Signings, Suggestions & Rumours Discussion

Braith is quite obviously in the click at Wests Tigers at the moment and just stated he would have any of the players he manages working with Cooper Cronk who is rumoured to be on the outer at the Roosters.
If we are interested in Jonah Pezet, Lachlan Illias and retaining Alex Conti, it would be a smart move to pay what it takes to get Cooper Cronk on board working with our halves.
That aside it’s on our best interests to keep an influential media figure such as Braith in our pocket as it helps immensely if he is being positive about our club, rather than the negativity which is generally spoken.
Especially when he has a voice.

I’d easily offer Tom Dearden the 7 jersey and a 4 year deal. He’s unbelievably good who if it wasn’t for Munster would be the QLD 6. He could provide some well needed spark in attack for us and could definitely move to 7 long term his game is more tailored to a halfback anyways imo.

Cowboys apparently offering him 3 years for 2 million at around 660k a year. I’d easily offer him 900k a year over 4 years without hesitation.

As much as people might disagree - the 7 position for us is actually a very attractive option. Our forward pack with Api guiding them around, with Bula coming up and Fainu being looked at as the long term 6 partner. On top of that our nursery for juniors keep providing future talent and the opportunity to be coached by a player of Benji’s stature with the experience of Sheens being around too would be appealing to some. That’s excluding the extra 250k a year with an additional year in security. Don’t think it’s so far fetched.

Fainu and Dearden could definitely give us a halves pairing for the next decade that could cause serious problems.

You got me convinced.
Tommy can play the game.

Here is a fact for you. With out the statistics. Most teams struggle to score points against a set defence close to the line. A lot of the game is won in the middle of the field. Some of that is the halves taking Avantage but a lot of it is the forwards making it a contest and getting one up over the other pack.
We make meters, we get us in ‘good’ field position. I’ve heard it all.
We rarely make anything out of a mid field bust from our forward pack because quite simply it isn’t their style.
This is simply factually incorrect.

First photo below shows a fairly obvious trend that the further down the field you play the ball the more likely you are to score a point. In the NRL between 2016-2021 teams scored 0.3 points per play the ball inside the 10m line compared to 0.04 points per play the ball in midfield. Only when you get inside the 20m can you expect to score 0.1 or more points per play the ball and it exponentially increase from their. You are 700% more likely to produce a point from 10m out to 50m out. Teams do not score more from midfield breaks, fact.

2nd graph shows a heat map of play the balls resulting in tries form 2016-2021 where green is high and red is low. The map shows the significantly largest proportion of tries are scored in the 20m line and an even larger majority 10m out and usually middle of the field.

Field position is king. We have field position but we have below average backs unable to meet NRL standards in point production. Imo we have two decent prospects in Bula and Tupou and literally no one else is NRL standard in our backline. I genuinely don't think we have had a NRL standard half or centre in half a decade.

I really wish we lived in a world in which people would consider their positions before sprouting off opinions and calling them facts. This forum can be the Dunning-Kruger effect in full flight most of the time.

With your own money?

As good as our forwards are we are still missing a very important component of a top forward pack. That is a big very mobile athletic forward on the edge, or if you are really lucky one on both edges.

Souths, Manly, Cowboys, Titians, Dogs, Penrith, sharks all have a player who can cause havoc on a edge and compete for a high attacking kick.
We have Papali'i who is the best bomb catching backrower in the NRL. We just have peanut halves who couldn't pull the right reign if the wrong one was covered in shit.

I would pay Cooper Cronk whatever he wants for the simple fact he can teach young blokes to play the game...
And give them some schooling on winning the moments...
Fair chance we'd be behind a long list of clubs as an option for him though...
Sharks, Parra would be gunning for him (In Sydney alone)
Isn't he the roosters coaching half-back?

Massively agree. Tommy Dearden is awesome

Not sold on Cronk he's done nothing to fix the Roosters, granted Cheese has been a flop but Cronk should have been able to help.

Mate . You come across as massively obnoxious . You may not intend it but geez , it’s like a punch to the face .
I don’t know who you’re arguing with though ? You don’t need graphs to see where our issues are .
You’re stating the obvious as if you’ve just discovered the theory of relativity. Just chill mate .
