Signings, Suggestions & Rumours Discussion

Jesus couldn't coach a team without halves.
Give Benji a chance with competent halves before we judge him.

I'll tell you something about the Brooks bashers. They are hypocrites. Brooks is always to blame for everything.

My take is every player has to perform without reference to other players. Are they doing their jobs well ? Forget the team being crap. Has little Jimmy made some good runs today.

I've never stated Brooks performances aren't good enough because of little Jimmy and if I did I bet I was drunk.

just to add
- sullivan absolutely done , paperwork with a tigers logo seen on tartaks instagram

- blore extension for a year to 2025 with a club option for 26

- staines wants to stay, really likes benji, dolphins sniffing though

- heard nothing about moylan

- luke thompson little to chance now TPJ is done, will resign at the dogs for less
These are the basic, common sense moves the clubs needs to make, no bonuses for doing your job.

If true they will be releasing some as they can't keep them all.

What happened to the Xavier Willison rumours of him coming does anyone know
The club is still interested in Xavier Willison from the Donkeys .. we have had talks with he and his manager .. but the Donkeys are keen on keeping him .. HOWEVER .. now with the news of Haas signing a $1.2 per season .. that will have serious ramifications on trying keep some fringe players with that amount of money going to Payne Haas. Here's hoping that we are still keen on having a crack at getting Xavier to our club .. !! ;-)

Dunno mate, he's been fairly involved in the results this season.

I think when they sacked Maguire they thought we couldn't get any worse.

Well dead last 2 seasons in a row to me means it's not getting worse. I've given up on this season a long time ago.

Benji being involved in the results this season is 100% accurate.

I think this is the right decision though. The interesting point will be how long do we give Benji if we continue to be hopeless.

I liked Benji's coaching insider last week.

Stef has been inconsistent. Klemmer has been good but not great and he has fallen off at the backend of the year. IP has taken a bit of time to gain some form. I'm fine with him out there now.

Twal and Pole have been real good but they aren't big bash and barge type players.

We don't have any forwards like Nelson or Hass or Fifita. We just compete and compete well but we don't have guys that make busts and run over the top of people. Stef does but he isn't consistent.

The pack is good but they lack impact. Bateman can provide a bit of impact because he does some different things but he is also a small backrower and I think he needs the team to get on top prior to creating something.

I hope next year the coaching staff work out how to get more out of our pack.

I see Papali'i as similar to Matterson, in that the can play an edge, but are really middles.

We need something dynamic on one of our edges, be it a second rower or centre.

I'm starting to like IP but maybe he could go into the middle. They have to work our pack out. I think it's a coaching issue but I'm also concerned about Klemmer and Bateman as recruits on big dollars.

We need some spark right. Just some guys who can create by themselves or threaten. I think To'a and Tupou can but they are both inconsistent. Tupou is more inconsistent than To'a. We need more. I think Samuela Fainu might be what we need on an edge.

I thought it was next week and missed it, how else was the night?
I'm sorry you missed it Tony. Was pretty low-key but was a buzz to be in the place and around fans who care (too much maybe) about our club. Mostly spoke to the women's NRL players, who were really impressive young people. Went on a tour with Sarah Togatuki and Fonua Pole. Biggest revelation was how great it is for the women's NRL players to have access to these facilities and their own seperate areas (which doesn't happen at other clubs). Made a big difference to not have to pay for outside gym memberships etc while still juggling work and NRL. A lot of the players use the place just to find a calm place away from life. Might have been a better mood if our recent seasons weren't so grim. No coaches, which was disappointing but players (Talau, Seyfath, Junior Tupou) were friendly and spent ages taking photos. Good night.

I'm hoping this Sheens thing is another beat-up/over reaction story.

Or at least, Sheens stays on in some capacity. The pathways are the most important aspect right now. Needs to be implemented well.
In the press, they’re saying he’s got an ambassador role at the club, whatever that means,
wether he’ll stick around is anyone’s guess.

This is definitely a little bit of shock but when the shock element fades and reality kicks in this is a good move. The negative comments towards Sheens baffles me, the bloke legitimately took a farewell bullet for the club in order for us to best thrust Benji into the coaching role without the outside noise. Taking on the Wests Tigers job at the point Madge left for a rookie coach would've been potential career suicide, hence why Ciraldo knocked us back. This isn't due to us never having the ability to be successful, but more due to the early stages we were always destined to struggle and the negative media portrayal of the club is already dangerously high. The media pressure if we started Benji straight away (rookie unproven coach) and lost a few games early would've been the topic of the NRL as how unprofessional our club is to give Benji a chance and that can hurt or alter a lot of players confidence within to start to question themselves or the club... whether we think that's the right thing or not it's reality.

The plan was always for Sheens to coach for two years to take all the hits Benji would've got and then the goal for us to make positive strides in 2024 with Benji coming in 2025 with some momentum. Unfortunately 2023 was always a feel out year to who fits Benji's style of play, the expectation is to always make the 8 but 2023 most likely wasn't going to be the year. Sheens sole reason was to take all the hits in the media and from us fans and when the wheels slowly start moving get Benji in as the head coach.

It seems something has been brewing behind the scenes with the Board/Sheens and they probably think Benji is ready to take the step right now. It all went a little pear shaped when they sacked McDonnell and hired Fulton (personally think it was the right decision, yet wrongly executed) when you have three personalities like that it could disrupt the flow a little hence why they made the decision to stand him down or vice versa. For what it's worth, I've got some sources within the club and the feedback I'm getting is besides the results our club has been more united than ever. Players enjoy coming to training and the culture is strong they all want to play for each other. All players are determined to help make a change and get this club back into finals football..... all credit goes to Benji for that apparently he's been strong into turning the club culture into a "family culture" similar to Penrith. They all want to play for Benji and they all think Benji is going to be a fantastic coach... me included and I think Api agrees too.

I think we've actually been a well coached side this year - injuries to Brooks, Api and AD really derailed our season and the decision to get rid of Hastings wasn't the correct one but in fairness to the coaching staff it's tough to predict injuries to a sole position like that. When Brandon Wakeham and Will Smith are your starting halves on some occasions we're never going to win any NRL games. However, the club have now signed the most highly rated 6 prospect in Fainu, a very very flashy yet capable player in Sullivan and then combined that with the experience and exceptional kicking game in Seizer so to say they've addressed that issue is an understatement.

The last couple of weeks we've really stood strong against top 4 sides - give Benji the full preseason with our new halves under this pack and 2024 can be the year we crack the 8 I really do believe it. If you take notice both Sullivan/Faniu have something in common they're flashy and exciting playmakers that isn't by mistake. I think next year with Benji taking over and installing his play style we're gonna see a flashy yet effective Wests Tigers team in 2024 and I for one can't wait to see it. I just hope Sheens still has some involvement in the club because his experience and pedigree would be welcomed anywhere.

Thanks mate, turns out there's another one next week

Great post in the midst of the usual negativity by the usual suspects.

LOL you label people negative yet most of the decisions and appointments you have backed and championed over the past few years have directly lead to back to back spoons and a bleak future ahead.
Your opinions have been proven incorrect to such a massive degree, Im surprised you still bother to post. Suffice to say, you are the last person on here who is in any position to criticise the thoughts of others.
