as ours cannot afford to pass up a player like Teddy.
I’m a big advocate that a good young player will always be superior to a good old player, but similar to Api, Teddy is no standard ageing player, he would bring a massive amount of experience and confidence to our struggling club.
If he does come surely it will be to play fullback and what better way for a young talent such as Bula to fast track his learning than watching and learning from Teddy.
Bula could be exceptionally good for us in the centres or on the wing for a couple of years before taking over from Teddy as our fullback.
Totally agree 💯
1yr perfect but 2yrs max
Teddy working daily to fine tune our 21yr old rookie fullback would be invaluable for Bula's development. Great for all our junior backs coming through.. let's develop these kids to be 10yr Tiger First graders.. be patient and develop them properly.. imagine Bula with all his natural gifts having Tedesco's brain.. what a weapon we'd have..

I just want to win games now and in the short term,…. People talking about kids that are years away…how many fans are gunna be left by then?
I am with you on wanting wins now. Everyone on this forum wants success desperately. But it can’t be with him. I also think Heath Mason may come along alot quicker then some of our other lads coming through. He has been outstanding at both centre and fullback.

Gone backwards after acquiring 4 international forwards… Hastings never got a chance to play behind this years pack ..

Can guarantee if Brooks went to Newcastle and they were winning games the Brooks supporters would all be banging on about his contribution.
Team sport Hastings is playing his part well and Newcastle are doing well on the back of it.

Bula already has twice the footy smarts of Teddy!!

Teddy is a myth!

Watch the Roosters and NSW!!

They also want to win games - Teddy is a big reason they have been crap this year!!

He is busted!
It‘s been funny the last couple years that he still got the no 1 jersey for NSW over guys like Turbo, Latrell and even Gutho. This year it was laughable and made me think the fix was in that he got the jersey over Edwards. And for Fittler to say “He’ll be here for as long as I’m coach”, well that’s one man who doesn’t care about his job.

We went backwards with Hastings.

I was a fan of Hastings early in the season and I thought Hastings at 7 and Brooks and Doueihi fighting it out for 6 was the way to go. I think we'd be better this year with a Hastings/Brooks combo but I don't think we'd be much better.

I overrated Hastings. I think people stating that Hastings is a significant loss are overrating him.

I also think Hastings proves the organizing halfback role isn't a big factor in relation to winning games.

This is the whole point. It's not as simple as you get an organizing halfback and the world is good.

If Manly have a good season next year the same story will be stated but this time with Brooks there.

I dunno Earl the Broncos and Cowboys both went to another level - even with all their talent - once their coaches recruited organising half backs. Pongha is playing as good as he was when Pearce was there - on the back of an organising half back.

Our forwards

In more than 50% of the games we’ve lost we’ve won the stats

We just haven’t had a conductor to setup the final plays to score

That’s all we’ve missed.

Hastings would’ve done this.

That’s what everyone on here is missing.

We’ve won the stats!!!! Just haven’t converted to points.

And before everyone says hastings doesn’t have many assists etc… all he needs to do is setup the movements

Trying to convince people that we would’ve been near the top 8 with him this year is a waste of time … like trying to teach my 6yr old nephew algebra.

For all those that supported my comments I’m glad we have a majority of people on here who understand footy … for the rest of you ,

you’re an unfortunate product of Wests tigers mediocrity / luke brooks fandom / and just pure blind fan hope … I feel sorry for you lol
If we kept Hastings we wouldn’t have got the forward pack we have now because they don’t like each other. So we wouldn’t be winning the stats. We’d still be last with him.

well.. I recall wins against Top 4 Parra and Souths last year where Hastings was the best player on the field…

Pretty sure he was injured the back end of the season too when they were getting flogged each week,,,so they were dire without him last year

I hear you but I also see Munster and Hughes kill it. It's not a black and white issue.

I just want two quality halves. We've had a couple of averages halves in Brooks and Hastings (personally I think Brooks is better) and below average halves in Doueihi and Wakeham. Brooks and Doueihi are more runners and the others more organizers but I think the big issue is just getting a quality team on the park.

I like the idea of having some more options in the halves next year but mainly because we need to try different options because we are so bad.

I don't really give a stuff that we've lost Brooks and Hastings.

Hastings has his moments. I don't dislike him. It's not about playing one good game or a couple of good games. It's about consistency.

Doueihi for instance has had some games when I've thought he would be a star but he has those games one in every 20.

On Hastings my concern when we let him go was that he had a foot injury with us and once that was fixed his kicking game including goal kicking would improve considerably. That hasn't happened this year. His kicking game is average.

When it comes to Brooks my concern is that he is at the backend of his career and he may start finding some consistent form. He won't ever be great but as a secondary half I'm worried he is going to be really good.

Let's wait and see what happens.
